good afternoon sara ahov and we are following breaking news from delaware county. they announced the arrest of dijon lee, charged with assaulting nine different women over three years. lee is facing charges of rape, homicide and robbery. and investigators say he would hide and wait for unassuming women that were walking alone and then attack. they are urging more possible victims to come forward. vernon odom has more in a live report coming up at 12:30. and following new information about a local man shot to death by police. sources tell "action news" that the man allegedly hit and dragged a police officer with a van in southwest philadelphia hours before he was killed in delaware last night. "action news" has team coverage of the investigation. jeanette reyes spoke to the suspect's family if philadelphia and we start with john rawlins and the latest from the shooting scene in newcastle. >> reporter: hi rick, details remain sketchy as far as official information coming out of here and police will only say that they are investigating this police involved shooting that turned into a fatal shooting. we don't know how it played out or why it play odd united states there are at least two seens in newcastle county. and the focus is in and around this bench. you see the fluorescent orange markings that they marked out the evidence they picked up here. but it appears that the real trouble began at that apartment complex shortly before 8:00 last night. >> five minutes later we heard gunshots. and then i got a phone call from my cousin's wife she lives over here. she was asking me what is going on. and said did you hear that? i said yes it sounds like our building. she said okay come over here, but we weren't allowed to go out. >> for more than nine hours police shut down coachman apartments in delaware county. residents ended up spending the night in their cars at a nearby gas station. earlier there was an incident involving leroy brown jr. and there was a second confrontation at a nearby park and shooting and brown was transported to the hospital where he later died. it's believed he was involved in a confrontation in philadelphia with police. when people responded to reports of a man with a gun trying to abduct a woman. and the police officer shot at the driver. brown's family believes he may have been hit and wounded in the incident in philadelphia. the how and why he ends up here in newcastle county. it's believe he was trying to get to a girlfriend's house here but the details remain sketchy at this point in time. john rawlins, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. lets switch live now to "action news" reporter jeanette reyes in southwest philadelphia where the chaos all started last night. >> reporter: well rick, the family is also asking a lot of questions this afternoon. they spoke exclusively to "action news" the mother saying it began with a nightmare from his son saying he was going to be killed after allegedly running over an officer. >> the worse situation i have ever been through in my life. this afternoon renee brown is trying to make sense of the chaos that began yesterday afternoon in front of her home and ended with her son shot to death in newcastle county. >> i received a phone call from my daughter that the police had stopped him and he tried to take off and he was shot. >> philadelphia police say they responded to a domestic dispute at 5:30 yesterday afternoon on woodby afternoon in southwest philadelphia. an officer arrived to fine a man now identified as 28-year-old leroy brown dragging a woman out of a rent ared minivan and things escalated from there. this neighbor witnessed the altercation. >> the gunshots went off and the girl was screaming and there were kids out there. >> police say that brown stepped on the gas and dragged the officer. >> my thoughts are he will probably end up dead. just like what happened. >> relatives say he dropped off two of the children in chester before driving to delaware and the father of three would be shot and killed later in newcastle county. his family says that brown had a warrant out for his arrest and that is likely when he fled. >> he was trying to get away from police, he was not the best kid on the block. devastated they are waiting for more details on what happened. >> i don't know. i don't know. >> in spite of the bad choices he made, he was a good hearted young man. >> reporter: and police are saying, or the family rather, are saying there were two kids present at the time brown was shot but police have not yet commented on that. we expect to get additional details this afternoon. janet reyes channel 6 "action
