see somewhere between nine and maybe 18 miles per hour winds later on this morning and through the afternoon. here are your temperatures. 37 degrees by 7 o'clock. by noon, 41. and we'll spend most of the afternoon in the 40's today. 43 is the high by 3 o'clock. of course yesterday we got to 64 so it's definitely a cooler afternoon ahead. bright and nice overall, though. 40 degrees by 5 o'clock and by 7 o'clock down 36. tomorrow we've got rain arriving early in the northern and western suburbs a bit of snow. i'll have details on all that of coming up. matt pelman war roads looking like on a wednesday. >> it's a pretty good start so far this morning david but you don't have to take my word for it. let's show nut traffic cameras. this is the schuylkill expressway in king of prussia. eastbound come the headlights away from 202 into gulph mills. it's dry, relatively quiet on the schuylkill this morning. if you're headed toward the schuylkill on the roosevelt boulevard extension this is the scene in east falls by the ridge avenue off-ramp. southbound come the headlights. there are several of them heading towards 76 but they're moving along okay come do you know from oxford circle at this point and crossing town on the vine expressway between the schuylkill and 95, traffic is moving well. overnight construction crews are long gone but they do return tonight at 11 o'clock. and during the midday today i expect construction crews to return here, the scene last week's water main break in queen village. this is columbus boulevard southbound side at queen street. still just one lane getting by this water main break so again this morning during the rush i would expect delays as you come off 95 onto columbus boulevard southbound. over in bellmawr, camden county, this is the scene along 42 at creek road. northbound zip along the headlights toward 295 and the walt whitman bridge. no delays here yet. the last couple afternoons we've seen big delays on the new jersey turnpike in salem county but this morning it's nice and quiet here by the delaware memorial bridge. no issues to report at this point on this wednesday morning. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. and we're going to breaking news now. two philadelphia firefighters hurt trying reach a man who was stuck in a burning home but within the past hour we've learned man did not survive. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live for us now, she's on that scene in fishtown with more. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tamala. and a 50-year-old man was found inside rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. i want to give you a look at what is left at the scene. the fire marshal is still out here. police are holding the scene right now. they still do not know a cause although preliminarily it appears that it is accidental. take a look at this video. what we do know so far the broke out around 3:30 an shackamaxon street in fishtown. fire crews found the couch on fire. the victim was fondnesses conscious on the floor, hawpe rushed to hahnemann hospital front of smoke inhalation. a short time later he was pronounced dead. both firefighters were found with cuts to the head. both are minor injuries. >> they made a difficult but aggressive interior attack all the way at the top floor of the building, that's where they found the victim. >> reporter: back out here live we're told that there were smoke detectors in the home when that fire went off. there are several other apartments in building. there were some evacuations. however, everybody is back inside. there wasn't damage to any of the structures on either side and firefighters say they were able to contain this fire in about a half hour. for now reporting live in fishtown, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." back to you. >> annie, thank you. developing this morning, philadelphia police are investigating two separate bar fights that sent several people to the hospital overnight. a man was shot in the stomach insides a bar on the 6200 block of woodland nav southwest philadelphia late last night. detectives say an argument over a pool game sparked the shooting. the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. police say the gunman took off in a dark colored sedan. several hours later philadelphia police say three men got into a fight inside the hookah lounge on the 7700 block of castor avenue in the city's rhawnhurst section. one man was stabbed. he was rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition. two other men suffered cuts and bruises to the face. they are both in stable condition and being held for questioning. >> it is 6:05. new on "action news" a driver is on the mend after being pulled from a lake in chester county. the action cam was on the 17 new garden township. police say a driver lost control around midnight on the unit block of clubhouse lane. the car went down a ravine and into somerset lake. firefighters pulled that driver out of the water. police say the driver suffered multiple injuries and was taken to christiana hospital in stable condition. and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. and a group of teens did their best to make trouble at northeast philadelphia for a mall for the second night in a row. chopper six was over the scene at philadelphia mills mall last night. police say about 200 teenagers arrived on septa buses with the intention of running through the mall and causing problems. the officers were ready for them, there to assist security after some similar incidents on monday night. and only about 30 teens were actually even able to make their way into the mall. >> went to the food court area and that's when they started running around, yelling and screaming and acting disorderly. >> police were able to break up the crowd. at least four teenagers were taken into custody and police say that it appears that both monday night and last night's incidents were organized on snapchat. they are similar to other incidents at malls across the country include something in illinois and connecticut. >> turning to business, a boost in consumer confidence could benefit your wallet. erin aide is in for maribel aber. good news erin. >> reporter: yes. the consumer confidence index reached another post recession high in december. consumer confidence board said tuesday that's consumer confidence index increased to 113-point seventy seven december up from 109.4 in november. now linda franco director of economic indicators said poet the post election surge and optimism for the economy was most pronounced among older consumers. the nasdaq set a record close and right now futures point a higher open. we've got a full lineup of economic reports out this week including the latest on pending home sales due out at 10:00 a.m. today. starbucks is featuring a tuxedo beverage collection start on monday. the new collection will feature three chocolate filled drinks including the tuxedo mocha tuxedo hot chocolate and tuxedo mocha frappuccino. it gets its name from a combination of black and white mocha sauces that mimic a classic black and white tuxedo. starbucks fans better act fast. the collection will only be available through january 1st. that's all from the nasdaq market site in new york city. i'm erin ade back to you guys. >> tam of sunshine coming up over the shore later this morning as there is nary a cloud in sight by the coast. a little bit of cloud cover farther up north and west of philadelphia but even those clouds will probably break up to a degree today. 37 degrees currently in philadelphia. the temperature has slipped a bit in the last half hour or so. 37 degrees by -- or current in wilmington, 39 in trenton and allentown and reading and lancaster. 30 in millville and 39 in cape may. satellite shows you those clouds off to the north but nothing down in south jersey and delaware and even the i-95 corridor looks sun glass appropriate as we go a little bit later into the morning. up in the lehigh valley today we'll call for mostly sunny skies. this is one of the areas where you might be doing battle with clouds for parts of the day but it looks like we're still going to be fairly bright. a high of 41 though a lot cooler than yesterday. at the shore we're going for a cool high of 44 degrees, mostly sunny and chilly and in philadelphia after hitting 64 yesterday only 43 today. so mostly sunny, cooler, still not a bad day, though and winds running northwest around nine to 18 miles per hour today. 32 is the overnight low with more clouds gathering and before dawn tomorrow we expect a rain and snowy mix. the snow will be to the north of philadelphia. rain mainly in the city. 32 the overnight low but that will be picking up pretty quickly as we go past the sunrise hour and that rain does look like it will be rain and not a problem otherwise for us in philadelphia and near i-95. 45 degrees is tomorrow afternoon's high periods of rain through maybe early to midafternoon. up in the poconos it will be snow and in some of our immediate northern and western suburbs there's the possibility of some brief snow before a clover to rain. by 7 o'clock -- by the way this gets starter around 5 o'clock or 6 o'clock in the morning. by 7 o'clock you have the chance of some slushy roads developing in the lehigh valley northern bucks and montgomery counties and maybe the northern part of berks county and then the whole thing changes over to rain probably well before 10 or 11 o'clock and the rain starts to filter out after about two or 3 o'clock with just a couple of sprinkles and showers after that. what are we expecting on the ground is again a slushy coating to an inch possible in these northern areas. be careful of perhaps some slippery spots on roads. the poconos one to three but everybody else no accumulation and basically all rain. your seven day, today's high, 43 lots of sunshine chilly. tomorrow 45 with some of that rain through the first part of the day and maybe a little bit of mixing and some light snow up in the northern suburbs. and then friday blustery, 40 degrees the high and there could be another pop-up snow shower or snow squall. that's one of those quick bursts of snow that could make roads a little bit slippery in a hurry. then for new year's eve clouds mixing with just a little bit of sun, probably more clouds also a the day goes on, a high of 41. at night we can't rule out a brief rain or snow shower. i don't think it has much of an impact on your festivities and then on new year's day mostly cloudy and a little bit milder. we'll start out in the probably mid 30's by sunrise but 48 in the afternoon and all things considered not a bad delays so far this morning. especially here on 95 and inn what used to be our work zone at cottman avenue in case you were off last week maybe you didn't hear we have four lanes now opened in he both directions here along 95 at cottman and so since they opened that fourth lane each way, we haven't seen delays during the rush hours along 95 at cottman had been has been great news. the bad news is we still have the work zone farther south at girard so we are still seeing some delays on 95. just not back at cottman. in that same neck of the woods near girard along shackamaxon street in fishtown still watch out for some restrictions because of the overnight fire but you can squeeze by. in queen village on columbus boulevard just one lane gets by headed southbound because of that water main break from last week. we're hearing that could be out there for the rest of this week. warwick township bucks county construction continues along school road. this started last week as well. sugar bottom road or almshouse road some alternates around that. that's bridge repairs going on indefinitely. bridge rehab is also happening in bethel township delco closing garnett mine road through late january. feather bed lane or foulk road some alternates around that. in the state of delaware so far so good this morning just watch out the ramps from jackson and seconds streets to 95 southbound are closed for construction through this evening. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. a suspect is now in custody in connection with the death and disappearance of an actress and yoga instructor in washington, d.c. take a look at some new video from a vigil that was held for tricia m mccauley in the district last night. police found her body inside her car which seems to have been stolen in the events that led up to her murder. mccauley had been strangled and suffered blunt force trauma. police arrested a man but they don't believe that he and mccauley actually knew each other so they are still working out a motive for the apparent murder. >> ♪ >> president-elect donald trump continues to name more leaders to his administration. thomas bossert has been tapped assistant to the president for homeland security and counter terrorism. bossert is currently the head of a risk management consulting firm. he served under president george w. bush. trump's plan to dissolve his charitable foundation has hit a wall. new york's attorney general says trump's foundation is still under investigation and cannot and the dissolved. mr. trump's team says it wants to erase any potential conflicts of interest before he takes office. >> a scare sent people running from the lobby of trump tower. several bystanders who got caught up in the incident recorded as they ran but the all clear was given at 5 o'clock when bomb squad officers examined what sparked the scare an unattended backpack. they determined it contained children's toys, nothing dangerous. president-elect trump lives and works in the building special bond in general but the specific tie between two florida officers, well, that's really something special. back in august, two miami dade officers underwent surgery. officer alec suffers from a genetic condition and needed a new kidney. his fellow officer kye-gwan castillo offered him hers. >> after surgery i felt great and just little by little i just got to feel better and better. >> 33 kept asking me rush you want to do this i'm like can we get this done already. stop. >> the two officers did not know each other before the surgery but after the transplant they say they'll be connected forever. >> warms the heart, doesn't it. the flyers face the blues in saint louis tonight after a long holiday break and the temple owls bid for their record 11th win and top 25 finish went out the window in annapolis yesterday. wake forest took the lead before halftime in the military bowl. the owls showed their stuff in the second half but fell short in their comeback bid. temple loses wreckage was spotted inside the great smoky mountains national parent the victims two adults and a child were from florida. the cessna 182 aircraft was en route to the gatlinburg pigeon forge airport on monday when it disappeared. the victims will be recovered from that crash site later today. >> a south carolina police officer charged with murder for killing a black driver running from a traffic stop will be back in court. michael slager a native of mount laurel new jersey stood trial on the murder charge in state court but a jury couldn't reach a verdict. state prosecutors vowed to try him again but no trial date has been set. slager who is white is also charged in federal court with violating walter scott's civil rights. that trial is set to start in may. >> it is 6:27 and breaking now a man has been killed by a fire in fishtown. our annie mccormick is lie on that scene. >> and there's been major break if the case of a missing mother in delaware county. a trail that went cold nearly hurt. >> police piecing together details of a deadly shooting. they found the victim on a front porch but say law gunned down in his basement bedroom. >> new this morning a family is devastated. they say their child was kicked out of the scouts even though he lives as a boy because he was born a girl. good morning, it is 6:30 on this wednesday december 28. matt o'donnell is off. nydia han is yesterday from start to finish. let's start you with a look from sat life. you can see that the clouds are mainly to the north of philadelphia. some of them trying to inch closer to the city. we do expect most of us to start out sunny and probably end up with a fair a sunshine, obviously a little cloudier up north this morning. 37 degrees in philadelphia. i've switched to the slightly heavier coat because we are down into the 30's now. 37 in wilmington, 39 in trenton, 39 in allentown and reading. and just 30 on the nose in millville. and almost 40 in cape may. winds starting to pick up to the north and west of the city. 15 now in reading. and we'll probably all see those winds get up into the teens at times especially after sunrise. here are the numbers today. 64 yesterday. not so hot today. 37 degrees by 7 o'clock. we'll spend the afternoon in the 40's. 41 by noon, a high of 43 by 3:00 and 40 by 5 o'clock. by 7 o'clock back down to 36 degrees. again, dry all the way today. tomorrow we've got a rain arriving early in the morning before dawn and for some of us it will be a little snow. details on that coming up with future tracker6 and of course the rest of the seven day. matt. >> so the weather is cooperating for this morning's commute. so, too, is the traffic. i'm not sure what's in the water this morning but things are moving well david here along the vine street expressway by broad street and 15th street. some local volume on the local vine but overall looking at a good picture near center city. but in queen village of course repairs continue on last week's water main break along columbus boulevard. still just one southbound lane getting by this morning. so i would expect delays there. and there was an overnight fire location in fishtown along shackamaxon street so crews are still out there but you can squeeze by. nearby on 95 a little bit of sluggishness now on the southbound side from allegheny into girard. this is 95 in delco. taillights heading northbound toward highland avenue and the commodore barry bridge. you're zipping along between the state line and the blue route. similar scene along 422 near valley forge. eastbound go the taillights. no delays so far this morning heading in toward king of prussia. taking off of two, this is 42 in bellmawr camden county and you're seeing some volume heading northbound toward 295 but overall not a bad ride whatsoever on this wednesday morning. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. this is breaking right now. two philadelphia firefighters have been hurt battling a blaze in fishtown and we've just learned the nan they found inside who they were trying to save has died. "action news" reporter annie mccormick has arrived on that scene and she's got the very latest. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tamala. right now as you can see behind me the scene is pretty much clear. the fire marshal is still out here trying to determine a cause. a 50-year-old man was found inside. hawpe rushed the was rushed to l and it was there he was pronounced dead. the fire broke out around 3:30 on the 1200 block of shackamaxon street in fishtown. the fire crews arrived and found a couch on fire next to where the victim was found unconscious on the third floor. he was rushed to hahnemann hospital with smoke inhalation in serious condition and later pronounced dead. well, two philadelphia firefighters were injured suffering cuts to the head. both, though, we're told only suffered minor injuries. again, no word on a cause. >> unfortunately, tragedy bee fell the fishtown section and we did have a fatality. two fire department members were transported for minor injuries and fortunately but it didn't work for us in this occurrence, there were working smoke alarms in the building. >> reporter: and back out here live those working smoke detectors in the building, smoke alarms did help other people that lived in this same building. it looks like several apartments are within that structure and at one point there was evacuations but everybody has been let inside and the houses on either side are not affected. again the fire marshal is still working on a cause. for now reporting live in fishtown, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." tam and nydia, back to you. >> thanks for the update, annie. a highrise fire forced near 200 people to evacuate their apartments in philadelphia's overbrook section. it started on the 11th floor of the liberty tower apartments at north 63rd street and lebanon avenue about 5:30 last night. residents say they thought this was a false alarm because the alarm sounds off regularly. >> i heard the cracklings in the wall. black smoke come rushing out. i told the maintenance man don't go in there 'cause people were banging on doors saying you got to get out the 11th floor is bunk. the water was gushing down in my apartment. >> reporter: no one was hurt. the salvation army is helping residents on the floors who were not able to return home. >> 6:35 and developing this morning a determined killer shot a man a number of times in the victim's basement bedroom. the murder happened just after 10:00 last night in the home on the 2300 block of west atlantic street. investigators say that there is evidence of a struggle at the scene. the 37-year-old man was hit multiple times in his upper body. he was rushed to temple university hospital where he died. police are now interviewing witnesses. >> the search for a missing mother presumed dead will that continue in delaware county today. police spent hours digging on the property that once belonged to josé rodriguez. he is the estranged husband of melissa rodriguez who vanished april 2013. in recent days cadaver dogs picked up positive hits in the basement of the collingdale home but so far the search has come up short. >> ♪ >> new here on "action news," a north jersey mother says her eight-year-old child was kicked out of the boy scouts because he's transgender. joe maldonado was called jodi in kindergarten and first grade but changed his name to joe in second and third grades. joe's mother christie says she signed him up for the cub scouts in secaucus making it clear the child was transgender but she says she got a call from the boy scouts head council saying that joe could no longer be part of the organization. >> we were doing science experiments and, you know, cool stuff like that. >> angry and i felt bad for my son because he was having a good time. >> a statement from the boy scouts of america says in part that the child does not meet the eligibility requirements. >> tributes continue to pour in for the late hollywood legend and america's beloved princess carrie fisher. fisher died in a los angeles hospital yesterday where she had been since suffering a heart attack on an airplane on friday. she was the daughter of hollywood royalty. debbie reynolds and philadelphia native eddie fisher but she made a name for herself as princess leia in the "star wars" saga and writing several best selling books about her struggles with alcohol drugs and mental illness. we spoke whip stunned fans who just watched the latest "star wars" film "rogue 1". >> she went through a lot. she overcame addiction and survived having bipolar disorder and continued to be a mental health advocate and a women's rights advocate. that's amazing she was able to do that and the stay positive despite all of the hardship she went through. absolutely she was a role model. >> very well said. in a statement co-star harrison ford said fisher lived her life bravely. carrie fisher was just 60 years old. "good morning america" will have continuing coverage coming up right after "action news" at 7:00 a.m. she impacted our society and our culture in so many ways. >> and fascinating person so many sides to her script doctor a lot of "star wars" scripts they gave them to her to make them better. >> too bad she passed. you remember weather today is looking okay. it's a little bit cooler than yesterday. bright start and most of those clouds that you see will probably have a tendency to evaporate once that sun gets working on them. 37 degrees is your current temperature. dewpoint down at 27 so a nice spread between the surface temperature and the dewpoint, meaning that air is pretty drive. winds out of the west at 8 miles per hour, probably picking up a little bit once there sun gets up over the horizon. we could look at winds in the teens today. not exactly knocking the hat off your head but a little bit breezy. there's that cloud cover to the north a little bit thicker but again we are hoping that most of that breaks up and that we wind up with at least mostly sunny skies today. 36 by 8:00 a.m. yesterday we got up to 64. today we're going to spend the majority of the morning in the 30's, 39 degrees by 10 o'clock and most of the afternoon in the 40's with a high of just 43 at 3 o'clock. back into the upper 30's by 6 o'clock. so a cooler day but dry. and just a little bit breezy. high temperatures not much of a range from north to south. in allentown we'll get to about 41. 43 in cape may and everybody else more or less in the same ballpark. tomorrow's high is 45 but way front coming at us we will get periods of rain for the first half to two-thirds of the day. up in the poconos it will be snow and if we take a look at future tracker6 there could be a little brief snow southbound between allegheny and girard. some speeds in the 30's there as you can see. and of course just off 95 in queen village still have the water main break along columbus boulevard so just one southbound lane gets by. we're also getting word of a serious crash in collingdale delco this morning. it's along chester pike. that's route 13 and macdade boulevard there by the salvation army and the walgreens. emergency crews are responding so you might want to steer clear that of intersection. chester pike and macdade boulevard. in upper dublin getting word of some debris on the road along susquehanna road at crystal valley drive near meetinghouse park. watch out for that. but no issues along 611, the pa turnpike or the northeast extension. but yesterday they started installing a couple new water mains in delco so wallingford avenue now closing during the mid days for the next few weeks. woodward and possum hollow roads gets i was around in. in upper chichester blue ball of a closed. chichester avenue or namaans creek road alternates around that through the end of february. nydia. >> matt thank you. a bethlehem man who once had a relationship with his high school teacher is now accused of killing her and the child they had together. police in new york city say 23-year-old isaac duran infante confessed to the murders. 32-year-old felicia barahona and four-year-old son miguel were found dead in their apartment on monday. infante reportedly told officers he was upset officer the way barahona was raising their orange philadelphia police still trying to find out who shot and killed a man driving through mount airy yesterday afternoon. police responded to a call about an overturned suv on the 500 block of west walnut lane. they found a 33-year-old man dead inside. he was shot in the head. so far no word on the victim's identity or whether he was the intendd today. police are looking for a woman in the passenger in suv who ran from the scene. >> an atlanta musician says his dog saved his life from a fire that destroyed his home. ed shroud was asleep when his poodle gracie licked his face and barked. that woke him up. shroud was rushed to the hospital with burns
