philadelphia. still in the 30's in allentown reading wilmington and millville. so, again, bundle up. understand aren't all that strong, though. we're in the single digits across the region and in a lot of spots we're reporting calm winds and that means those places with the numbers probably are calm at times as well. your 12-hour forecast well here's what it looks like. 41 degrees on the jogging path at 41 degrees at 7 o'clock i should say under the sun and by 10 o'clock, 51, still ah pretty bright there and by noon 59 degrees. not bad at midday and your high today is going to be 63 at 3 o'clock with perhaps a few of those high clouds filtering in. and then 56 degrees by 6 o'clock with patchy clouds and we can't rule out a little sprinkle in a couple of neighborhoods this evening but it's not really going to amount to much and most of you probably don't see. that we are continuing this nice stretch of weather into the first half of the weekend and then a big change comes, karen. details coming up from accuweather. >> all right, dave. as we go to head out to see the traffic hope you're off to a good start for the day. no weather related problems on the roads. we're clear and dry but you can see the traffic getting busier. it's that time of the morning starting to see the first jams. this one is on i-95 and southbound traffic jammed approaching cottman and again approaching girard and you see a couple cars off in the median there. on the vine street expressway look how heavy we got so quickly here. this is westbound traffic really jamming approaching the schuylkill expressway. eastbound is moving pretty nicely right now on the vine and we have a couple of accidents coming in as well. we're hearing this one is involving a pedestrian in quakertown right on 309 southbound at toll gate road. so watch for emergency workers coming to the scene right now. that's a new accident. also an accident reported in blue bell on dekalb pike here at blue bell spring drive. we're hearing they pushed that off to the side and not really affecting traffic. this accident is causing some issues but traffic squeezing by and that's on 541 at woodlane road here in burlington county. matt and tam. >> all right, thank you, karen. developing this morning two armed robbers were holding up a bucks county pizza shop but they were in for an unpleasant surprise of their own. a customer opened fire on the robbers killing one of them. "action news reporter katherine scott is live at the middletown township police department. she's got the full story. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. that's right, police say the two people who were shot were the same two people who tried to rob a pizza place in levittown. one of those alleged robbers died at the scene. the other was taken to the hospital in serious condition. let's go to video from last night. this happened around 10:00 p.m. at the shopping center in levittown. it's on veteran highway near trenton road. police say two men each armed with handguns walked into the pizza shop planning to rob it. they told the three people inside to get on the ground. that was a customer and two employees. police say the men started pistol whipping the customer and that's when the tables turned. police say the customer then pulled out a handgun he was carrying and shot both of the robbers. one was shot in the chest and died at the scene. the other was shot in the shoulder and neck. hehe was taken to saint mary's medical center in serious condition and was going to be transported to jefferson for further treatment. one of the employees ran to a nearby bar for help and police were called. the two employees and the customer escaped without any serious injuries. >> well, we're going to see if the gun is registered to him or who it's registered to and also if he had a valid permit to carry and we're still working to determine that as of right now. >> reporter: so the investigation continues this morning. police are also checking for nearby surveillance cameras to see if there's any footage that can help in this investigation. we're live in langhorne, coastal storm coastal low, channel6 "action news." >> thank you, katherine. also developing this morning, a two alarm blaze in aston delaware county injured a firefighter and displaced nine people. flames broke out at the townhomes on bernie highway at 11:00 last night. fire smoke and water damaged four of them. a female firefighter emerged out of one home and collapsed. she is in stable condition. "action news" reporter gray hall will have a live report from the scene of the blaze coming up in the next half hour. >> officials at rowan university say another female student has been sexually assaulted. it's the second incidents within a month on the glassboro new jersey campus. the university says over the weekend a female students met a male student in a dorm elevator went to his room and fell asleep. center city's a she is awakened she realized she was being sexually assaulted. last week a female student says she woke up in the same room as she was sexually assaulted. >> it's a sad reality that it happens. the campus does its best to try and like avoid and help people not go through it. but you can't control everybody's actions. >> the university has not said if either incident is connected. anyone with information about either case is asked to contact campus police. >> new this morning, police in delaware county are trying to identify the man caught on camera slashing tires. haverford township police provided the video of the man who walks way distinct drive. the time stamp on the video is in the early morning hours of wednesday of last week. contact haverford township police if you recognizes this ts man. >> the philadelphia school year could start earlier under proposed plan. next year's school year is prepared to start on september 5th and finish june 14th if the plan is adopted but then the following year in 2018 the school year would begin before labor day. that's on august 27th and ends on june 4th, 20's 19. the plan was proposed last night. the school reform commission is scheduled to vote on the plan in december. >> those archaic pennsylvania laws that prevent from you walk out of a beer distributor with anything but a full case of beer are about to change. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square with our market watch report. hi, maribel. >> reporter: hi, matt. that's right, pennsylvania beer distributors will be able to sell beer in any quantity in 60 days. so the change is the result of new legislation signed by governor tom wolf. the law will allow bars to serve alcohol starting at 9:00 a.m. on sundays. sporting venues will be able to sell mixed drinks under the legislation. stocks gained ground yesterday and the dow finished high for a seventh straight sex. futures reporting to a lower open united airlines has a new low fare called basic economy. what you get is a ticket cheer than standard economy. what you don't get is access to the overhead bins. you're allowed one personal item like a shoulder or laptop bag. everything else has to be checked. passengers are assigned a seat on the day of the flight and board last. matt and tam going to be interesting if this camps on with other airlines and how they're going to oversee that overhead rule. >> maybe they'll get let you ride on the luggage rack on top of these things. [laughter] >> how about a ride up there, right. >> all right. >> hi, david. >> i was just telling karen -- i'll just take a seconds. we're off to a cool start across the region and we are looking at sunshine building pretty quickly up over the horizon. and then it stays on the sunny side throughout the day and gets milder later this afternoon. so, there's your day forecast as we take a look at radar we are looking at a lack of precipitation thank you very much, dear, across the region and taking a look outside, let's see if we get any hint of that early sunshine on sky6 just yet. probably is a little bit dark yet and it is but we are looking at skies brightening shortly and know weather related issues flying in and out of philadelphia either by the way. 43 is your current temperature and winds are out of the west-southwest at 9 miles per hour. so, the winds not much of a factor. satellite shows you the lack of cloud cover. there is cloud cover out to the west. there will come in later today -- that will come in later today. see that sprinkle, you might get a sprinkle later across the region but it's not going do amount to much. big story is the bright sunshine for most of the day and once again mild temperatures. 42 degrees by 8 o'clock, 51 by 10 o'clock, 59 degrees by noon and then 63 is going to be your high at 3 o'clock. well above average. the average high starting to inch down towards the low 50's this time of year so that's a pretty good number and your 5 o'clock temperature is 58 degrees. high temperatures across the region, everybody getting up into the low to mid 60's. pretty similar numbers from allentown through philadelphia down to cape may. and over toward the airport in atlantic city. future tracker6 again showing you how clouds do get a little bit more pronounced as we go later into the afternoon and evening. and every now and then a little sprinkle popping up. it's so sparse and small that future tracker really isn't even picking it up. i'm just kind of throwing that out there and as you look at the month of november so far these red days are all the days where we wound up above average with temperatures and overall running 2 degrees above average. some of you have commented to me on social media about how boy it does seem like it's been mild lately. well it has and it looks like that above average trend continues today, tomorrow, friday and saturday before the next big change. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today's high is 63. lots of sun, mild. still very nice on thursday with a high of 62. and then friday takes the cake. sunny and milder all the way up to 67 degrees for a high and saturday sun giving way to clouds but we'll probably still wind up at about 66 degrees. saturday night there could be a shower. the half marathon on saturday looks good. the full marathon on sunday, though, a much different day. blustery and colder on sunday with a high of 49 degrees. there is a shower possible and it's going to be a cold rain. wind chills in that that blustery wind on sunday, we jumped the gun a little bit there but wind chills are going to make it feel like it's in the 30's and then monday and tuesday we stay in the 40's. and tomorrow night at 11 o'clock, thank you for the sound effects, matt, the winter weather outlook from accuweather and 6abc o-all right annual snapshot of what we think the winter is going to look like. we'll talk about whether or not it's going to be above or below average temps and of course we'll take a crack at when the snow season might be this year. >> okay. >> tomorrow night at 11:00. >> way better than the farmer's almanac. >> right. is aston delaware county near bernie highway and linda. overnight a fire breaking out and four townhouses. it seems to have been quelled now but it was burn sewing hot that a female firefighter collapsed at the scene. had to be taken away by stretcher. nine people displaced. our gray hall is at the scene. you'll get a live report from him coming up at 6:30. >> let's take a look at traffic on this wednesday morning with karen rogers. hey, karen. >> good morning, everybody. we're live and in person checking out the schuylkill expressway right now. not looking too bad here at girard. that's your eastbound traffic as you head towards center city. we do have some building volume at conshohocken and again montgomery to girard but no major delay yet on the schuylkill. as we look at the big picture we are seeing a jam on i-95. there you're only traveling 19 miles an hour here near cottman and about 41 miles an hour near girard so slowing down on i-95 but no major problems on the blue route, schuylkill or i-95. you're in pretty good shape. sixers play tonight at 7:00. you'll see congestion there in south philadelphia and on the vine you could see your normal slowing, 37 miles an hour westbound as you head towards the schuylkill expressway. we are hearing that there is an accident here in quakertown on 309 southbound at toll gate road. seeing speeds of about 9 miles an hour with crews on the scene. we just talked about this fire location in aston much watch for bernie highway being blocked at linda lane. if you're in this area stick to valley brook road as your boardwalk in ac. lots of sunshine headed your way today matt. >> thanks karen. smoke from the wildfires burning across the south is taking a toll on people's health. pharmacies in tennessee report prescriptions for inhalers have gone up in the last few days and doctors say they have seen an increase in patients with respiratory problems. we have learned more information overnight about the victim of a deadly shooting at oklahoma city's will rogers world airport. 52-year-old michael winchester worked for southwest airlines. his son, james, plays for the kansas chiefs. winchester himself was a punter on the university of oklahoma's 1985 national championship team. police don't know a motive for the murder but they do believe it was a premeditated act. the suspect was found dead in an airport parking garage with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot ground. >> newly released video showing the heroic wes rescue of a man. >> oh my god he's trapped. >> investigators say two weeks ago a driver of a hyundai was trying to pass traffic but instead they ended up slamming head on into a volkswagen on the other side of the road. the two people in the hyundai were killed. the driver of the vw was alive but as you can see there trapped. an officer used his own cruiser to push the vw away and then firefighters managed to pull the man inside to safety. >> it's unfortunate it was that we lost the two lives in the other vehicle. the fact that we were able to save the man from the other vehicle is tremendous and definitely goes back to what we're here to do. >> the man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. new on "action news" a man who is known for ride argue rounds houston dressed as a comic book hero helped to fight some real life crime. the army veteran lovers the "deadpool" character so much he legally had his name changed. earlier this month his motorcycle was stolen. he followed the gps tracker on the bike to a property 45 minutes away and then called police. when officers got to the scene they found his bike and parts of other motorcycles at the home. houston police ended up arresting three men for this theft. what i appreciate is that he went to dry so no big problem as you're heading out right now so things looking good except for your jam on i-95 and now we've got this fire location we've been talking about and this is bern flee -- intern are excited about a new injectable drug aimed at lowering cholesterol. they say it shows great promise battling heart disease. a team at the cleveland clinic treated more than 900 patients with high cholesterol for 18 months. participants were either told to take a statin or a combination of a statin and the injectable drug. researchers say the combination methods reversed that group's heart disease by dramatically cutting their bad cholesterol levels and reducing the artery blocking plaque that leads to heart attacks. >> the sixers host the washington wizards tonight at one and nine the developing story. katherine. >> reporter: that's right, matt and tam, police say a customer was being pistol whipped during a robbery in levittown when he turned the tables on those robbers. we are bus driver. it happened in that colts neck monmouth county yesterday afternoon. the prosecutor's office says a students and an aide were also on the bus. they along with the driver of the suv were hurt but are expected to survive. the fbi is offering a reward to help catch the criminals who carried out a series of pharmacy robberies throughout the delaware valley. the first one was in claymont delaware in july. the seconds happened in that springfield township delaware county. in the final holdup was in upper darby. investigators are looking for at least three suspects. >> new jersey may become the first state in the country to ban declawing katz. legislation would make it an animal cruelty violation. if passed those convicted could face six months in jail and a thousand dollars fine. little bit chilly to start out on the terrace and elsewhere across the region. satellite shows you that we have a lack of significant cloud cover though and plenty of sunshine getting trod pop up over the horizon pretty soon. additional clouds out to the west will have a tendency to stroll in later in the afternoon and evening but no great shakes there. 43 degrees in philadelphia but still in the 30's in allentown and reading and wilmington and millville. some of these spots below freezing. 42 in trenton. so, get that coat ready. winds aren't all that bad though rolling out of the west at about 9 miles per hour in philadelphia and calm in a lot of other spots. and as we go through the day it's going to be a nice afternoon. 41 degrees for that morning workout, 51 by 10 o'clock and by noon, 59, still a lot of sun and then in the afternoon we get high clouds but a nice high of 63 degrees around 3 o'clock. we'll be back to 56 with a few patchy clouds by 6 o'clock and there is the chance of a little sprinkle later this evening in a couple of neighborhoods. most of you don't see it. those that do it's no big deal. as we step inside the seven day will show you a string of very time of the morning jamming up on i-95. let's check the roads right now. this is your southbound traffic. pretty heavy as we look live at allegheny jammed from academy to cottman now and from the betsy ross bridge to girard and already a 28 minute ride. good size delay already between woods hey and the vine on i-95 southbound. we're seeing some jams right here on the vine street expressway westbound as you head towards the schuylkill expressway. eastbound not too bad but certainly some building volume. little bit of slowing eastbound as well. we have some new information on this accident in quakertown bucks county. police did confirm it's an accident involving a pedestrian on 309 southbound at toll gate road. they have crews on the scene but they're already in the process of clearing it out and traffic is at least getting by here on 309 southbound. also in blue bell we had an accident that cleared on dekalb pike but a new one in plymouth meet on walton road at on that polo road. watch for that. mount laurel road burlington county was the scene of so many headaches yesterday. you might remember the turnpike was shut down we had two problems on the turnpike, a problem on 73. in the same area now we've got a new accident 73 northbound at crawford place so watch for that one matt and tam. >> will do. thank you, karen. let's go to our developing story here. a gun toting pizza customer takes down two armed men trying to rob the joint in bucks county leaving one of them dead. the other wounded. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at middletown township police with the details. katherine. >> reporter: matt, that's right police headquarters say the two men -- police say the the two men were shot by a customer while they tried to rob the pizza place. one of the would be robbers died at the scene the other shot and taken to the hospital in serious condition. let's go to video from last night. this happened around 10:00 p.m. in levittown in the shopping center on veteran highway near trenton road. middletown township police say two men walked into the pizza shop planning to rob it. both were armed with handguns. a customer and two employees were inside and they were told to get on the ground at which point the men started pistol whipping the customer. that's when the customer pulled out a handgun and shot both of the robbers. one was shot in the chest and died at the scene. the other shot in the shoulder and neck taken to saint mary's medical center in serious condition and was going to be transported to jefferson. the employees and customer were not seriously injured. >> we're very thankful that there were no and other injuries but like i said it is tragic. i mean, you don't wants to see anything like this happen. you don't want to see anyone die but at the same time, you know, it was a robbery and it appears that the customer was defending himself. >> reporter: and back here live at middletown township police where the investigation continues, police are now checking to see if the customer had a valid permit to carry. we're also checking to see if there was any surveillance footage in the area that can help in this investigation. live in langhorne katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> katherine thank you. an 80-year-old woman died in a house fire in the brewerytown sections of philadelphia. this broke out on the 1400 block of north hollywood street last night. firefighters found the victim dead on a living room floor. they haven't been able to determine yet the cause of this blaze. and developing overnight, flames roared so hot at a set of townhomes that a female firefighter ended up collapsing at the scene. she had to be taken away on a stretcher. now let's go over to chopper6. this is a look at the scene right now in aston delaware county and you can see some of those townhomes that had been in the middle are absolutely is charred. some of them almost burned down to the ground and you have to imagine significant damage is that so well on the other townhomes on either side. you can see those walls burned out and even a couple course down some of the roofs have been vented. "action news" reporter gray hall has details. he's live on some scene. terrible morning for the people who own those homes, gray. >> reporter: you're absolutely right, tam. not a way you want to end the night way fire. just a dangerous situation for the families involved and also those firefighters battling this fire. take a look behind me. you can see hours later this is still an active scene. restoration crews have now boarded up oregon to board up this home. also, peco crews out here on the scene. a gas meter actually caught fire. they were here of course to secure that line. now let's take you to that video that we shot for you not too long ago. this was a two alarm fire. it damaged four townhomes and injured one firefighter. we're told that she came out of this home, she collapsed. good news in this one. that firefighter will be okay. everyone thankful for that. as our cameras were rolling she was alert as medics transported her to the hospital. again, this fire started at about 11:00 last flight near aston delaware county on bernie highway and linda avenue -- or linda lane inside the reserve development just as a precaution, the entire row of homes had to be evacuated. we know the roof of one of the homes collapsed. two townhomes had extensive fire damage. another two had smoke and water damage. >> the house damaged most at twires -- had two residents in there and they were the ones that called 911. they were upstairs and smelled smoke i guess they heard their smoke detectors came down and went out and called 911 to summon us here. the house next to them had fire through the roof at that point. >> reporter: all right, folks so back out live an intense and dangerous situation here everyone thank full there were no major injuries. the only injury again was to that one firefighter. she had an injury to her leg. the red cross this morning helping at least three families that were displaced by this fire. of course now the work begins as to struck a 69-year-old man who was watching it inside a philadelphia home. it happened on the 26 lunn block of north stanley street in the strawberry mansion section yesterday evening. police say harry haskins was visiting a friend when at least six shots were fired into the front window. the homeowner says he was upstairs shaving. haskins was shot once in the right shoulder by a bullet that new through the tv screen and is expected to be okay. police believe a younger man who lives in the house was the intended target but he was not home at the time. >> the sutter shut down of a career training center has students scrambling to transfer their credits and figure out their loans. the star career academy blames it on a declining student population. locations across pennsylvania, new center city and it does look like it's going to be a bright good looking day even though we're starting out cool a-pretty nice finish. right now though 43 degrees in philadelphia and in places like allentown and reading you're not far above the freezing mark so everybody needs a pretty decent coat this morning and you can probably start shedding layers later this afternoon. satellite showing you a lack of any significant cloud cover so shades are important behind the wheel as we get now past sunrise and there is some cloud cover out to the west that will filter in a little bit as the afternoon goes on but overall still looking at mostly sunny skies. lots of sun in the lehigh valley today. pleasant with a high of 62. down the shore a fair amount of sunshine with perhaps some afternoon clouds rolling in a bit, 64 degrees is the high there. and in philadelphia mostly sunny, a few afternoon high clouds but pleasant overall, a good looking day with a high of 63. well above average. the average high starting to dip into the lower half of the 50's. winds today west at seven to 14 miles per hour not really all that breezy. and then future tracker six showing that you while the clouds do start to reappear a little bit in the evening hours, and there is a chance of a sprinkle oar a shower we're mainly dry tonight and i think really most of you if you see any rain at all it's just a few drops on the windshield that's it. won't last long either. partly cloudy overnight a sprinkle around and then 46 the overnight low. not too bad. winds out of the northwest fairly light at five to 10 miles per hour. it's been a mild month so far. this is the november calendar and every orange day or red day i guess you see here are days where we spent above average. the blue below average and then there was one where we were right on average. overall that puts us about 2 degrees above average for the month and we're going to probably raise that average tomorrow, thursday, volume begins to build? good morning. >> no accidents on the schuylkill so that's good news but you can still see it's jammed nonetheless. this is the schuylkill expressway at city avenue and you can see eastbound traffic right here head towards center city. really heavy in both directions. eastbound from the blue route to the curve and again from city avenue to girard and westbound kind of jammed in the usual spots from the boulevard to gladwyne so eastbound and westbound slowing up on the schuylkill and you can see that reflected in the speeds. about 11 miles an hour especially on the schuylkill westbound near the boulevard. i-95 southbound you can see 14 miles an hour at cottman. 26 at girard. so, slowing there on i-95. no accidents on i-95. blue route still moving nicely in the 50's so if you're headed there that's some good news. we had some accidents in the suburbs. some of them clearing up here so this one in montgomeryville just cleared on horsham road near 309 but we have an accident in plymouth meeting and that's out here on walton road at apollo road n mount laurel burlington county i just told you about an accident on 73 northbound at crawford place but it just cleared. traffic in mount laurel moving better right now. let's go to the waze app right now. we found someone reporting an accident scene and that's on the boulevard near harbison avenue so watch for that slow speeds on the boulevard right now as you head southbound in the inner drive so you might want to stick to the outer drive. reports avenue minor accident. let's look at these temperatures. it's colder out there this morning than yesterday morning. just 34 in martins creek, 37 in coatesville. how about oxford barely above freezing, 33. 43 in center city. it's been even colder in the suburbs in new jersey. we dipped down to 30 in glassboro, in vineland, new jersey. 36 in hammonton. 38 degrees in dover with lots of sunshine today, matt and tam. >> all right, thanks karen. a communities in utah reeling after a teenaged boy slashed five other boys in a locker room. the parents of the accused assailants somewhere written an apology which police posted online. the letter says none of the victims had done anything to hurt their son. the sophomore is accused of stabbing five classmates in the locker room yesterday and then stabbing himself. everyone is expected to survive though two of the boys went to the hospital in critical or serious condition. the letter goes on to say the attacks were not racially or ethnically motivated. teachers say the suspect is a straight a students who had been homeschooled until this year. this video just coming into "action news." president obama is in athens greece where he toured the famed acropolis citadel. the entire historic site was closed to the public for the president's visit. he's expected to deliver a speech to the greeks later today as he winds up the first leg of his final foreign policy tour of his
