delaware when fierce flames destroy four homes. >> and the action cam is live on the developing story this morning. at least one person was killed and dozens of people were injured in a major pileup on the new jersey turnpike. you're looking at some of the southbound lanes there in cranbury middlesex county. this happened last night during that mix of rain, snow flurries and below freezing temperatures and part of that road still shut down right now. the the pileup involved more than 15 vehicles including four tractor-trailers, and we know at least one car ended up on fire. >> let's get you whether and traffic with david and karen. good morning. >> all right, guys, we're off to a cold start across the region. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows us that to the south of philadelphia and parts of delaware and south jersey there is still some lingering sleet and freezing rain highlighted in blue. cape may county beginning to clear a little bit but more is on the way across the bay and farther north in southeastern pennsylvania and elsewhere in new jersey and where it isn't currently looking at anything, we did have some earlier freezing rain and sleet and you are going to look at a fresh coating of sleet across much of the region especially these counties highlighted in this winter weather advisory. the national weather service extended this advisory until 8 o'clock and i would expect icy conditions especially on sidewalks side streets and overpasses maybe some ramps as well. right up until 8 o'clock maybe even a little beyond that 'cause it's going to take a little while for that number to get up above freezing today. for the morning rush expect delays. you might have to take some time to scrape ice off your car windshield. driveways and sidewalks are slick but we can't rule out icy patches on roads as well. 28 degrees in philadelphia. everybody is in the 20's from north to south across the region and as we head into school to get that test going or whatever else you got to do at school or work look for to it improve as the day goes on. by noon we're up to 37 and there's your high at 3 o'clock, 40 degrees. karen, are you seeing any problems on the roads this morning? >> on the main roads, dave we're seeing them move pretty nicely. not seeing anyone slip and slide here on i-95 at allegheny. i think the key is not to get overly confident and to take it slowly and expect you'll see some icy spots especially on the secondary roads. the worst of it might be getting to your car at this point on the driveways. be careful of slick spots. moving okay on 95. we had that big story on the new jersey turnpike. the action cam on the scene. this accident happened around 9 o'clock last night and it's still an issue this morning. we still see some vehicles out there on the scene. this is the new jersey turnpike southbound in cranbury township. southbound near the molly pitcher service area with that multi vehicle pileup, that fatal accident scene and this is that area where the outer lanes and the inner lanes are split so you've got the inner lanes at this point the car lanes are opened. the areas where the trucks go, the outer lanes, that is still blocked between exit nine and exit eight on the new jersey turnpike. let's take a look at some of the other areas around the region. 295 southbound past 73, we still have this accident where this vehicle went off the roadway. it's blocking the right lane and it's blocking the shoulder right here on 295. but overall you see that green traffic flow, traffic still moving okay, just slow it down matt and tam and expect some of those icy spots. >> very good advice karen. let's take a look at some new weather video from berks county. in addition to ice concerns northern and western suburbs had a coating of snow overnight. crews were ready for this round of precipitation. they were sending those salt trucks out treating those already slushy roads and it could be worse. take a look at this. yet another winter storm has left new england just buried in snow. this is a look at manchester, new hampshire. a snow emergency is in effect there until this morning. highway crews say they've actually run out of room to push the snow. the steady run of winter blasts has already sucked up more than 70 percent of new hampshire's winter maintenance budget. >> in other news now and breaking a commercial flight from philadelphia was forced to make an emergency landing in houston late last night. the pilot somehow brought the plane down with broken landing gear. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is lie in the satellite center with the video and details reporter: incredible feat by that pilot and incredibly frightening moments for the 52 passengers and four crew members aboard that american airlines flight operated by u.s. airways. it originate in there philadelphia and was heading to houston texas. and it was expected to be about a 42 -- three hour 42 minute flight but the last 45 seconds likely the longest and most terrifying and this is exclusive video of that plane as it's making the emergency landing. and you can see it actually lands on its belly and the sparks flying from the bottom that of plane. the pilot had no choice because around 11 o'clock when he started descending, he realized that the landing gear was not dough employing. -- deploying. again you can see those sparks right there. once the plane landed passengers had to exit the aircraft using aircraft slides. one of the passengers on the plane said the pilot did circle the control tower a few times and then made a frightening announcement that passengers should prepare for an emergency landing. >> he announced he was going make an emergency landing and that everybody would have to kind of brace on impact. he touched down. it was smooth, you know. we came to a stop. there were some sparks and things flying when i looked out the window and smoke and you could smell kind of burning rubber but we slid to a stop. as soon as we stopped, the fire department was out there. they sprayed everything with foam. we got out of the plane and jumped off the wing. >> reporter: now here is a shot of the plane nose down just after landing. one of the passengers on board had to be taken to a local hospital but the injuries to that passenger are apparently not serious according to an airline spokesperson. american airlines release add statement immediately after the emergency landing stating in part "american's primary concern at this time is for our passengers and crew. we're in contact with authorities and cooperating with response efforts "obviously now american airlines is cooperating with ntsb which is investigating the incident. again one person injured on that flight but those injuries are not believed to be serious. we'll keep you updated throughout the morning on this investigation but if you think about the composure that the pilot and the crew members had to keep to ground these passengers safely, it's just incredible and a lot of lifesaving moves on their part. for now i'm erin o'hearn live in the sat center. back to you guys. >> clearly they did
