(cheryl) adorned with hundreds of colorful lights and mouth watering candy-scaped treats, it takes candyality over three months to handcraft and prepare for tonight's procession. (alan) and now arriving on the magnificent mile, southwest airlines captain nick caulfield who's a member of the airline's adopt-a-pilot program. every spring, pilots across the united states and chicago volunteer their time to teach fifth graders math, science, history, and geography through real world examples as they're helping their future take off. (cheryl) joining them tonight, special guest and grammy-award winning artist michelle branch, singing "silent night." ♪ - ♪ silent night ♪ holy night ♪ all is calm ♪ all is bright ♪ 'round yon virgin mother and child ♪ ♪ holy infant so tender and mild ♪ ♪ sleep in heavenly peace [cheers and applause] (alan) michelle branch, thank you, and now here comes a crowd favorite. it's the bmo harris bank mascot float. bmo's a proud sponsor, a loyal fan of many community events and sports teams, and again this year, bmo harris mascot hubert invited some of his special friends to help him celebrate the lights festival parade. (cheryl) look, everybody, there's benny the bull and tommy hawk. bango from the milwaukee bucks is here too along with southpaw from the chicago white sox, and the rockford icehogs' hammy. they are all excited to help hubert kick off the holiday season. (alan) looks like they're really jamming in back. all right, now, water tower place is coming up next after-- all our sports fans are having a good time this evening. water tower place is chicago's most iconic shopping destination for fashion and for holiday giving, presenting now this magical snowflake float. it highlights their free atrium music and light shows throughout the holidays, and joining them we've got chicago cubs hall of famer ryne sandberg and his wife margaret and their family, and also the folks from harry caray's 7th inning stretch restaurant and the chicago sports museum. (cheryl) the restaurant and museum are located on the seventh floor of water tower place and are chicago's ultimate sports, entertainment, and dining destination. the petoskey high school steel drum band under the direction of barry bennett was founded in 1996, and the group has grown to become one of the largest steel bands in the country with over 40 members in the premier group and over 120 students. (alan) they are having a good time. they've performed all over the united states, including in hawaii and walt disney world, mardi gras down in new orleans, as well as the caribbean islands, and this band also performs all over the state of michigan. they have more than 40 concerts every year. the group has recorded six cds, and in fact, they just completed a christmas cd as well. on steel drums, that would be fun to hear. [upbeat music] ♪ now northwestern medicine's float, dedicated to the patients they're honored to serve, and riding are some of the patients, actually, and their families, whose lives have been impacted by the world-class care that they've received. (cheryl) anchored right here in downtown chicago, northwestern medicine is a growing, nationally recognized health system that provides care at 4 hospitals and more than 60 locations in communities throughout chicago and the north and west suburbs. together with northwestern university's feinberg school of medicine, they are pushing boundaries in research labs in a relentless search for tomorrow's cures.
