the pileup involves more than 15 vehicles. that includes four tractor-trailers and at least one car was on fire. >> karen is tracking delays continued delays there and david has accuweather. good morning. >> all right, on the big board we have storm tracker 6 live double scan this morning guys, showing us that most of the region is done with the active precipitation. there might be a little freezing drizzle here or there but the main bodies of precip are south of wilmington. looks like they're just to the south of 295 in south jersey and then another batch farther south just below dover delaware and some of this has been creeping over into cape may county. beneath these, this is freezing rain and sleet. you do have some new ice forming so be careful down there but even up in these areas where the precipitation is over, there has been some new rounds of overnight sleeting and we do have some new rounds of ice. the winter weather advisory has been extended until 8 o'clock across much of the region. i had a twitter follower just ask me what these white lines are that sort of cut through the middle of bucks county, chester county and montgomery counties. sometimes with the new reporting process the weather service has the ability to delineate between areas north of that line and south of that line for various advisories so we kind of leave that line in there but right now the end tear are the of those counties are covered by this. snow sleet and ice winding down. overnight we did have more and there are some my icy patches around there so expect delays this morning mort morning rush. cars might be lightly played. you'll have to scrape the windshield in a lot of cases. driveways and sidewalks are definitely slick and there could be some problems on some roads, too. side streets in my area before dawn have been pretty icy. that's part of delaware county by the way. 29 in philadelphia, 27 in allentown, everybody below the freezing mark and this afternoon we're finally going to break past that freezing mark by quite a bit. by noon we're up to 37 and your high today is 40 degrees, so things will get better later but karen for now icy patches still possible. >> that's right, dave i know i woke up extra early. i have a long commute like a lot of you and gave myself a lot of extra time. the worst part for you may be walking to your car because we're seeing icy conditions on your sidewalks and driveways. here we're looking at the main road ways. this is fort washington in montgomery county 309 at the pennsylvania turnpike. for the most part the main roads are just wet with some icy patches here or there but especially those icy patches on the secondary roads. we're get something new information here with mass transit, an issue with the at the present time septa trolleys. they canceled the norristown high speedline until further notice so you got to watch for that. let's go outside this is i-95 at cottman the overnight construction in the process of clearing and although we're watching some slick spots we're not seeing anyone slip or slide on i-95 southbound. the big traffic nightmare was on the new jersey turnpike and the action cam was on the scene. matt and tam talked about this and you can see this live picture and this is other new jersey turnpike. it is up in middlesex county in cranbury township. a multi vehicle pileup, a fatal accident that occurred about 9 o'clock last night. still affecting some traffic. so, what they're doing in this area, this is where the turnpike has split off. you've got the inner lanes and the outer lanes so at this point the outer drive is still blocked but the inner drive is opened at this point and that's between exit nine and exit eight. you can avoid it by sticking to one southbound or 130 southbound but if you're traveling up, if you're up north and traveling southbound on the new jersey turnpike you can still get by at this point. if you're headed northbound it's no problem at all but a big accident and just an idea of what can happen, matt and tam, with these icy roads. >> indeed. let's take a look at your roads and go on over now thrive "action news" reporter annie mccormick. she's out and about in mobile6. how is it looking, annie? >> reporter: it looks good out here tam. we're actually on the blue route south. we're in springfield township at this point giving you a look here at the roadways. you can see that sign there penndot telling people to reduce their speeds because of the winter weather conditions. these roads were treated pretty well. we've been on the blue route for some time. we were also on the pennsylvania turnpike southbound and also 76 westbound. we're seeing plenty of penndot trucks out there. in fact for a couple minutes we just were following a penndot salt truck. but enough distance behind it i'll add. roads really pretreated. you can see that they're wet in some areas but not slick which is the key part. also seeing some people not listening, not going at the lower speeds, rates that penndot is suggesting of course on those signs so got to still take it slow because icy patches could still pop up. for now reporting live from mobile6, annie mccormick channel6 "action news" isn't annie thank. yet another winter storm has left new england buried in snow. this is a look at -- actually that's a look at philadelphia international airport. not so bad for us but up in manchester, new hampshire they've got a snow emergency in effect this morning. the highway crews say they're actually -- there's the look. they're running out of places to push and put the snow they've had so much of it. this steady run of winter has already sucked up more than 70 percent of new hampshire's winter maintenance budget. and our coverage of the icy conditions continues on 6abc.com/weather. we have storm tracker 6 radar and your accuweather forecast to keep you prepared for whatever winter will be throwing your way. >> in other news and breaking this morning a u.s. airways plane from philadelphia was forced to make an emergency landing in houston late last night. the pilot somehow brought the plane down with broken landing gear. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live in the satellite center with this video. erin. >> matt, some incredibly frightening moments for the 52 passengers and four crew members on board that american airlines flight operated by u.s. airways. it was traveling from philadelphia to houston. it was a three hour 42 minute flight but the last 45 seconds as you can see here, that's the moment of the landing were likely the longest and most terrifying. the plane actually had to land on its belly. during its emergency landing that you can see from that exclusive video. then caused sparks to fly from the bottom of the plane. now, officials say flight 18 twenty five was descending just after 11 11 o'clock and apparently the nose gear did not deploy. again, the plane had to make an emergency landing as you can see right there causing those sparks to shoot from the body of the plane. passengers had to exit the aircraft through the aircraft slides. one of the passengers on the plane said the pilot circled the control tower a few times and then made an announcement that passengers should prepare for an emergency landing. let's take a listen. >> he announced he was going to make an emergency landing and that everybody would kind of have to brace on impact. he touched down. it was smooth, you know. we came to a stop. there were some sparks and things flying when i looked out the window and smoke and you could smell kind of burning rubber but we slid to a stop. as soon as we stopped the fire department was out there. they sprayed everything with foam. we he got out of the plane and jumped off the wing. >> reporter: and here is a shot of the plane. you can see its nose is down. one of the passengers on board had to be taken to a local hospital but apparently that passenger's injuries were not serious and that passenger will be okay according to an airline spokesperson. american airlines released a statement in response to this emergency landing saying in part "american's primary concern at this time is for our passengers and crew. we are in contact with authorities and cooperating with response efforts and likely also cooperating with the ntsb who is -- which is investigating this emergency landing. again, that one passenger has injuries but they are not serious. of course no one wants to see that happen but luckily they had a very experienced pilot who made the best of a horrible situation. for now, we're live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." matt back to you. >> thanks erin. hopefully we'll fleer that pilot because he saved a lot of lives. >> he sure d i guess they train for that sort of thing. >> sure do. >> storm tracker 6 live double scan shows a little bit of precipitation left over from overnight. if with go in take that birds eye view you can see that it's all south of wilmington at this point. there's a little bit avenue changeover to snow right at the top of this. in fact let me go in and highlight that in new castle county delaware and parts of salem county. looks like some of that might be trying to cross over into gloucester county near glassboro. but a lot of this is the freezing rain and sleet where you see the darker blue i think that's where the sleet pellets are showing up on storm tracker 6 live double scan technology and as we go a little farther south cape may also picking up a little bit of this frozen stuff. so, wherever you see the blue, that's some more icing occurring beneath that in all likelihood. keep in mind that in the northern suburbs we had some of this coming through while you were sleeping and so there is a new sheen of ice on sidewalks, side streets and driveways up in areas even where you don't see the blue and the white. as we take a look outside, we are looking at cold conditions this morning. not only do we have temperatures below freezing but there's a bit of a breeze blowing that's adding to that discomfort, if you l temperature in philadelphia has dropped to 29 degrees now. the winds north-northeast at 16 miles per hour so a fairly significant wind and that's driving those wind chills down into the teens. so, in addition to having to be careful where you put your foot this morning with the possibility of some new ice forming overnight, you also have to bundle up because it is cold and a bit uncomfortable out there. satellite the wide view showing you that this is mainly an area of precipitation to our south. we're just kind of getting clipped with this for another couple hours. out to the west a lost clouds but we expect those to thin out a bit and we should return some sunshine into play as the day goes on. we're also going to get up above freezing. for the morning you have to be careful of ice under the feet and tires but by 11 o'clock we're up to 34 and by 2 o'clock this afternoon we hit our high of 40 and there should be a lot of melting going on at that point particularly if we can get some sunshine from behind the clouds and we do expect to see some. clouds mixing with sun across the region. milder than yesterday. 43 in wilmington, upper 30's down the shore and upper 30's in trenton another one comes in on sunday when highs will only be in the teens and mixed in a couple of chances of snow showers in your seven day as well. your exclusive accuweather 7-day breezy and milder this then there's sunday. windy and frigid with a high of just 19. look at you two. >> we're not going outside that day. >> no way. >> there's not any football anymore either. what are we going do? maybe there's a flyers game on. >> developing this morning fast moving flames tear through four homes in wilmington with deadly results. >> students come together to mourn the violent death of a student at
