pelman. good morning. >> david just sleeping in. let's take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan around the region if you're headed out early, it's damp out there just as we warned you it would be. as we look we can see some of the showers in spots, not everybody is getting it and for the most part it's light and showery. we're going to get some showers, some drizzle on and off through the day. a wider look at satellite 6 and action radar and you can see this is kind of one area of showers and we get a little bit of a break before the next one comes. it's going to be more on and off but we are just talking rain. where you see these mild temperatures, 48 degrees right now in philadelphia, 42 in allentown, even in the poconos we're well above freezing, 37. 50 already in millville so temperatures have already is your passed our average high for this date. we also have some fog to deal with as you're headed outer so watch for that early. some showers today, not a significant amount of rain but enough to make it damp and dreary. showers at times especially the first half of the day. 52 degrees for your high. and the heavier rain hits in the overnight hours. details on that christmas eve storm coming up in a few minutes, matt. >> i might be reaching karen but i think the fact that this is just rain is our little christmas gift. >> okay, good for you. this is all you wanted. >> well, it's almost all i wanted i guess. good morning to you, good morning, everybody. we are watching wet roadways out there this morning. could lead to some slippery conditions but at this point traffic is moving really well here on 95. there are no delays, no overnight construction to worry about here in the ongoing zone by girard avenue and so if you're headed towards center city so far so good. let's go for a ride on the pennsylvania turnpike starting around bensalem passing willow grove headed toward fort washington, a combo of the rainy conditions overnight and it being a holiday week means no overnight construction so all lanes opened, speeds in there 60's. we do have construction in hamilton township down here in atlantic county along route 40 near cologne avenue. a lane blocked both ways until 6 o'clock. normal schedule on mass transit. those weird schedules don't go into effect until tomorrow for the holidays. tam. >> thank you matt. we're starting with a developing story. a man was shot in the back walking home from the store in philadelphia. "action news" reporter katherine scott is lie at south detectives. she's got more details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam t-and a 33-year-old victim was speaking to police and he was able to tell them that leading up to the shooting there was no robbery, there was no argument so investigators here at south detectives are trying to determine why this man was shot. but the victim told police that he and his 30-year-old cousin were walking home from a nearby store around 1:00 a.m., they were at 25th and moore in south philadelphia and suddenly he heard gunfire and soon realized that he had been hit. he ran several blocks to his home which is where police met him and he was taken to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania where he's undergoing surgery. the victim was hit once in the back and apparently the bullet just missed his spine. investigators recovered at least eight spent shell casings from a semi-automatic gun at the intersection when they were out gathering evidence. >> there is a business with exterior surveillance cameras right in the area so hopefully these cameras recorded something that can help south detectives with their investigation. >> reporter: and among the things detectives are looking for is a description of the shooter or shooters. the victim wasn't able to provide one. if you have any tips, south detectives wants to hear from you. we're live in south philadelphia, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks katherine. happening today, congressmen jim gerlach and pat meehan will lead officials in chester county in a show of support for police firefighters and other emergency responders. the event is called support blue and will take place this afternoon at the chester county fraternal order of police lodge on north church street in west chester. police officers in our area and across the country are on increased alert following the assassinations of two new york city officers over the weekend. philadelphia police say threats are common with their department but there have not been any since the weekend cop killings. trenton police are investigating what they are calling a credible threat and have been meeting regularly with community members and the clergy. philadelphia commissioner charles ramsey says such meetings need to happen and more. >> whether it's protesters, whether it's police, whether it's government officials, everyone needs to take a deep breath, calm down. we need thoughtful discussion. >> commissioner ramsey is cochair of president obama's communities policing task force. >> the search goes on for the person who to the shot a three-year-old man an 43-year-old man in the grays ferry section of philadelphia. shots rang out on newkirk street yesterday. police believe a man known in the neighborhood as mo may have been the intended target but the gunman got into an argument with a neighbor william pew and shot him. both the boy and pew are now in stable condition. and haddon township police are on the trail of a bank robber. surveillance photos of the bandit were taken on the 300 block of haddon avenue yesterday afternoon as he passed a threatening note to the teller. the suspect ran away with cash. no one in the bank was hurt. >> luckily santa claus is not afraid of any rain. >> oh, no, santa is not afraid of anything. are you kidding? and the that rudolph, he's got it all covered. let's take a look at storm track live double scan around the region and you can see we have some showers around. for the most part this is just light. it's not that big of a deal. some showers, some drizzle here or there making it feel damp and dreary out there and that's the way it's going to be for the first half of the day. we can see these showers just kind of pulling up from the south and you're getting it a little bit more in south jersey and delaware where you had not been earlier. double scan showing us the latest. let's go on outside right now and see what it looks like, and yes, yes, it's wet at philadelphia international airport. we also have some low clouds causing problems. not just yet at philadelphia international airport. we still have gun visibility there but i have been keeping an eye on that. 48 degrees currently in philadelphia, the dewpoint 45. a lot of moisture in the air as you might imagine: winds out of the north-northeast at eight and the pressure 30.03-inches. also a we look at the visibility reports .3 of a mile visibility in mount pocono, 2-mile visibility in reading, 2.5 in lancaster, five at philadelphia international airport so not a big deal there but something we're watching as we will see some dense fog in spots today. satellite 6 and action radar showing we have lots of clouds, yes. here's the first batch of showers and we can see we might get a little break before the next batch moves through. it's going to be occasional rain and drizzle. today it's on the light side today. future tracker 6 showing at 8:30 in the morning some spotty showers spread throughout the area so your morning commute is going to be wet at times for sure. 10 o'clock, same situation, some showers here or there, hit or miss but the afternoon is a bit drier. we still have clouds, still drizzle but not any really evident showers through the evening rush. you should be okay. then we advance this until tomorrow morning's commute. this is christmas eve. we have been talking a lot about this storm that's coming and by 5 o'clock in the morning the roads are going to be very wet. we can see some rain heavy at time. you get the idea it's not solid through the day but on and off through the early morning commute to the overnight hours we're going to have rain at times tomorrow and look at this, this is christmas day at 4 o'clock in the morning. so you can see it's going to be wet out there and then this all ends by early morning hours. i think 5, 6 o'clock we're dry on christmas day and staying dry the rest of the day. so, let's take a look at your forecast. it's kind of two rounds of rain. today we're on the light side. light rain, drizzle, not that big of a deal, just making it feel damp. christmas eve from early in the morning until late at night, it's going to be raining, heavy at times. not constantly all day. you're going to have these periods of rain. a half inch to an inch of rain. so a pretty significant amount rain for a one-day period. let's take a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. early showers today and then drizzle in the afternoon here or there. so, it's really the first half of the day that's wet, 52 for your high. tomorrow rainy and breezy, periods of rain from early in the morning until late at night. 63 for your high, very mild. thursday we are dry, christmas day windy with some sunshine, 57. i think temperatures will drop in the afternoon. friday nice and sunny for kwanzaa and 50. staying mild on saturday and 54. sunday some late rain and 48 degrees and monday mostly cloudy skies and 40 degrees. so, we're turning up the rain and turning up the temperatures, too. >> thank you karen. it's 5:09 and the results of a new round of crash tests came in overnight and it brings a lot of good news for next year's models. seven-year-old girl from south jersey tells us why all she wanted for her birthday was to help the homeless. matt. >> that's nice. weary receiving a pretty decent commute so far this morning, matt. just a little bit wet here along city avenue at conshohocken avenue. these cars just stopped for the red light of course and a lot of our construction is winding down for the holidays but there are still zones in chester, montgomery and camden counties that we'll talk about after the break. >> and we will tell you how you can control a christmas tree in new jersey by using twitter. (joe) happy holidays! ♪and best wishes from the lottery♪ >> ♪ >> welcome back. you're taking a live look here on sky 6 hd down the shore into atlantic city. right now it's 5:12, warm this morning. it's 48 degrees. it will get up to 52 but wet across a good part of the region. >> so, traffic, i mean, it's really nothing this week, right? >> you know, it shouldn't be, yes. theoretically volume should be light. we had still had a lot of issues. people out and about but i think people are also going to the malls, going to the airport, trying to get to grandma's house so things are a little bit weird, they're a little off this week but we're still seeing people travel around. not really at this hour. as we look live in lionville chester county, this is route 100 just south of 113. it's wet here and one more day of construction here in the southbound lanes from 9:00 until 3:00 they'll work and block a lane and then they don't come back until about january 5th so you'll get a nice holiday break from the construction there in lionville. abington a work zone here as well along 611 old york road between london road there by the target and hamilton avenue to the north, they're going to block the left lane northbound from 9:00 until noon then the left lane southbound from noon until 3:00 clock. watch out for that if you're in abington during the midday. right now work going on in camden county, a couple spots blocking a couple lanes for the next 45 minutes. one is 168 near ferry avenue. the other 295 between 42 and the black horse pike. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report early on this tuesday morning. some of our friends using the waze app talking about rain out there in montgomery and bucks counties, one spot along upper state road. don't forget you can join our 6abc commuter team. just go to my waze and then you go to teams and there you can select the 6abc commuter team and you can help us. you can gather information for us that we'll share on the air there are "action news" mornings. tam. >> sounds like fun. thank you matt. well, most seven-year-olds wants a party for their birthday and they don't mind if you bring them a bunch of presents but mia montgomery of marlton new jersey had a different kind of celebration in mind. erin o'hearn is live at the big board with this story. her parents must have raised her right. >> i love this story. she wanted a different celebration and we should all be celebrating seven-year-old mia during this holiday season because as you know, at times the news in the morning is as hard to deliver as it is to listen to. but we promise this story will lift your spirits this morning. about three months ago during a trip to new york mia saw some homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk. it was an experience that upset her but also inspired her. so instead of celebrating her birthday on december 19th she asked her mother if she could give up all her presents and use the money to organize a dinner for families who often don't know where they will find their next year. mia used social media in the best way to make a selfless request that family and friends send money to feed the less fortunate instead of sending her gifts. dozens of people enjoyed a warm meal in marlton and in return, mia, her family and anyone watching this right now received a seasonal gift you can't buy in stores. >> a lot of people came in here eating and moms, dads, babies, other people they got really happy. >> we really appreciate everybody that cares to help mia with her birthday blessing. it's an amazing thing that she's doing and she's letting everybody know that christmas is still alive. >> amazing is right and the church which hosted the dinner sang happy birthday to mia and gave her this cake with the scripture a little child shall lead them. mia our many thanks from "action news" amid all the hustle and bustle for reminding us what this season is all about. >> well said erin. the sixers have another chance to win two games in a row. they've only won three overall this season. they face the heat in miami tonight. lebron is not there anymore.
