I was going to say it is hot out here for more than one reason. The weather is this crowd behind me on the parkway [ cheers ] there is a lot of people checking out the nfl draft experience down here. And we got no booing. Everyone is welcome today. Right . Everyone is welcome down here today on the parkway. As we take a look at the temps right now. We did touch 80 so far this afternoon for philadelphia and reading. 60s along the shore. Little bit cooler there. But, guys, we have more hot weather to talk about. Well have that exclusive accuweather sevenday forecast. Look at this [ cheers ] considers you going to dance . Oh, yeah, oh, yeah. Hes a giants fan. Poor guy. Lets turn now to action news sports director Ducis Rodgers who just sat down with a very wellknown eagles alum. And former eagle Donovan Mcnabb has never been shy about his opinions. What does he think is in store for the eagles tonight . Surprisingly, guys, mcnabb thinks the eagles should go with a defensive player with that pick tonight. There are men i of holes to fill. The birds had have plenty of options when its their turn to make a selection. Mcnabb is a still a beloved figure here in philadelphia. Hes been in this position before. He was the second overall pick in the 1999 nfl draft. Mcnabb says he is excited for the city to host this big event and he also has some strong opinions as to what the birds should do. With the 14th pick what do you think they should do . I think they should pick defense. As a quarterback youre saying that . Well, you bring in tory smith, you bring in alsean jeffrey, you knee, your line is pretty much not secure but you at least have lane johnson and you also have jason peters. But i think they need a playmaker. They need someone who can create turnovers for them. If its from a pass rush standpoint, or even a linebacker, they need somebody that can come in and provide a spark for them on the defensive end. Every good quarterback knows it starts with a great defense. Knack mcnabb pointed out he had a pretty good defense back in 1999. Reporting live, Ducis Rodgers, channel 6 action news. Brian and sharrie, back ever 0 to you. Thank you. Now to a potential draft pick whos spending his time in philadelphia teaching important lessons to young students. With the parkway and surrounding roads closed and football fans trying to make their way here, you need to make sure you plan ahead. Yeah, were going to help you do that. Matt pellman standing by in the action News Traffic Center with some tips for those brave enough to venture down here. Hey, matt. Good luck to them. Good afternoon to you. But you guys aring log great. Good afternoon, brian and sharrie. What is definitely not hooking great on this thursday afternoon is the traffic. And with the draft, with the penn relays and the phills game, we dont need any extra complications, but weve had them this afternoon. Here along 95, northbound by penns landing, its a vehicle fire. Fire crews have been on the scene. The ladder truck is pulling away leaving the scene. The fire is out. Theres the vehicle right there that was in flames a little while ago. But we still have lanes blocked and that means the traffic is still a mess. As you come northbound away from the walt whitman bridge, at this point through penns landing. Very slow going on 95 northbound that will only get slower once that phillies game does come to an end and people leave south philadelphia and try and get up into the northeast. So 95s not the spot to be in right now. And of course, unless youre heading to the draft, you dont want to be where near the parkway this evening. Lot of people out here walking around. Local vine is blocked. Youve got the numbered streets closed. Of course, the mlk and kelly drive is closed leading into the oval. So this is going to put extra traffic on roads like broad street, on roads like ridge avenue. I actually saw traffic this afternoon on henry avenue up through east falls. People are trying to find different ways to get around all these closures. On the schuylkill westbound, we have a blown down vehicle near 30th street station. Had a crash on the boulevard thats now cleared and theres an accident in chester county, single digit speeds on the 30 bypass westbound because of that accident in downingtown. Stick with business 30 or even the turnpike westbound as alternates. Yeah, already a mess, brian and sharrie. Well check it again in the next halfhour. It is a busy day in the city. Okay, matt. Tonight, 32 upandcoming lths will earn their ticket to the pros in what has become a wellorchestrated television event. Heres what to expect when the draft kicks off at 8 00. One team will always be on the clock. For the first round, each team gets ten minutes to submit their selection. A team can go over, but that clears the way for the next team to pick before them. The order is determined by last seasons performance from worst to best barring any trades. Tonight, the eagles pick 14th. They were supposed to pick 12th, but they traded that firstround pick away to cleveland to move up and get wentz. The eagles regained a firstround pick when they sent quarterback sam bradford to the vikes. The pick will be submitted at sleacks square. This year headquartered at the Franklin Institute. Once the name is written down on a card at selection square, its an official pick. And the draft clock resets. If one of the prospects backstage is chosen, the nfl makes sure they have their new jersey and hat right away.
