Williams says her morning started with a rush of frantic calls. My phone just started blowing up saying pastor pam your church is on fire, your church is on fire and im like what do you mean your church is on fire. Reporter dark smoke from the massive blaze at the Historic Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in overbrook could be seen from over a mile away. An action news viewer recorded this cell phone video just as dozens of firefighters arrived scene. Only took a couple minutes for the whole church to go up. Reporter the four alarm fire broke out about 9 oclock this morning while Church Member richard clem was in the shower the he barely escaped. I was upstairs on the third floor in the shower and i came out and there was a lot of smoke. I just crawled down the hallway and came out the window and they took me down the third floor. Reporter clem was one of two people inside. The others self evacuate. Neither was injured. Deputy commissioner Robert Corrigan says this blaze was one of the tougher ones to beach over 120 personnel were needed. Church fires are notoriously to fight. Meanwhile in new jersey, another church is also dealing with damage today after a pickup truck slammed right through the wall. Chopper six shows the wreck match west Windsor Township mercer county. The truck crashed into the building on south mill road around 1 oclock this afternoon. Fortunately there are no reports of any injuries. It is time now for a check of the accuweather forecast and whats been another hot day and theres also a warning today for anyone swimming at the jersey shore. Lets go over to meteorologist adam joseph. Heat wave number six is rolling on. Friday 93, saturday 93, yesterday 90. Today so far 93 degrees. Well above that normal of 84 and we have that extreme humidity also kind of tapping in with these very hot temperatures so a very uncomfortable day. Feels like 94 in philadelphia right now, 95 in wilmington, 97 in millville and really not much in the way of a break even along the shore. 90 in cape may. 90 in beach haven with it as hot as it is even on the sand makes you want to jump into that water to cool off but we are tracking kind of a trio here, tropical trio of trouble. Number one, hurricane gaston which is well east of bermuda, this is about 1200 miles away from our coastline. We also have tropical depression number eight that is just off of the carolina coast and tropical depression number nine which is heading into the gulf of mexico. So, as we track not only gaston which wave heights underneath gaston are 27 feet they do wane quite a bit as they push to the west but were still seeing increased wave heights philadelphia down to the eastern seaboard and also this is expected to become a Tropical Storm just off of the carolinas and that will be heading out to sea but it will also add to the swells pushing against the shore line and in fact, that rip current danger is moderate and looks remain that way through much of the week. All those waves pile up against the shore line, what piles up must rush back out somewhere along the coast and thats when a rip current develops. When you see a rip current the water is a little more foggy in nature and if you ever caught in a rip current you do not want to fight it. Let it take you out and eventually it is going to ease and then youll go to the right or to the left of that returned rip current. Rip current and ride the wave back to shore. Always swim when the beaches are guarded during the day. Now that the kids are back to school many of the beaches are not guarded brian so find ones that are and listen to those lifeguards especially this upcoming week. Well do. Lots to watch adam. Thanks very much. Breaking news that led this newscast. In the meantime the girlfriend of Philadelphia District attorney Seth Williams is now charged with slashing tires on the security vehicles parked outside his home. The vandalism and arrest just the latest controversy swirling around the citys top prosecutor. Action News Reporter chad pradelli live in center city in front of the d. A. s officers and chad youve got the details here. Reporter yeah, brian her name Stacy Cummings and shes the girlfriend of District Attorney Seth Williams. Yesterday she turned herself in to the police to be charged in this tire slashing of two city owned vehicles outside of williams home. When did williams know about her involvement and two why did it take so long for her to be charged . The alleged tire slashing happened november 11th of last year. Sources say the investigation was initially handled in house by the d. A. s office. A source tells action news under city policy any vandalized city vehicle must be investigated by the Philadelphia Police detective area which oversees the area where the crime occurred. That didnt happen. Mayor jim kenney called the incident a distraction but one he knew little about. She shouldnt have done it. She apparently admitted doing it. Reporter sources say 12 days after the incident the d. A. s office reported the crime to police. Still, handled the investigation in house. Then august 10th of this year nine months after the alleged crime, sources say Stacy Cummings attorney went to the d. A. s office and said they had information about the crime. It was referred to the Delaware County d. A. Office and charges were filed rather quickly when sources say cummings confessed though she didnt go into detail about motive. Leads you wondering theres some blurring of the personal and the professional in this instance that seems a little troubling. Reporter David Thornburgh is the ceo of the committee of 70 a political watchdog group. He says the recent criminal case and williams recent disclosure that he failed to report 160,000 in gifts including a 45,000 the new roof should raise questions for voters. And in what may simply be a coincidence cummings authorities went to attorneys on the same day her boyfriend disclosed 160,000 on his amended Financial Disclosure form august 10th. The question for the District Attorney is how does taking 160,000 in gifts improve your ability to serve the people of philadelphia . Reporter and Seth Williams, his office and his attorney so far have had no comment. Im live in center city, chad pradelli channel6 action news. All right, chad, thank you. It is time now for the action news traffic report. Lets do it on a monday afternoon autumn marisa in for matt pelman in the action News Traffic Center to get us started. Hi, brian and sharrie. Its a busy one this afternoon. Well start on the schuylkill expressway a few things to tell you about. That the first one is westbound this is right at girard. We have a disabled bus off to the righthand shoulder. Also on the eastbound lanes right at belmont we have an accident we cant see that in our camera right now three vehicles involved that has been pushed off to the shoulder. Penndot is there waiting for the police to arrive. Speeds starting to dip down. In the teens on the schuylkill expressway. Not looking too balanced on the blue route. If youre on 95 southbound heading towards delaware, about 24 Miles Per Hour right now. Another real slow go is on the vine street expressway. In those eastbound lanes we had a disabled vehicle right at eighth street so that really slowed you if youre heading up towards 95 and you can see a crawl too in the westbound lanes making your way up to the schuylkill expressway right now. Several incidents to tell you about. The first one is because of that four alarm fire in the overbook section of the industry. Lansdowne avenue closed between 64th and 65th street. Use media street as your alternate to get around that. Moving right along in Spring Garden street is closed between pennsylvania avenue and the ben franklin parkway. Thats for the made in america concert that will take place this coming weekend and old wilmington road between brokenville road and aldine road has a water main break so use 41 to get around that and keep in mind garden state parkway northbound past Atlantic City because of that earlier shooting in Egg Harbor Township. Well bring you an update in the next half hour. Back to you brian and sharrie. Thank you. The company that hiked the price of a life saving medication makes a big change amid a national backlash. Those reports of an active shooter ended up being false. But they caused chaos sending hundreds of people rushing from the terminals onto tarmacs onto sidewalks and even pushing through security checkpoints. Officers responded with weapons drawn and ended up detaining this masked man dressed like the fictional character zorro. But investigators found in evidence of a gun or any shots fired. Luckily there were no serious injuries but about 280 flights were delayed, a few were even canceled. Still no word on what exactly the loud noises were that caused the panic in the first place. But at the time passengers did believe that airport was under fire. Immediately started running, went through an emergency exit that was close to a gate ran down onto runway. All of a sudden there was a flood of people that came run into the bathroom saying theres a shooter. I mean everyone was in a huge panic. Scary stuff there. Last nights incident in los angeles follows a similar evacuation at j. F. K. International airport in new york. That scare was provoked by loud noises from olympic celebrations. Delaware leaders are making sure we know the story behind a popular park that was once used for a very different purpose. This afternoon they dedicated Historical Marker at what is now the delcastle golf course in mill town. Many decades ago it was called the delcastle prison form where inmates could learn farming skills to help them get jobs upon release. That prison farm closed its doors in 1968 and new life there today. A sunny and bright day to be outside for the dedication. Time now for the accuweather forecast. All right, lets send it over to meteorologist adam joseph. Golfing sounds pretty good today. Wear sunscreen. Yes. Pretty hot and somewhat miserable in many locations when you combine the humidity especially south of philadelphia. Sky6 live right now penns landing will show again we are sun soaked here to start the new work week and the temperatures again soaring above 90 for most of us. The exception reading allentown, 89 at the last hour. The high so far in philadelphia today is that 93 degrees. 92 in paren ton trenton and beach haven. 9292 at the Atlantic City airport so you dont have to go in all that much from the immediate shore line to boost those temperatures above 90. There is something pushing through that will change the wind and bring in some drier air and that is a cold front. Dewpoints are running at 63 philadelphia, 68 in washington but 50s now just to our north and a reminder when those dewpoints start to hit the 50s you would say when you step out, hey, feels pretty nice and comfortable out there and thats going to happen tonight. Satellite and radar not much in the way of clouds, some high clouds southern new jersey and delaware at the present time so you wouldnt even know there is a front progressing through other than that wind shift out of the north. So, for tonight 59 by tomorrow morning in allentown 60 reading, 61 lancaster, 65 in millville, 70 in philadelphia. Plenty of stars under a clear sky but that humidity will be dropping every hour as we go deeper into the overnight. Then as we get into your tuesday, one thing youll notice here, the hourly forecast, you dont see any 90s so this heat wave officially will end tam well top off in the upper 80s tomorrow, though. Maybe a thermometer or two will try to touch 90 here but the biggest difference with the sun and clouds will be the lower humidity on tuesday. Tropical depression number eight is just south and east of Cape Hatteras moving to the northwest at seven, winds right now 35 miles an hour. This will more than likely turn into a Tropical Storm and then will curve and head out to sea wednesday into thursday. It stays relatively weak, 45 to 50 miles an hour winds but with that drifting by here and moving out to sea and still having gaston pulling some of its high swells our way thats going to keep the rip current risk high or moderate through much of the week and then tropical depression number nine that is now entering the gulf of mexico also going to take a curve to the right, could make landfall in northern florida on thursday morning as a Tropical Storm and this also by the weekend which is labor day will be a strong Tropical Storm off of the carolinas which again will increase that rip current risk so that will be a key factor as we go into the Holiday Weekends. But your four day at 4 00 forecast its 89 tomorrow, warm, less humid. If we stay under 90 this heat wave is over but its going to be really close here in philadelphia. Especially and then hot more sticky again wednesday, back up to 91. Another front comes in thursday morning rain giving way to afternoon sun at 85 and a September Beauty, yes, september begins thursday. Friday looks really nice, sun and clouds, low humidity and a high of just 80 degrees as we kick off that that labor day weekend. Again, that storm staying off our coast. We just have to worry about the higher rip current risk. Ill let you know what the sky is going to hold for that Holiday Weekend in the seven day. 80 is going to feel really good. Adam thank you. You can see the eastbound, we had a disabled vehicle taking out the righthand lane right at eighth but that has been cleared but still slow up to 95 and at a crawl if youre heading up towards the schuylkill expressway in those westbound lanes also. Few incidents to tell you about. The first is on the garden state parkway northbound past the Atlantic City expressway. Keep in mind thats out there taking out the righthand lane and in lansdowne avenue closed at 64th street and 65th street. The alternate is media street. Thats because of the four alarm fire earlier today. Showing you whats going on in old wilmington road between brackenville road and aldine drive a water main break. 41 is going to be the alternate. Back to you brian and sharrie. All right, autumn thank you very much. Turns out relief could be on the way. The latest heat wave is expected hopefully to come to an end. Were hoping. By 1 degree maybe here tomorrow we could finally end it but the humidity is going to drop so that is a definite. Saul quiet. You wouldnt know that a cold front is presently passing through just bringing a wind shift but no clouds hardly and really no precipitation. The heat index 94 in philadelphia, feels like 97 in millville, 94 in dover, 95 at the Atlantic City airport. Upper 80s at the shore. 92 in lancaster but notice the poconos pretty refreshing there at 79 degrees. Barely can tell again that that front is slipping through presently right now, some clouds southern new england now racing away but again drier air coming in from the north in buffalo and binghamton. For tomorrow its sunny, its warm, 89 degrees. Again going to be right on that verge of that 90degree mark but definitely lower humidity with a little wedge of High Pressure coming in, so tomorrow much more comfortable than it is today and then well watch another front progressing through. This will have a little more cloud cover with it and rain coming in wednesday night early on thursday morning but ahead of this front a couple of things. It will boost to 91 degrees, it turns humid and hazy as well and what will be more than likely a Tropical Storm off of the carolinas on wednesday. This front will kick this out to sea so thankfully it is not going to pull it up the eastern seaboard but we are still tracking the tropical trio out here, some trouble. We have hurricane gaston east of bermuda. This continues to drift to the north and continues to be a fish storm, meaning it has no effect on land owner send something high waves along the eastern seaboard. Tropical depression number eight off the carolinas expected to become a Tropical Storm and the same thing for tropical depression number nine on the tip of cuba right now heading into the gulf of mexico. So, with all three in play over the open waters and most of them and even including number nine in the gulf of mexico will eventually emerge across florida into the atlantic. Were looking at a rip current danger right through the Holiday Weekend. Moderate to high every single day. Waves between three and 5 feet and not only do you have to watch for the rip current risk but waves of that size they have such force coming in to the shore line that the breakers can injure you by knocking you down on the stand. Some folks get head injuries also you can have back problems if they hit you from the back as youre heading back into the shore line and also you want to swim on guarded beaches. Many of the beaches are no longer guarded in new jersey and delaware because many of the students are going back to school so definitely find those guarded beaches. 77 is the ocean temperature. If youre heading to the shore for tomorrow still very warm and inviting 81 in new jersey, 82 tomorrow so much cooler at the shore with that that sea breeze, mostly sunny but watch that rough surf with a northeasterly wind five the 10 miles an hour. The exclusive accuweather 7day forecast 89 tomorrow warm and less humid. Another hot sticky day on wednesday, 91.
