A state Police Helicopter was brought in as on eye in the sky and as it flew overhead a large flash bang was fired. S. W. A. T. Officers then moved quickly. Several women and a man were taken into custody. The man was described as the suspect in the shooting. He was put into this police car. As the officer stood down and departed residents who had been watching applauded the police. Explaining. We are applauding because they got somebody bad off the streets. If hes going to shoot at a cop hes definitely going to shoot at innocent bystanders and i live right there. That was a widely held sentiment here today in the borough, someone who is willing to shoot a Police Officer is someone you den need in your neighborhood in other words good riddance. Just after that call, another Police Officer drove officer dorman to mercy fitzgerald hospital and from there he was flown to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Reporter well, sharrie, officer Christopher Dorman is undergoing a second surgery here at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. When Police Updated us a few hours ago he was in critical but stable condition. The chief of Folcroft Police also told us more about what happened this morning and more about officer dorman. Hed been with us a little over a year. Outstanding officer. I cant say enough about him. Outstanding. Reporter Folcroft Police chief spoke about 25yearold Police Officer Christopher Dorman outside Penn Presbyterian Medical Center after visiting the officer who was shot multiple times in the line of duty. I was told by the doctors that thank god he had his vest on. Apparently there may have been several shots into his vest. Reporter sources say the officer was shot at least seven times including in the face, torso and lower extremities while responding to a report of drug activity behind an apartment complex. Covering to the chief the second officer scene drove dorman to mercy fitzgerald hospital in this patrol vehicle. Officers could be seen photographing and surveying the vehicle before it was taken away. As officer dorman was transported he was awake and able to speak and gave a description of the suspects. He was quickly transported to penn presbyterian where his family and a number of fellow officers gathered to support him. Mother and father are here. Theyre obviously upset but they feel mour more relieved tht hes stable according to the doctorsism again officer dorman is in critical but stable condition. Were told that before becoming a Police Officer he was a volunteer firefighter in folcroft. Thats patience there on the crutches giving a big hug and tiara right there giving a gut wrenching tear filled eulogy calling her cousin her Guardian Angel and the smartest girl she knows akyra had just graduated from west Catholic High School with honors. She was a star basketball player. She was headed to Mercyhurst University with a full athletic scholarship and today in prayer, in song and in dance they gathered to remember a victim of this massacre, a young promising life taken too soon. It is busy in spots let me tell you especially south of philadelphia as we look live right now from the beach contact in ocean city. It is raining in many locations drain land once again southern new jersey and southern delaware taking the brunt of the rain and the thunderstorms this afternoon. As we look at storm tracker6 live double scan theres a few scattered storms to the north and west or downpours but again the concentration has been in southern areas this afternoon as we close into one location, a couple of popups here, one in Chester County right along the pennsylvania turnpike north of downingtown. To the north and east of green lane and parts of berks county a little shower popping up there. These are slowly drifting and not moving all that much so if you see one pop up, there will rain themselves out in that exact location without moving all that much and as we head to the south, in parts of Cumberland County still dealing with some flooded roadways there in and around fortescue and moorestown. Stone harbor Sea Isle City just south of ocean city dealing with a nasty thunderstorm that is now beginning to push offer the coast and in cape may youre hearing the thunder and getting a couple sprinkles but this is sinking down to the south slowly. Dewpoints in southern areas even wilmington in the upper 60s to near 70. That is where its really tropical and muggy and firing up some of these storms but notice how dry it is to the north with dewpoints only in the 50s in the Lehigh Valley and that dry air will continue to move in. Were in the 80s to the north. We have more sunshine and that drier air. Weve seen the rain and its muggy, temperatures are only in the up are 60s to around 70 degrees. As we look at satellite and radar, notice a lot of clear skies to our north and west. Thats going to be pushing in moving this front to the south for the upcoming weekend so for tonight, were looking at visit to the north and west, 64 philadelphia, 62 in millville, 67 in cape may. A few of those leftover popups here at 7 oclock this evening but once the sun sets they quickly fall apart along with the cloud cover looking pretty good here and then as we go into 9 30 to start tomorrow morning, it is clear, no matter where you are for the start of the weekend. In fact that four day at 4 00 forecast will show tomorrows high 87 degrees. It will be sunny, spectacular with lower humidity and then it is warm, continued low humidity on sunday of 88 degrees. And up next it started as a fire in a vacant lot but as philadelphia firefighters put on the the flames, what they found has police trying to solve a mystery. Police in north philadelphia are investigating a disturbing discovery and a possible murder mystery. This morning firefighters got a call about a fire in an empty lot in the 1700 block of west allegheny. But when they put out the flames, they realized it was a body on fire. They dont know who the person is and whether or not his opinion was already dead. They also have not said who they think started the fire. Meantime detectives are also looking for a gunman east mount airy. The shooter walked over to a pickup truck and shot a man who was sitting inside the vehicle. This happened just before 1 00 this morning on the 6300 block of magnolia street. One bullet went into a home but did not injure the woman who was sleeping upstairs. The shooting victim was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. A plaque honoring a fallen firefighter has been replaced months after it was stolen from a north philadelphia sidewalk. First responders rededicated the new plaque today at engine 45 on west york street. The memorial honors james mcgee who died while battling a blaze back in 1898. The original brass plaque was stolen back in march at the intersection of second and eerie. Police are still trying to track down the thief. The action cam was in wilmington today as citizens joined city leaders in pledging a Violence Free summer. Hundreds of kids and adults took the pledge here at Helen Chambers park where they were treated to hot dogs hamburgers games and some music. And even ice cream. The event was organized by the city as well as the stop the violence coalition. Up next were continuing to follow the very latest on that officer ambushed in Delaware County. Weve got a live report just minutes away. An investigation is under way after self people got sick in a building on villanovas campus. And police found more than just sweet treats at a candy store in new york. Police spent nearly three hours searching the neighborhood for suspects. At least four people have been taken into that custody for questioning. Reporter brian and sharrie, this neighborhood was essentially shut down for several hours as police frantically searched for the person behind this shooting. In fact, throughout much of this organized chaos, the focus was on that building. Around 10 00 a. M. , residents say gun shots shattered the morning calm along elmwood avenue less than a block away from the Folcroft Police department. We were all in my backyard and i was getting ready to light get on this exercise machine and there were six gun shots about not even 40 feet away from my house. Reporter terrified residents took cover as heavily armed atf Police Officers and a state chopper descend upon the neighborhood shutting down roads and evacuating homes. They zeroed in on this apartment building. My dad rushed us inside. We looked out the front door. The cop was rushing by. Reporter Folcroft Police tell action news that 25yearold officer Christopher Dorman was dispatched to this building after reports of people smoking narcotics. Dorman was shot several times in his face, torso and lower extremities. He was taken to penn Presbyterian Hospital in critical but stable condition. I was told by the doctors that thank god he had his vest on. So, apparently there may have been several shots into his vest. I dont know front, back or both. Im not sure. Reporter meanwhile Police Activity quickly intensified back at the scene. Moments after a flash bang was set off officers emerged from this building and took at least four people into custody. My family really respects Police Officers so im pretty sure were all really sad. Reporter now police have not said what connection if any those taken into custody have to this shooting but this is still very much an active investigation. An ambulance and an suv collided. We know that at least one person was injured but no other details have been released as of this hour and no one was being transported in the ambulance at the time of the crash. Philadelphia police have made a third arrest in connection with the murder of a woman found dead in fairmount park. Today police announced Keith Bullock is now charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder. Toy bryant was found murdered in the park last week near the mann center. Police have already charged Siobhan Armstrong and shintele smith with murder. Police say it appears bryant ode the suspects 800. Police are also looking for a man who fired shots in West Philadelphia. This happened earlier this month but police just released the video of the incident on Surveillance Video you can see the suspects grab a gun from a book bag on the corner of 60th and ludlow streets. He then starts shooting at a group of people. None of them was injured. But the suspect was able to get away. If you know anything about this shooter, call police. Firefighters in Burlington County are making progress getting a brush fire under control. This is what the fire looked like at joint base mcguiredixlakehurst in browns mills on win. That fire is now 95 percent contained. Officials say it burned 220 acres. Right now there are no reports of damage to nearby property. Crews will spend the weekend monitoring the fire and putting out any hot spots. Still no word just yet on how all of this began. An Investigation Continues today into what caused an mysterious odor to fill a building on villanovas campus. At least one person was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Firefighters in california are still struggling right now to contain a fire that officials have called a fire fight of epic proportions. The fire began yesterday near Lake Isabella in the central part of the state. It quickly spread destroying 80 homes. Another 1500 homes are threatened right now and the fire has burned more than 8,000 acres. Firefighters say the dry weather and the wind gusts are making it hard for them to get this under control. Investigators are still trying to determine just how this fire started. So far still no word from motivational speaker tony robbins today. More than 30 people who attended his event last night in dallas were treated for burns after he encouraged them to walk on hot coles. Hes used that exercise in the past to help people conquer their fears. And many people were seen leaving limping. None of the injuries was said to be lifethreatening. The new York Police Police department is celebrating a major drug bust that took place at a candy store in brooklyn. Police say they found truckloads of heroin and cocaine hidden inside the store. People who live and work nearby said they had no clue. Investigators uncovered the drug operation behind a secret door. The state finance department was initially investigating the shop for untaxed cigarettes but became suspicious of something more and then tipped off police. Again you want to think alternates like ridge pike or route 30 instead. Then we had a pair of disabled vehicles on the schuylkill just east of the boulevard. They are both now on the shoulder so thats good news. The lanes are opened in that area. We have concerts tonight the Mann Music Center and the bb and t pavilion. Dave matthews is in camden tonight. A lot of people out and about getting out for the Holiday Weekend they might be trying to go over the tacony palmyra bridge. Dont want to do that right now. As we take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan, its a little rocky at times right now especially in southern new jersey, the shore communities with a batch of rain that is beginning to push off the coast and a few peppering the region just to the west of wilmington in the northern part of maryland. A lot of this is sinking to the south and east and a couple of scattered showers and a quick little downpour north of reading and allentown but again, the thunderstorms are now pushing off the coast of cape may wildwood Sea Isle City up to Atlantic City, a little bit still over the bay that will cross over north of cape may route nine and the garden state parkway but the worst of it is now beginning to push away. Temperatures are the warmest to the north and west of town, 85 right now in martins creek, 82 slatington. 78 pottstown, 77 in Kennett Square and as we head to the south and east because of a wind off the water in addition to some of the rain its only in the upper 60s to near 70. Sounds cool and refreshing. However, it is not. You step out it kind of feels like a steam bath after that rain has passed through spiking the humidity. But we have two areas of high pressure, one over new england another one over the great lakes. The two are going to merge over and east of new england pushing this front to the south finally for the weekend setting up for some wall to wall sunshine. But for this evening, that early isolated downpour or thunderstorm otherwise it turns clear and comfortable, 58 in the suburbs, 64 degrees for center city. And the day planner here for your saturday 87 degrees in the city of philadelphia, low humidity and again wall to wall sunshine as we top off in the middle 80s during the afternoon and then backing off to around 79 by 8 oclock and then we kind of repeat it here on sunday. Sunshine, a little bit warmer. Some areas will touch that 90degree mark especially philadelphia to the north and west with an easterly wind. It stays much cooler at the shore, only in the upper 70s there. Millville at 85 degrees and speaking of the shore, a lot of people heading down there i know in avalon you have the allen man triathlon going on this weekend. You got to watch for the moderate risk for rip currents because of that persistent easterly wind. Youll want to listen to the lifeguards both days. 76, its going to be much cooler at the shore with that easterly wind but wall to wall sunshine. If youre heading to the poconos looking pretty good there as well. 79 on saturday. Sunny and delightful and warm and bright on sunday, low humidity. Can cant complain at 81 degrees. The exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, upper 80s here for the next three days. Again, flawless for the weekend and then on monday we crank the humidity up just a little bit. That brings more cloud cover in and a chance of a downpour or a thunderstorm in a couple of spots but the best chance is going to be on tuesday, very muggy, 87 as a frontal boundary passes through and it should start to wipe away here on wednesday. There could be maybe an isolated leftover downpour on wednesday but overall improving and then it turns very comfortable with sun and clouds thursday and friday with high temperatures in the lower 80s so some thermometers may tickle that 90degree mark the second half of the weekend but overall no extreme heat or humidity as we go into the next seven days. A Delaware County Police Officer is recovering tonight after those chaotic moments on the streets of folcroft. He was ambushed and shot several times in the line of duty. Sharrie williams is joining us and the big story on action news is the attack that landed a 25yearold officer in the hospital with critical injuries. We are currently awaiting the next update from Folcroft Police on the status of the officer and what they know about those in custody. In the meantime we have Live Team Coverage tonight. Trish hartman is live at the hospital where the officer is recovering but we begin with john rawlins live at the scene in folcroft. John. Reporter hi, guys. This was an attack in response and response. The attack starts about 10 00 a. M. It was on a young Police Officer as youve said. One witness said there was a burst of three shots followed by a burst of four shots. The response of course came from the s. W. A. T. Team. It all played out where that nondescript apartment house is behind me. For almost three hours s. W. A. T. Teams focused on the folcroft station apartments inside allegedly those who ambushed a young folcroft officer this morning as he responded to a report of drug activity. Once the officer confronted these subjects, there was a report of gunfire. Assisting officers arrived to find the officer shot several times. Reporter tamika daily heard the attack. Just heard shots, pop, pop, pop, pop. I said oh my god somebodys shooting. We come right out the door, cops, then its tons of cops coming, they just shot a cop
