saint st. christopher's hospital for children in hunting park. >> reporter: matt, that's where the victim drove himself, in fact detectives just wrapped up at st. christopher's hospital because they were holding the victim used to drive himself, it had several bullet holes and they needed to analyze it. this is video at the emergency room intradges -- entrance at st. christophers where you can see the car we were talking about. one of the bullets hit the 17-year-old victim in the shoulder. it was before 1:00 a.m. in the 5600 block of north lawrence and in olney when the 17-year-old shooting victim was behind the wheel with three friends in the car and two men approached one armed with a gun. when they aished at -- arrived t the scene, they found shell casings, but no victim. witnesses said they drove off when shots were fired. as he was about to pull from the parking spot along the curb, two males approached one had a gun they tapped on the window with the gun and attempted to open the drivers side door and announced a robbery. at this point the 17-year-old put his car in drive and took off. >> reporter: even after he was shot it's about a 3-mile drive from the scene to st. christopher's hospital. the 17 is in stable condition and expected to be okay. the rest of the group were taken to northwest detectives where they are being interviewed by police. police have to fix the situation here. when you look down wright avenue, you can see crews have been out and cleaned up some of the tree on the firewood on the side of the streets. there's leaves all over the road here. these severe storms caused problems in darby and across the area. in new castle along the battery river at battery park, a couple's sailboat capsized. rescue crews brought them to shore they waited to land with the help of firefighters. a tree came toppling down hitting a moving car on the road. the driver saw the tree coming and hit the gas to speed up, the tree struck them, but the people escaped with minor injuries. in darby 6 trees fell through power lines leaving dozens of home in the dark. on wright avenue a tree tore up the sidewalk and came crashing down on a car into a house. i see a tree fall down in front of my window and i heard a boom. i'm happy everybody is safe. >> reporter: an back here live in darby you can see improvement from the last pictures you saw when the trees were stretched out along the car, it looks like fireworks and crews tell us they will be back here later today when they continue to do their work. that will be the case across the area as this week. officer caesar goodson junior drove the van. gray suffered a fatal injury during the ride. he was charged with murder and faces 30 years in prison if convicted. gray's death prompted protests in the streets of baltimore. a veteran news reporter has been killed in afghanistan. he was traveling with an african army unit when the convoy came under fire. two other journalists traveling with the unit were not injured. he covered national news for npr and had been to afghanistan several times. officials with union pacific railroad say a track failure is likely to blame for a train derailment on friday. 16 cars came off the tracks in portland that erupted into a massive fireball. the fire is out. it is believed that a fastener between the railroad and line is to blame.
