Bayside state prison in hammonton. Action News Reporter john rawlins is now live at the new jersey state prison in trenton where buckel is now being held. John. Reporter well, jim, state officials not saying a lot about the actual apprehension this morning that occurred at 11 30. Buckel was brought directly here to the prison in trenton. He was not taken back to the facility where he escaped from. After six days on the run, Arthur Buckel gave up. The fugitive sitting quietly on a garden state parkway guardrail surrounded by members of law enforcement. A local police chief said a passing motorist called saying he spotted someone in the woods. A correction officer and detective responded. Detective pierce observed the subject in the woods about 60 to a hundred feet back into the woods. At gun point gave him very firm directions. Arthur buckel complied and the state corrections officer was able to to place him in handcuffs. Reporter buckel had been the subject of a manhunt since he escaped from a state minimum security facility in hammonton last week. He was spotted yesterday in a Surveillance Video at the forked River Parkway rest area near where he was picked up today. Apparently he had signaled the desire via a Family Member he wanted to turn himself in yesterday but failed to show when Police Arrived last night. That triggered an overnight ground and air search of this nearby neighborhood. The helicopters were directly over like this development and searching their lights into the wooded area. Reporter ground units searched houses still under construction. The cops were here last night looking under the houses that are under construction in case he tried to get in there. Which is something he might have done. Reporter today after being taken into custody, buck cull was driven in this white van to the state prison in trenton. He needs to be medicalsly evaluated and then interrogate bide a special corrections investigative team. Well, part that of investigation, jim, will be how did buckel pull off his escape, did he act alone, did he have help, did he walk out a door, did he go out through a window just what happened. Now an action news exclusive. Action News Reporter vernon odom talked to the third suspect in the attack on two Philadelphia School Police Officers last week. Just as he was surrendering to the law. This is vernons report. Reporter this man, 23yearold edwin burgos surrendered to police this morning. Hes the third suspect hauled in, the result of this violent encounter captured on cell phone video last week Near Northeast high school. Two School Police officers on duty at dismissal time police say saw two adult males assaulting a student and intervened. A brawl breaks out between the School Police and burgos and two relatives. One of the officers was thrown to the ground. The other officer punched in the face which resulted in a broken jaw. Police say burgos threw that punch and theyve been searching for him. This morning burgos mother contacted action news to arrange his surrender. Before getting locked up burgos proclaimed this image. They saying i attacked the officer because they broke up the fight. Thats not true. I broke up the fight. They cant say i attacked the officer because of there. What happened to the officers then. They then started walk meg down in the middle of the street and i was backing up to protect myself. Reporter burgos mother is parenning her own video that claims will prove her sons innocence. Police say theyll review it but for now burgos his younger brother and nephew are all in police custody. There was a fight starting to brew and break out. They broke that fight up and then during the course what you see in the video an altercation happens between mr. Burgos allegedly and a couple other males. Reporter tonight burgos and two of his relatives one of them a minor remain behind bars favoring multiple charges including aggravated assault and recklessly endangering a person. In northeast philadelphia, im vernon odom, channel6 action news. Philadelphia streets commissioner Donald Carleton has been charged with assault. The District Attorneys Office filed simple assault and Reckless Endangerment charges in connection with an incident that happened on december 6th. Carleton is accused of punching a man at a house party on the 6000 block of north american street. Mayor jim kenney placed carleton on leave. Carleton is that scheduled for his First Court Appearance next month. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will have an official role on Donald Trumps team if trump is elected president in november. Today trump tapped christie to lead his transition team. Christie says he looks forward top assembling an administration to serve president elect and the country. Trump has a key meeting with House Speaker paul ryan on thursday. Democratic president ial candidate Bernie Sanders brought his message to Atlantic City this morning. Thousands of rowers from around the country will be coming to philadelphia this coming weekend for the dad vail regatta but local rowers who know every inch of the river are seriously worried about the river and the future of rowing here. Action News Reporter Sarah Bloomquist explains why. Reporter boathouse row the Schuylkill River, the regattas a part of life in philadelphia but throws who love this river and the rowing say all there is in jeopardy because of sediment settling on the bottom. The bottom is coming up and the top goes down over the course of the summer. Reporter paul has company is with the Schuylkill Navy the governing body for all the rowing clubs. He says the sediment buildup is a natural result of damning the river and runoff but now the shallow depths in some places just 10inches are making the river increasingly unsafe for the rowers. 10inches is a lot of water well no. These rowing shells take 8inches of water in order to launch. So when we would try to push away from the dock, big plume of mud would come up. You can see the bottom and sometimes we cant even should havshoveoff the dock. Reporter bottom line its time for the army corps of engineers to dredge the schuylkill something that hasnt happened since 2000. Its done on the course to do list but at an estimated cost of about 3. 5 million the federal government cant seem to come up with the funds not this year, probably not next. Theres not a good thing. Theres so many people that use the river. The regattas, people come from all over the country and all over the world. Reporter the regattas and the fees rowing clubs pay the city bring in an estimated 50 million annually to the local economy. Without rowing the clubs will go and with them, a philadelphia tradition. I guess im praying for rain until the money comes through. Reporter were told the Army Corps Engineers and the local congressional delegation are on board with the dredging. Its just a matter of coming up with the money. And frankly for the core right now other projects are higher priority. Theyll be meeting later on this week to try to find some way to get the dredging done. On boathouse row, im Sarah Bloomquist, channel6 action news. The officials in delaware dedicated a new monument thine this afternoon honor hundreds of former patients of the delaware state hospital. Governor jack markell and other officials unveiled the New Historical marker at the hospitals spiral cemetery in new castle. The monument features the names of more than 750 people who are buried here between 1891 and 1983. Now committee has spent the last few months cleaning up and restoring this landmark. Bradford is back. Hopefully his teammates will let him fall to the routine and get going. We shall see. This was unnecessary when you think about it. What did he gain out of all this . Sam bradford has returned to the eagles. I guess its safe to assume hes returning Text Messages from team officials. Bradfords boycott of team related activities is over. Temperatures this month running so far more than 5 degrees below normal and precipitation weve had about two and a half inches, thats more than an inch and a half above normal so we could deal with some dry warm weather and well get a little bit of that this week but not all week long. Right now temperatures have dropped down into the 60s. 65 degrees after a high of 71 degrees earlier today. Thats just 1 degree shy of normal, two days of temperatures in the 70s, low 70s. Allentown 65. Trenton 67. Millville 62. Cape may with that wind off the bay, quite a bit cooler, 60 degrees and wilmington currently 61. Sat sick along with action radar showing this is the same front that moved through early yesterday morning that brought us some Early Morning clouds, some spotty showers. Its coming back to haunting us. Its been moving up from the south coming back to haunt us i should say moving up from the south and the west and thats bringing all the cloud cover and we have a little bit of moisture with it. Right now that moisture is pretty limited. In the meantime i want to focus your attention on oklahoma where theyve been getting Severe Weather, two reported tornadoes on the ground. I do not expect any Severe Weather this week but it will be somewhat unsettled. Tonight the clouds will continue to thicken. We will see a few spotty showers mainly south of philadelphia. Temperatures with the cloud cover not dropping off all that much, 45 degrees in the lehigh valley, center city 51 degrees. Future tracker showing tomorrow morning the clouds are in place, theyre pretty thick and we will see some rain, generally across southern delaware and southern new jersey and then it looks like it will be filling in a lin as we head towards early afternoon. Some of these showers as close to philadelphia, south jersey and delaware, you will be in the showers but its all about location. North of philadelphia were looking at clouds but the rain should not be getting there and then we do begin to break off the clouds by tuesday evening. And wednesday actually looking pretty good. So, tomorrow 61 degrees, about 10 degrees cooler than today, plenty of clouds, a shower in spots. Mainly south of philadelphia. Wednesday this High Pressure kind of flexes its muscles. That will bring the temperature back into the 70s. 73 degrees with some sunny breaks and during the day on thursday its looking pretty good before there entire moves in and brings us a wet end to the work week. So the exclusive accuweather 7day forecast tomorrow it will be cooler, lots of clouds, some showers south, 61 degrees. Wednesday the sunshine is back. It warms up to 73. And thursday partly sunny, 74 degrees but rain moving in at night and friday unfortunately looking wet for the beginning of the dad vail regatta with periods of rain and a high of 70. Saturday not a washout but a leftover shower is possible, 69 degrees. And then we clear things out and we cool it down a little bit on sunday, partly sunny, 63 and monday mostly sunny with a high of 63 so certainly not a full week of sunshine but we will get some glimpses of sun every now and then.
