Philadelphia. It appears two juveniles from a nearby playground ran over, picked up some rocks and bricks and started throwing them at the bus. It only took one to cause some real damage shattering that window frightening those students and injuring that 20yearold female. There were two assistants on that bus along with the driver who just spoke with police. He doesnt he was driving down the street. Obviously theres two assistants with them. We havent had a chance to talk to them. Just driving down the street and heres the bricks hitting the vehicle arent then he hears people screaming then stops the bus alerts the police and they take the kid to the hospital. Reporter police say the good news here, the incident was apparently caught on a city camera so they are reviewing that video. As we pan out here i can show you that this is the playground right there that Police Believe those two juveniles came from. Again that 20yearold school of the future special needs student was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center with injuries to her face t the other students were loaded onto another bus and reunited with their parents. Authorities say this was a case of arson. The plays broke out in a three story Apartment Building on kensington avenue near willard street. A 31yearold man died from injuries he sustained jumping out the window. Four others including two children were rushed to the hospital with the arson determination this is now in the hands of the police and action News ReporterSarah Bloomquist is live at police headquarters. Reporter jim, thats right, the homicide unit, the atf and the Fire Marshals Office are all part of the task force now investigating this deadly fire at whats being called a boarding house in kensington. As you said, weve just learned that the man who died after jumping out of the window of this boarding house was 31 years old. Weve also learned late this afternoon that another victim of this blaze, a young woman is in extremely critical condition. Shes been moved to the Crozer Chester burn unit and may not survive. Investigators are certain somebody set this deadly blaze. Now they want to know who and they want to know why. Crime scene investigators arrived at the scene of the fire soon after the fire marshal determined that the blaze was set using an incendiary device. It was right around 6 15 this morning when residents awoke to screams from their neighbors and thick black smoke filling the halls in the building. No lights, no alarms, nothing. We just heard people saying fire, fire. Reporter three people jumped from the upper floor. One of them an adult male died from his injuries suffered in the fall. When i looked up i seen somebody yelling out the window throw the baby out. I look and i see smoke over my head. Reporter witnesses said that baby was threeyearold Marilyn Rosado who was lowered out a window to firefighters who rescued three people in all including marilyns mother who was badly injured. The childs father spoke with action news. I wouldnt do this to my worst enemy. This is not fair for no one. Reporter the red cross arrived to offer help to the 18 residents now out of a home. The owner of the building wearing a red shirt is talking with police. L and i is looking into whether the building was properly licensed and equipped to alert residents of a fire. Occupancy of this type should have an alarm system. Its required by the fire code to have an alarm system and smoke alarms. We didnt find neither. Reporter now a source tells action news tonight that whoever put that accelerant did so up the steps of the boarding house so even investigators havent been able to get in and get to the upper floors to continue their investigation. As for the children they went to the hospital to get checked out. Turns out they were not injured and will be okay. Thank you sarah. An allentown mother has been charged with homicide in the death of her 20 month old son. Police say 19yearold Johnesha Perry threw the child off the hamilton street bridge into the lehigh river on may third. Perry also jumped into the river and survived. Zymeir perry was declared brain dead and taken off life support on saturday. Anapsida determined the cause of death was Blunt Force Trauma and drowning. Perry is being held at the Lehigh County jail with no bail. At the port of philadelphia, the cargo ship was supposed to deliver cocoa beans from ivory coast today. But it ended up transporting Something Else as well, the body of a dead stowaway. Action News Reporter walter perez is live at pier 84 in south philadelphia and walter youve got the full story. Reporter well, jim customs agents and fire officials have been working the scene all day long just a bit down the way here at pier 84. The body was just recently removed and it was a discovery that dockworkers say they will never forget. It was a bit past noon when kareem dye and some of his fellow dockworkers were removing a shipment of cocoa beans when they detected a powerful odor coming from the cargo hull. We found a bag of cookies powdered milk, snacks. Reporter and he says he still cant believe what happened next. I looked to my left and i hear one of my coworkers say its a dead body. Reporter witnesses tell us they found the victim naked and severely bloated wedged between sacks of cocoa beans. Investigators say judging from the fact that Food Supplies and a pair of boots were found nearby all indications point to the victim being a stowaway. He most likely boarded the ship before leaving the nation of ivory coast on its way to philadelphia. But the cause of death remains a mystery. Authorities say he could have died from anything including exposure to toxic chemicals used to preserve the beans through extreme heat or lack of oxygen. He may have drowned when the beans are irrigated. Kareem dye says this experience is something he would never forget. New jersey lawmakers want to crack down on socalled swatting. Legislative Committee Heard testimony today on a bill that would toughen penalties for people who prank call a authorities trying to get swat teams to respond. The impact of atlantic citys casino closings continues to be felt by low income residents. An Atlantic County spokeswoman confirms there has been a 12 percent increase in the number of families needing food stamps. The county is hiring 10 new caseworkers to meet the need. Overall Atlantic County residents collector more than 60 million in food starches last year and the first four months this year they collected 21 million in aid. A woman from Burlington County has been arrested for allegedly selling tickets to a concert featuring sheryl crow. The only problem there was no concert and no sheryl crow.
