birth. >> i i asked her her baby's name and she said chris. she said christmas. my partner he walked out. he got real emotional. it was a blessing. >> really good to see the baby is healthy. >> reporter: the officers are getting a lot of attention for their good deed. they say they were just doing their job. >> it's just a good reminder especially for the public that it's not always just the bad that you're going see us dealing with. we'll be able to help you, you know, get that sense of commune back. >> something i'll never forget. >> reporter: a special moment shared between these officers and this new mom, a new life they hope they get to be a part of in the future. >> i hope to keep in contact. i would like to see the baby grow. >> reporter: and mom and baby chris are doing just fine here at hahnemann tonight. they are hopeful they will get to go home soon. in center city, eva pilgrim, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you eve ranch our coverage of this special deliver continues on 6abc. we posted video that captured the moment as the little boy was born as well as pictures from the hospital where the office visited. it is there on 6abc.com. this story has been generating national attention. it will be featured on world news tonight with david muir coming up after this broadcast. 23 high school students escaped injury this afternoon when their bus crashed on the roosevelt boulevard extension near wissahickon avenue. police say the wires on the bus were burning the driver's legs and caused him to lose control of the vehicle. it crashed into a pole. the bus is owned by the may bus company. police in bucks county investigate the hit and run crash into a home in bristol township and the subsequent death of a 93-year-old woman inside. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live. we know the truck's owner has turned himself in. will police hold the driver responsible in the death of the woman? >> reporter: well, we're told it's a possibility, jim. it will be the d.a.'s call and we checked with d.a. david heckler about that. he said it's being looked to at this point but still no decision has been made yet. now, the 20-year-old owner of the truck has been here for a number of hours. he came voluntarily. we understand he will be allowed to go home tonight, no charges are going to be filed. we are told he is apparently very upset about what has occurred here. but before anybody can be charged were with anything here. authorities have to be certain who was at the wheel that of truck overnight. the big break today when a bristol borough sergeant spotted the red ram pickup truck parked in the 500 block of bath street. fresh damage to the right front and side could be clearly seen on the vehicle. >> we came with the parts from the scene, matched the parts to the vehicle, it's definitely the vehicle. >> reporter: police say the red pickup created these deep tracks as it slammed into the back bedroom of this levittown house overnight. inside elderly jenny russo was under hospice care. as the truck roared off russo's son rushed to his mom. >> i see the dresser ready to fall on top of her. there was cold hair coming in. there was a gaping hole in the air. had to get that cold air to stop so i picked her up put her into my bedroom which is the next room over so there was warmth in there. >> reporter: ron russo says his mom was frail, only 58 pounds. arriving firefighters moved her bed into the warmer living room. her son thinks the circumstances of this morning may have hastened her death. >> we moved her twice and it was too much for her. and we laid her in there. about an hour after that, she passeddism friends and neighbors offered condolences at the left town house where in the 1950's jenny russo and her husbands raised two sons. in later years russo was active in organizing senior citizen trips. two of her granddaughters remembered her today as loving and always well dressed. >> she always liked to get dressed up and like she always liked her jewelry, made sure she looked perfect and she was always dressed to the nine's. >> reporter: her family says jenny russo lived an active long life driving until not long ago. she turned 93 today. today, december 26th her birth day. live in bristol township, john rawlins channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, john. delaware state police are investigating a deadly industrial accident at a wilmington delaware landfill this afternoon. authorities say a heavy machinery on that operator at the cherry island lands fill struck an item while backing up. the victim is 42 year old jose luis garcia hernandez of newark. accuweather is giving us all a gift on this day after christmas with a gorgeous day in the tri-state area and the start of the weekend will be terrific as well. let's go live to meteorologist melissa magee for the latest information from accuweather. melissa. >> jim, it has been beautiful on this friday. as you mentioned we had plenty of sunshine and now overhead right now we've got a mostly clear sky and quiet conditions overhead. these temperatures are pretty comfortable for this time of year. philadelphia 44. trenton 42 degrees. up in the poconos 35 along the coast in beach haven 42. the lower 40's in sea isle city. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. not a cloud in the sky across the delaware and lehigh valleys at least we are staying mostly clear and quiet for the rest of tonight. so, if you're stepping out on the town we've got you covered with that evening planner. 7 o'clock that temperature around 45 degrees. it's mostly clear at 8 o'clock tonight with that temperature dropping down to 43. 42 at 9 o'clock and that's our average high for this time of year. 10 o'clock we'll drop down to 41. so we'll talk about what's ahead. it's quiet but it's chilly this evening. we've got a bit of a 50-50 split as far as our weekend is concerned. these temperatures will stay mild but for the second half of the weekend, we're tracking some precipitation in the form of some light rain showers. we'll take a look at all of those details and when you know when that dose of reality comes too with that accuweather 7-day, jim. >> thank you melissa. after two months at sea the coast guard cutter depend dabble returned to its home port in cape may today. the cutter patrol florida and the caribbean looking for drug smugglers and rescuing migrants in overloaded vessels. since last year the dependable has confiscated over $25 million if cocaine but today the focus was on seeing loved ones again. >> actual al couple days earlier than expected. we had great weather falling seas gave us extra speed and allowed us to be home just after the holiday. >> dependable's commander said the crew enjoyed a feast made by the ship's cooks. everybody is looking forward to that first home cooked meal. police officers at the shore got some support today from local community leaders. atlantic city mayor don guardian joined other officials at a rally outside boardwalk hall. he thanked his office for connecting with the community through the police athletic league and dozens of volunteer efforts. after the rally several hundred people marched down the boardwalk to say thank you to the police. this was the scene in new york city today as the casket of officer rafael ramos was taken into the christ tabernacle church in queens. ramos was one of the two law men ambushed and killed a week ago saturday in brooklyn. hundreds of uniformed officers attended the wake today and even more will be there for ramos' funeral tomorrow. ramos was a deeply committed member of the church and was studying to be a pastor. coming up on "action news" tonight, he strikes again. a serial bandit hits his sixth and seventh bank today. see if you recognize the man ripping off banks for weeks now. also striking a deal. we are out with after christmas shoppers in center city magee is back with the full weekend weather forecast. that and more when "action news" continues >> can you help find this man? the fbi and the philadelphia police say he's a serial bank bandit who struck not once but twice again today. his latest targets were the wells fargo at 52nd and jefferson in west philadelphia. these surveillance photos taken at 11:00 this morning. an hour and a half later cheltenham police it he robbed a pnc. on "action news" tuesday we were at pnc on the 5900 block of broad street minutes after police say the same man robbed that bank. investigators believe he's actually responsible for a total of five robberies and two attempted robberies this month. in each of the incidents the robber handed the teller a threatening demand note but did not show a weapon. if you have a tip for law enforcement, you are urged to call police. a reward may be available. just because christmas has come and gone doesn't mean the holiday retail season is over. let's go live to center city philadelphia and "action news" reporter annie mccormick. annie, what was it like in that part of town today? >> reporter: busy, busy, busy since noon today, center city has been packed and take a look behind me, jim. you can see that the line is starting to grow for people to jump on the rothman ice rink. they're waiting for the temperatures to actually drop. now, what brought people out here today was the shopping. those holiday returns but also this amazing weather. >> can't beat it, you know, good weather, good sales, saving money. >> reporter: shoppers sight zeros and friends and family enjoying holiday fun all converged on center city today. >> it's crazy. nice. >> philadelphia has become a little new york. got a lot of possible out here now. >> reporter: shoppers packing sidewalks hit new retail stores and visited the fixtures that keep comers coming back. the unseasonably warm weather is credited for today's boost in foot traffic. >> it's very packed. it's amazing today. much more than the whole christmas holiday. i wonder why. blue skies. >> reporter:. >> we went over to continental for lunch and then we had a couple cocktails. [laughter] >> just one. >> now we hit nordstrom's and then we'll see center city. >> reporter: little ram ma is here from dubai. we noticed a lost shoppers buying for themselves and avoiding the dreaded gift return lines. >> the returns it's not a problem for me. it's just standing in the lines when you want to get the things that you want to get. i don't like that part. >> reporter: and some skipping shopping altogether to take a ride around the rothman ice rink. and back out here live take a look at those people eating outside. i can think of the last time i ate outside at the end of december. the rothman ice rink is still opened for a couple hours if you want to grab your skates. it is never to cold to hit the ice. reporting live in center city, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." >> residents in one marlton new jersey neighborhood are looking for a christmas grinch tonight. a vandal who stole and broke some holiday lawn ornaments. a light up reindeer from one lawn was college in the pinstripe bowl. first year head coach james franklin he's of course very happy for his seniors. >> really want these guys to really go out on a positive note. you know, this bowl is a special bowl and they give rings out to everybody that participates in the bowl but there's a difference between being able to put bowl champion on your ring and that's what i want those twice to be able to remember, to send these seniors out the right way and be proud of what we accomplished this year. >> sixers in portland tonight trying to do something they haven't done since the last time 30th street station on this friday. we've got a bright blue sky overhead and maybe you're expecting someone is the train station today. you probably didn't have any weather related travel slowdowns. checking out the high temperatures across much of the area. as you look back the past couple days you have to ask yourself is this really december. well above normal. christmas eve a high of 64 degrees. christmas day 65. a little deceiving because that was reached shortly after midnight but throughout most of the day yesterday we had temperature in the 50. the high today in philadelphia coming in at 50 still 8 degrees above average. 44 in philadelphia right now. allentown 38. trenton 42. along the coast from beach haven also staying in the lower 40's. 35 degrees in the poconos. dover 44. here's satellite6 along with action radar. nice and quiet from new england to down across the midatlantic region as well. a few more clouds that are starting to build across areas in the ohio valley. those clouds will stay away from our region for the rest of tonight so it's mostly clear to partly cloudy and high pressure is situated over the southern states, that high stays in control tomorrow. here's the setup for us on our saturday. warm for december still. high pressure is in control so you tap into those west to southwesterly winds. overhead tomorrow for the high temperature in the city, 55 degrees. plenty of sunshine. that's a good 13 degrees above average. we're tracking this cold front that will move through as we get into late sunday afternoon and with that some wet changes on the way for the second half of our weekend. future tracker 6 showing you 9:30 in the morning on sunday it's mostly cloudy and that moisture starts to break out from a west-east direction up through the poconos and across our northwest suburbs. as we get into noon on sunday you can see some of that moisture overspedding the delaware and lehigh valleys. there's not a lost precipitation with this. this cold front is moisture starved oh there will be light rain showers overhead. it moves out fairly quickly. call from accuweather for the rest of tonight clear, chilly, saturday enjoy it, mostly sunny, mild, high temperature up to 55. on sunday still warm up to 50 degrees but mostly cloudy. we're tracking that rain that develops late in the day on sunday. on monday, a few lingering showers early in the morning. we'll clear out by about eight, 9 o'clock on monday. otherwise, clearing with a high temperature of 40. brisk and colder on tuesday, 38 new year's eve, some sunshine chilly 33. cold for the mummers day parade, jim, on thursday with a high temperature then of just 36. >> it's good when it's cold for the mummers day parade. >> they like it. >> new year's day. all
