i've got to tell you if your last minute plans have you coming to the mall right now, i've got bad news, it's closing as we speak. we'll give you a live look at the scene right here. what you're seeing are the remnants of a super busy day at the cherry hill mall. to put it best for procrastinators today was your super bowl. yes, it's christmas eve and yes, the malls were filled with stressed out people trying to finish off their christmas lists but in the middle of all the chaos you can still find the little things that make christmas so wonderful. >> for christmas i expect to get a puppy. >> reporter: a puppy? wow you must have been really good this year. >> and i'm really excited for christmas because it's my favorite holiday. >> reporter: that's not to say everyone is feeling the magic. we still found many of last minute shoppers who were stressed out. >> i am feeling the pressure. like it's getting a little deep now. >> got to get two more things i'm out of here and i'm trying to get out of here really fast. >> reporter: who are you buying for? >> my mom and my dad they're the last two people. >> reporter: we found undercover santas over at walgreens down the street from the mall. >> i'm getting her headphones for nighttime tv 'cause her husband can't stand her watching tv after night. >> reporter: this was the only place that has it. >> i hope they have it. didn't get that far yet. >> reporter: for felicia of cinnaminson the real wonder of the season is wrapped up in introducing her three month old and three-year-old grandsons to the big man himself. >> we made an appointment to see santa and we're going to be there and this is going to be exciting for him. >> reporter: i was given the opportunity to take that magical ride myself to the north pole and squeeze in a few requests as well. as the good little boys and girls of the delaware valley did the same. >> what do you want for christmas. >> a play pike phone. >> is that it. >> uh-huh. >> reporter: that kid was so cute it hurt. so, once again most of the major malls in our area close at 6:00 but if you're still in a bind some of the chain pharmacies like the walgreens we showed that you are opened 24 hours even through christmas. reporting live from cherry hill, walter perez, channel6 "action news." >> people were out early today stocking up on goods to fill their christmas tables. termini brothers bakery in south philadelphia always an essential stop. folks lined up just before the doors opened this morning and business was steady throughout the day but with a barista serving up coffee and a band providing christmas entertainment customers didn't mind waiting. let's go live to philadelphia international airport and "action news" reporter john rawlins speaking about waiting. john, clearly the weather has had an impact on this busy travel day. what is the situation there now? >> reporter: well, the delays persist. at this point probably a third of the flights still to go out of here are have got some sort of delay but they vary greatly. if you look behind me there's a flight headed for dayton ohio that's going to be two and a half late on the arrival side. an orlando flight four house late in arriving. those are outliars. most of the flights were on time and most of the delays were in the 20 to 40 minute delays. this woman and her little girl coming from rain soaked boston on time. >> it was fine. >> reporter: no delays. >> no delays. >> reporter: no delays. >> yup. >> reporter: because the flight from los angeles held on the ground by the faa because of weather conditions here. >> we were in ground hold for about 20 minutes. we were about 20 minutes late coming in. >> reporter: not too bad. >> not too late. we're still waiting for the bags. >> reporter: i did notice the belt stopped moving. >> belt stopped moving. it's been about 15, 20 minutes waiting for the bags. >> reporter: limited visibility and a low ceiling delayed departures delays ranged from a few minutes to more than an hour. oddly it helped it was christmas eve. unlike the day before thanksgiving it is not a huge travel day and airlines actually cut back on their number of flights. yours aye ways cut its schedule by 18 percent compared to a normal wednesday. >> a lot of flights yesterday and there's many flights this morning now in the afternoon and into the evening, they have been cut back. >> reporter: still tens of thousands traveled through philadelphia today. as for their plans for christmas. >> we're going to tampa and then we're staying in the florida area for two days and they we're going on a cruise. >> i'm going to go home and make cookies and eat ice cream. >> we'll be in the air flying to germany, to munich. >> reporter: to see family see family and vacation. >> reporter: well, that gentleman's flight to munich was on time up to a few minutes ago supposed to depart at 6:35 at gate a23. looks like it has been pushed back to a 7:00 p.m. departure. as we say the delays here at philadelphia international airport persist. live at philadelphia international airport, john rawlins channel6 "action news. jim. >> thank you john. we invite you to check out the new features that we have added to their storm tracker 6 app. you can now report your weather. just tap the icon matching your current conditions and add your own photograph. also share a digital postcard using a photograph from your mobile device. and select your favorite weather pic and share it with your family and friends. you can download or update your storm tracker 6 app right now to get these new features. other news at this hour, two people are in the hospital tonight after a vehicle crashed through the lobby at a nursing nome hockessin delaware. first responders were called to the coats bury village assisted facility before 3:30 this afternoon. an 89-year-old man was struck and pinned between the vehicle and a wall. he has been taken to the hospital in critical condition. another victim suffered minor injuries. two people in the vehicle refused treatment. they're okay. a man on a bicycle was struck and killed by a garbage truck in west chester this morning. the accident happened at 10 o'clock in the 700 block of east market street. police have not released the name of the victim. philadelphia police hope that tips from the public will help them find a driver who struck and killed a woman in the holmesburg section last night and then took off. 33-year-old theresa pozzi was struck by a tow truck or pickup truck as she crossed state road shortly after 5 o'clock. witnesses didn't stop -- i'm sorry. witnesses did stop to help but pozzi died a short time later at the hospital. an overturned dump truck on the vine street expressway in philadelphia shut down the highway for eight hours today. the crash happened at 5 o'clock this morning in the westbound lanes near 22nd street. a fuel tank on the truck ruptured and hazmat crews had to be called in. the 55-year-old driver suffered some injuries but is in stable condition. the vine street expressway reopened at 1 o'clock this afternoon. flags are flying at half-staff in mercer county tonight in honor of the new york city police officers who were ambushed last weekend. an executive order was issued today calling for the tribute at all county facilities through december 26th. nypd officers rafael ramos and wenjan liu were execute bide a man with a vendetta against police. this happened last saturday a funeral for ramos is scheduled for tomorrow and vice president joe biden is expected to attend. coming up on "action news" tonight, lisa thomas-laury introduces us to a little entrepreneur who created a product to help young cancer patients. it was quite a come back and wild end at the bahamas bowl. the what bowl? the bahamas bowl. jeff skversky has that story. melissa magee is back with the accuweather forecast when "action news" continues tonight. >> ♪ >> ♪ >> the first of the christmas eve masses at the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul in philadelphia ended just a short time ago. it is one of hundreds of churches holding services this evening to usher in christmas. the cathedral has another mass at 7:30 and of course the traditional vigil mass at midnight. delaware governor jack markell and first lady carla markel served some of the less fortunate today. they volunteered at the emanuel dining room in wilmington. the ministry of caring hosted this holiday meal. more than 500 meals have served at the emanuel dining room every day. members of nearly 100 churches synagogues and businesses and civic groups support this facility. an egg harbor township second grader has turned an unfortunate medical condition into her first business venture with the help of her grandmother. lisa thomas-laury has that story tonight. >> reporter: her name is sarai jackson a vivacious seven-year-old. >> i want to sell to little kids who have cancer and they can look beautiful. >> reporter: like you. she doesn't have cancer but two years ago her family noticed her hair was thinning, her eyebrows and lashes were shedding. she was diagnosed with alopecia or hair loss. >> i was afraid all of this was going come out but i'm afraid kids going to make fun of me. >> my concern was that she was able to function in second grade and not be bullied. >> reporter: her grandmother came up with the idea of hats with individual themes and human hair. it's the kiss see face collection named for what the family calls sari. there are kiss see face hats with blooped hair. >> this is the fun, umbrella, coconut water. and the blip flop. >> reporter: there are kiss see face hats for girls who like sports, kiss see faces for daughters with military families. for bikers and hats for dog lovers. you know why it's special for kids because they want to, you know, feel happy and feel good and feel beautiful in their hats like me. >> reporter: earlier this month grandmom and granddaughter the hats are soon be available in the hospitals gift shop. as for this pointer sized business woman. ly tell me about having your first business. >> it feels great. river down to atlantic city and cape may. there's another batch of moisture that will probably move through while you're sleeping during the overnight hours and after that we've got clearing for christmas. we'll show you the picture outside. sky 6 live in hd, the center city skyline on this wednesday evening and you can see we've got lots of clouds around and fog, mist and drizzle across the delaware and lehigh valleys. currently the visibility isn't bad in philadelphia coming in at 10 miles so not bad but still some issues north and west of town. trenton down to a half mile, same thing in the poconos. down to 3 miles in reading and one and a half miles there in allentown. the winds however will pick up as the moisture pulls away and that will clear out things as far as visibility is concerned. but it is late december and temperatures for the most part are in the 60's and 50's. it's 62 in philadelphia, 47 in the poconos, 58 in millville currently in dover coming in at 63. 60 in wilmington. so, 60-degree numbers in the month of december, they're rare but not unheard of. today we are calling for temperatures in the lower 60's really close to midnight i should say. 62 we had a temperature then in 2008 and in 1996 we had a temperature of 63. the record 64 on this date set back in 1990. so, future tracker 6 showing you as we get close to midnight and for midnight mass and for those services then, temperatures will be quite balmy, in the middle and lower 50's even though the lower 60's down across areas in south jersey. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. you can see all that heavy rain we had earlier today lifting off across areas in new england so still some leftover showers on the way for the rest of the evening hours and into early tonight. and as we get into the overnight hours you could see that cold front over the ohio valley, that moves through as we get into the overnight hours, then after that we'll clear out for christmas day. so future tracker 6 showing you around 12:30 in the morning you could see we still have a few leftover showers around. 3 o'clock in the morning some showers moving across areas in the poconos down through lancaster and once that front sweeps on through, you could see 8 o'clock christmas day clouds will break for some sunshine and then we'll get into some clearing. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight, some rain, some fog, near record warmth, temperatures will be in the 60's, so tomorrow's high is a little deceiving because i do think it's going to come close to midnight. then after that throughout the day on christmas day temperatures will be falling into the 50's. we'll break it down as we say merry christmas for those celebrating the holiday. sunshine, gusts up to 40 to 45 miles per hour. 9:00 a.m. the temperature in the lower 50's. same thing at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and the upper 40's as we get into 5 o'clock on christmas day. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. so, in the 60's around midnight. then we'll fall into the 50's on thursday. on friday sunny and nice, high temperature coming in at 50. on saturday still not bad. it is nice and mild. sunshine and clouds sharing the sky with a high temperature of 54. on sunday, it's cloudy and mild and at 50 degrees and some late day rain is likely on sunday. so when that front comes on through monday it's cloudy and much cooler with a high temperature coming in at 42 degrees. on tuesday, clouds and some sunshine. coming in at 40 degrees and then wednesday that seems more appropriate for the month of december. it's turning colder with a high temperature of just 36 degrees. so, all in all we are tracking that rain. we've seen anywhere from three-quarters of an inch to mower an inch and a half of rain, jim the bahamas bowl. jeff skversky has that story. melissa magee is back with the accuweather forecast when "action news" continues tonight. >> ♪ >> ♪ >> the first of the christmas eve masses at the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul in philadelphia ended just a short time ago. it is one of hundreds of churches holding services this evening to usher in christmas. the cathedral has another mass at 7:30 and of course the traditional vigil mass at midnight. delaware governor jack markell and first lady carla markel served some of the less fortunate today. they volunteered at the emanuel dining room in wilmington. the ministry of caring hosted this holiday meal. more than 500 meals have served at the emanuel dining room every day. members of nearly 100 churches synagogues and businesses and civic groups support this facility. an egg harbor township second grader has turned an unfortunate medical condition into her first business venture with the help of her grandmother. lisa thomas-laury has that story tonight. >> reporter: her name is sarai jackson a vivacious seven-year-old. >> i want to sell to little kids who have cancer and they can look beautiful. >> reporter: like you. she doesn't have cancer but two years ago her family noticed her hair was thinning, her eyebrows and lashes were shedding. she was diagnosed with alopecia or hair loss. >> i was afraid all of this was going come out but i'm afraid kids going to make fun of me. >> my concern was that she was able to function in second grade and not be bullied. >> reporter: her grandmother came up with the idea of hats with individual themes and human hair. it's the kiss see face collection named for what the family calls sari. there are kiss see face hats with blooped hair. >> this is the fun, umbrella, coconut water. and the blip flop. >> reporter: there are kiss see face hats for girls who like sports, kiss see faces for daughters with military families. for bikers and hats for dog lovers. you know why it's special for kids because they want to, you know, feel happy and feel good and feel beautiful in their hats like me. >> reporter: earlier this month grandmom and granddaughter the hats are soon be available in the hospitals gift shop. as for this pointer sized business woman. ly tell me about having your first business. >> it feels great. the eagles have a game with the giants on sunday. >> and nothing real to play for although don't say that to chip kelly. chip kelly preparing for the giants and nothing else. the eagles coach is not prepared to name a starting quarterback for next season. kelly is not ready to answer those questions as to whether or not nick foles is the qb of the future. mark sanchez will start his eighth straight game in the finale sunday against the giants but what about beyond? foles missed nearly half the season with a collarbone injury and he had 13 turnovers this season but he was six and two. fair or not chip will re-evaluate foles when the season is all said and done. >> for me to stand here on wednesday the day before christmas to say i've made a full evaluation at quarterback is not fair to anybody and we have a process we go through. i'll watch every single game, every decision that everybody made in every position before we make legitimate decisions in terms of what we do and i don't think it's fair to any player or anything to say yeah, let's make a decision on what we'll do for the rest of the year. >> eagles fans and experts had called chip kelly a genius. well chip is not being paid too many compliments not after one of the worst regular season collapses in nfl history. espn's ron jaworski has more. >> ♪ >> chip kelly is an outstanding football coach. the nfl is big boy football. and you adapt and you adjust every single week and every single season. and i think you're now beginning to understand in the nfl you just can't throw the ball out there and say here's what we're going to do and play the game. you've got to adapt,off got to adjust and he's a brilliant coach and i believe he will. i think these last three games will have taught chip kelly something about the national football league and i know how much he respects the game and i know how much he respects his opponents but there's a maturity that comes with being an nfl coach and chip from these last few weeks i believe will learn an awful lot about himself, his coaching staff and his football team that will bode well for the future. >> all right, jaws. finally one of the most ridiculous comebacks you will ever see today down at the bahamas bowl. central michigan down 35 with 12 to go. and they come back against western kentucky. no time left, final play, central michigan quarterback copper ross to jessie crowell. three laterals. six different players can touch the ball. they score 34 straight points unreal. they're down one. all they need to do is kick an extra point to force overtime. they decide to go for two and the win. they blow it. after all of that, central michigan loses to western kentucky by one. all this game was missing was that stanford band to run in there. >> thank you jeff. christmas spirit is burning bright at a home in newark delaware. linda mitchell has 30 degrees and more than 300 music boxes, snow globes and other holiday figurines. some ornaments are real antiques. this fish or that fish was from 1924. mitchell began with several trees, 25 years ago to boost her spirits at this time of year but now friends and coworkers come to her christmas day. we'll talk about the details. storm tracker 6 live double scan radar showing you the heavy rain already starting to move out. just some light leftover showers across the shore from toms river down to atlantic city and cape may. there's another batch of moisture that will probably move through while you're sleeping during the overnight hours and after that we've got clearing for christmas. we'll show you the picture outside. sky 6 live in hd, the center city skyline on this wednesday evening and you can see we've got lots of clouds around and fog, mist and drizzle across the delaware and lehigh valleys. currently the visibility isn't bad in philadelphia coming in at 10 miles so not bad but still some issues north and west of town. trenton down to a half mile, same thing in the poconos. down to 3 miles in reading and one and a half miles there in allentown. the winds however will pick up as the moisture pulls away and that will clear out things as far as visibility is concerned. but it is late december and temperatures for the most part are in the 60's and 50's. it's 62 in philadelphia, 47 in the poconos, 58 in millville currently in dover coming in at 63. 60 in wilmington. so, 60-degree numbers in the month of december, they're rare but not unheard of. today we are calling for temperatures in the lower 60's really close to midnight i should say. 62 we had a temperature then in 2008 and in 1996 we had a temperature of 63. the record 64 on this date set back in 1990. so, future tracker 6 showing you as we get close to midnight and for midnight mass and for those services then, temperatures will be quite balmy, in the middle and lower 50's even though the lower 60's down across areas in south jersey. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. you can see all that heavy rain we had earlier today lifting off across areas in new england so still some leftover showers on the way for the rest of the evening hours and into early tonight. and as we get into the overnight hours you could see that cold front over the ohio valley, that moves through as we get into the overnight hours, then after that we'll clear out for christmas day. so future tracker 6 showing you around 12:30 in the morning you could see we still have a few leftover showers around. 3 o'clock in the morning some showers moving across areas in the poconos down through lancaster and once that front sweeps on through, you could see 8 o'clock christmas day clouds will break for some sunshine and then we'll get into some clearing. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight, some rain, some fog, near record warmth, temperatures will be in the 60's, so tomorrow's high is a little deceiving because i do think it's going to come close to midnight. then after that throughout the day on christmas day temperatures will be falling into the 50's. we'll break it down as we say merry christmas for those celebrating the holiday. sunshine, gusts up to 40 to 45 miles per hour. 9:00 a.m. the temperature in the lower 50's. same thing at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and the upper 40's as we get into 5 o'clock on christmas day. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. so, in the 60's around midnight. then we'll fall into the 50's on thursday. on friday sunny and nice, high temperature coming in at 50. on saturday still not bad. it is nice and mild. sunshine and clouds sharing the sky with a high temperature of 54. on sunday, it's cloudy and mild and at 50 degrees and some late day rain is likely on sunday. so when that front comes on through monday it's cloudy and much cooler with a high temperature coming in at 42 degrees. on tuesday, clouds and some sunshine. coming in at 40 degrees and then wednesday that seems more appropriate for the month of december. it's turning colder with a high temperature of just 36 degrees. so, all in all we are tracking that rain. we've seen anywhere from three-quarters of an inch to mower an inch and a half of rain, jim
