"action news" reporter bob brooks has been talking to vacationers and business owners and joins us now live from wildwood tonight. hey, bob. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. just because it was a little gloomy out today didn't mean people couldn't go out ride some rides with family, eat some great food and just spend great quality time with them. proof that of just behind me at wildwood on the boardwalk just an amazing view. it's turned out to be a beautiful day and look at that sky. you see all of those kites up there flying so high in the air, people still down here trying to get those last few hours of fun. good rides, games, food and of course family. from all that we can gather despite that inclement weather it's been a memorial day weekend to remember down at the shore. as of 2 o'clock, this was the scene in wildwood. riding rides, the boardwalk was packed. if you think everyone forgot memorial day weekend is almost over. you guys having fun. >> we are. >> reporter: up in ocean city the lifeguards had it made getting paid and just about no one in the water. but the boardwalk as busy as ever. instead of going into the water people seemed to have that good food on their mind. from this couple who wore matching jean outfits eating monkey bread. >> it's morning keel bread. melted carmel pretzel flavored. pretty awesome. >> reporter: to old fashioned funnel cake they weren't letting rain and clouds ruin their memorial day. what's the best thing you've done so far. >> eating candy. >> reporter: that's fine. what about you. >> fidget spinnersism,. >> reporter: fidget spinners. and you. >> everything. >> reporter: another live look out here. we actually see some people coming off the beach down here at wildwood. it actually turned out to be quite a beautiful day out here and everyone we spoke to want to give a sincere thank you to our service men and women. reporting live in wildwood bob brooks channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, bob, that's for sure, thank you. back to back services in philadelphia actually honored the local men and women who died at war. visitors reflected on those sacrifices today at the vietnam and korean veterans memorials on penn's landing. >> it's not just a holiday to have a day off. it's about remembering the men and women that are on these walls here, across the street. >> in medford, new jersey, wreaths were placed at the veterans monument on main street. a crowd gathered in the rain to watch the solemn tribute to those who gave their lives for our country and it was followed by a 21 gun salute. v.f.w. post 7677 hosted the event. [gunfire] >> ♪ >> the action cam was in bucks county for a patriotic parade in langhorne today. spectators were decked out in red white red white and blue. before the parade the crowd honored the fallen with a service at the american legion post on west richardson avenue. >> in other news philadelphia police are looking for a killer after two siblings were murdered in port richmond. florence pompey and her older brother were found dead yesterday inside their home. "action news"'s sarah bloomquist covering this story for us tonight from police headquarters. sarah. >> reporter: sharrie, homicide detectives are looking for surveillance video and tracking down leads as they try to figure out who murdered a woman and her brother in port richmond over the weekend. >> she was really loved. it's a shame that this had to happen to her. >> reporter: neighbors are mourning the death of a woman they will always remember as kind and generous. 49-year-old florence pompey known to many as miss tina was a fixture on her front step. the same spot where a small memorial now stands in the 1900 block of east clearfield in port richmond. >> i spoke to her every day every time i came down and up the block she was always either at the door or the steps and she was a loving person. like, it's still like hard to believe that someone would do something like that to another human being. >> reporter: pompey shared the home with her 54-year-old brother. their bodies were discovered sunday morning. both had suffered gunshot wounds to the head. he also sustained bullet wound to the stomach. >> something that i can't even imagine. out of all the people in the world i would have never thought that anything would be at miss tina's door like this. >> reporter: pompey attended church almost every day of the week and was a former foster parent. they started to suspect something might be wrong when they didn't see her coming or going over the weekend. >> my mother used to tell me they didn't hear nothing at all and last sunday they saw them -- last time they saw them it was a friday night. >> too close, you know, too close to home. she was so nice. she really was. she really was. >> reporter:. >> reporter: police are also waiting on the medical examiner to determine the exact time of death. that will help them to pin down when exactly these murders happened as they look for a suspect. live at police headquarters, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." >> all right, sarah, thank you for that report. a deadly stabbing is also under investigation in port richmond tonight. police released new details today about the attack which happened last evening on the 3400 block of frankford avenue. they say a 47 yield man walked into a 57-year-old man's apartment assaulted him with a metal book end and repeatedly stabbed him with several knives. the victim said he was able to wrestle the 95 knife away and kill his attacker by stabbing him in the chest. police found him with multiple wounds and rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. >> police arrested tiger woods this morning on a dui charge. this is the mug shot taken after the golfer legend was booked into jail in palm beach county florida. he was released nearly four hours later on his own recognizance. police are not providing any details about the circumstances leading up to his arrest. the 14 time major champion is recovering from another back surgery and has not played golf in four months. >> well, after nearly 40 years in center city, little pete's diner is serving up its last meal tonight. patrons have been packing into the popular 24 hour restaurant at 17th and chancellor all day long. the restaurant is being forced to close to make way for a new hyatt hotel. it has been a center city staple since 1978. >> from the bottom of my heart i want to thank everybody for their support. if they came once a month, once a year, i want to thank everybody. i had good customers. >> the restaurant closes for good at 9 o'clock. the little pete's location in still watching this accident involving the overturned trash truck in west conshohocken. they're still out here cleaning up on the ramp from the blue route southbound to the schuylkill eastbound but at this point traffic can squeeze by on the shoulder. also investigating and cleaning up an earlier accident on the pennsylvania-new jersey turnpike connector. that's a better bet than the burlington bristol bridge which is wrapping up an opening for a northbound ship and yes, indeed, coming back from the should it has been busy all day since about 9 o'clock this morning and delays linger even now although they're not quite as bad, still heavy on the northbound garden state parkway from the new great egg harbor bridge up to the work zone at the a.c. expressway. coming out of sea isle and avalon getting slow speeds on 83 over to 47 in south dennis. when 47 and 347 come back together near port elizabeth some single digit speeds headed up towards 55, just 9 miles per hour. and nine the best by the dover toll plaza along highway one northbound. stop and go from milford up to frederica again from the dover tolls up to cheswold and smyrna to odessa we're not done with all the traffic coming government wants to make those parents pay a $2,800 fine. >> ♪ >> and ready, aim, fire. >> war veterans performed a 21 gun salute. that was one of several tops in the town's 77th annual memorial day motorcade. they also paid tribute to the fallen in media today. the crowds braved the wet weather to support the long running parade. katherine scott takes us to the patriotic procession on state street. >> ♪ >> reporter:. the memorial day parade in media stepped off this morning, the rain not dampening the mood of the spectators. from the roaring lyons of penncrest high school, the waving girl scouts fancy cars and the local fire companies the route was packed with fun for spectators. many decked out in red white and blue, toting gear for the wet weather. but through the flash and festivities even some of the youngest marchers remember why they're here. >> honor the veterans who fought in wars who have died. >> go left. >> reporter: many also take the time to honor the service men and women who lived, some of them marching today. the mayor of media explains this is one of their many events throughout the year honoring veterans. >> media is known as a veterans community. back in the 60's and 70's, this was a place people came when they were leaving for vietnam. they sent them on their way, they greeted them when they came back. >> reporter: whether you're on the parade route or elsewhere, spectators and veterans alike agree, the important thing is to take the time to reflect. >> memorial day is specifically for the people who died in battle and it is a terrific way to remember and honor their memory. >> this is the way that i think all of america takes time out from everything else that they're doing and they concentrate on that one thing that there were over a million men and women who have lost their lives in all of america's wars. >> reporter: there was a great showing for memorial day parade today but there's even bigger parade here in media for veterans day so they'll be going up for that in a matter of months. in media, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> the rain stopped just in time for croydon's memorial day parade in bucks county. >> (sirens). >> reporter:. >> fire truck sirens blared as the parade made its way through town. these lucky kids got to ride on top and toss out candy to the folks below. the band from harry truman high school also entertained the crowd along with a group of mummers in their fancy costumes, there they are. children decorated their bikes and took part in the festivities. we even saw a chicken who was enjoying the parade. 6abc is helping put a little more love in your memorial day. prime time tonight kicks off with an all new episode of the bachelorette. the group dates continue with rachel and her 23 potential suitors and this week they take on a sports theme as the remaining men continue to angle for some one-on-one time and the opportunity to win over rachel's heart. image was taken days before he bombed an ariana grande concert last week. the blue suitcase in the picture was not part of the attack but police are trying to find out if it will help in their investigation. they spent the day searching for evidence in a landfill north of manchester and they arrested a 23-year-old man on the south coast of england. a total of 14 men are now in custody in britain for their alleged roles in that deadly attack. the world's most prescribed medication may be its most overprescribed. the drug is designed to increase low thyroid hormone levels but experts at the mayo clinic say most patients really don't need it. they say the symptoms of under active thyroid are vague and similar to other conditions. once patients are on the drug most doctors never check back to see if their symptoms really improve. >> and that is the key is to reassess. the majority of patients get treated and never really have a chance to withdraw the medicine reason they get treated forest of their lives. >> patients on thyroid medicine should be checked three months after they start it. >> one country is cracking down on parents who don't vaccinate their children. germany will pass a law this week tightening up their rules. the new law encourages kindergarten administrators to inform authorities if parents don't provide evidence that they've talked to a doctor about vaccines and parents refusing vaccinations could be fined up to $2,800. a decline in immunizations have caused spikes in diseases like measles and chicken pox in europe. >> another check of the sky6 taking a look at city hall dillworth park and not a lot of people playing in the fountains there cooling off. we've got mother nature cooling us off today. you'll notice, though, everything is really green. we've had more than 6-inches of rain this month. normal rainfall for the entire month, 3.7-inches, so we can really turn off the spigots. i'm tracking more showers and thunderstorms this week. allentown 62, cape may 63, trenton 60 and women wilmington 65. we're seeing a little bit of brightening in the skies, parts of delaware and south jersey once the sun sets the clouds will fill back in with some fog and drizzle overnight. overnight lows not dropping much from where they are right now. 58 degrees in philadelphia, allentown and trenton 54, cape may 57 and wilmington 56 degrees. tomorrow stuck in the clouds again. if we're lucky, we could see a fuel breaks of sunshine late in the afternoon but generally it will be a mostly cloudy day. temperatures again on the cool side. normal high for this time of the year 78. we will struggle to make it up to 70 degrees. so, future tracker showing in the morning plenty of clouds. perhaps a few showers across kent county, delaware. cape may as that warm front tries to lift to the north it essentially just falls apart and then late in the afternoon, early in the evening, a few peeks of sunshine but then we've got another front moving from from the west so that will bring a chance of some of showers and thunderstorms generally north of philadelphia, the lehigh valley, the poconos and then behind this system we get a wind shift. finally instead of in easterly flow pulling in the clouds, future tracker showing wednesday afternoon we get a westerly wind. that will clear us out, bring us some sunshine, 81 in philadelphia, by 1:30 in the afternoon, 78 in reading, still a little bit cool along the shore, wildwood with that wind off the bay, 65 degrees. and then we get another front that rolls through late on wednesday with another round of showers and thunderstorms. tomorrow mostly cloudy perhaps a few late peeks of sunshine, thunderstorms late in the afternoon early in the evening to the north, a high of 70. wednesday back to warmer air, 81 degrees, some late thunderstorms with that next front. that cools us off to 77. but it will be dry, partly sunny as we start june on thursday. friday another warm day ahead of our next front, 83 degrees, increasing clouds. friday night some showers and thunderstorms and that sets the stage for an unsettled start to the weekend. saturday more showers and happening on "action news" this evening. a nation remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the armed forces. and rainy weather meanwhile did not dampen the fun as thousands of people in our area turned out for parades. a teenager shot in the leg overnight. coming up who police are now searching for. but the big story on "action news" is the memorial day holiday. memorial day isn't about beach trips and cookouts but remembering and honoring our fallen heroes. the reminders of the true mean of the holiday across the nation including virginia where president trump marked memorial day at arlington national cemetery. abc's megan hughes is live in washington, d.c. tonight with a look at some of today's somber events. megan. >> reporter: rick, good afternoon. that's right, president trump dap staying on script out of the political fray while he was interacting with grieving families. >> thank you. >> reporter: gold star families lining up at arlington national cemetery to tell president trump their story. >> he's looking down he's very proud. >> thank you so much. >> and if you could remember just jimmy, that would mean so much to me. >> reporter: trump seemed to put behind him that campaign feud with the kahn family muslim american gold star parents. >> every gold star family god is with you. >> reporter: trump laying a wreath observing a moment of silence and honoring the fallen. >> ♪ >> reporter: while across the country from the hill of flags at boston common to the motorcycle group rolling thunder to upstate new york signs of sacrifice. hillary clinton parading with her husband wouldn't talk politics. >> i think it's important to honor everyone who sacrificed their lives in pursuit of our rights our values our freedoms. >> reporter: vice president mike pence welcoming a group of wounded warriors and first responders on bicycles at his home. >> this is a day we remember those hoop served and did not come home. >> reporter: and on board the u.s.s. intrepid in new york city a 100-foot american flag, a rifle salute and a raw sense of loss after a navy s.e.a.l.'s parachute failed to open during a fleet week jump over the hudson river just yesterday. >> this has been a fleet week that started with such joy, fleet weekends, it ends with deep, deep sorrow. >> reporter: at that event on board the intrepid a special thank you to jersey city first responders for their efforts to help that navy s.e.a.l. in washington, megan hughes, channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> okay, thank you so much. well, of course this is memorial day and one of the largest parades in our area was held in the city's bridesburg section. it was a jam packed event despite the rainy weather. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes was there as parade goers of all ages took the time to remember our nation's fallen service members. >> ♪ >> reporter: the overcast skies matched the somber mood of dozens in bridesburg who came out to honor those who paid the ultimate price, the placing of the wreath took place in the most holy redeemer cemetery. the parade was first held in the mid 19 40's considered philadelphia's oldest parade. the young and young at heart enjoyed the high school marching bands spring bands mid century cars local girl scout troops and veterans. >> generations. my great grandchildren. >> my and grandson. >> my great grandchildren. >> that's what you like to see the young guys. old guys will be out there regardless. to see them bring out their kids and explain to the kids exactly what this day means. >> reporter: 98-year-old veteran albert knows full well the purpose behind all of this. >> it's so important because we take care of looking after all our vets, those that are gone and those that are about to go. >> today is a day to remember all of these people who served and they all fought for our country but since they fought for our country i feel so bad for the people who lost their lives and i just want to give them a big thank you for serving. >> reporter: as for today's dreary weather, it did little to dampen the cherished tradition. >> the post 1,000 of the american legion held its annual memorial day service of remembrance. veterans boy scouts members of local churches attended the somber event at the war memorial day in alden to honor those who lost their lives while serving in the armed forces. during the ceremony, members of area veterans motorcycle clubs gave a 21 gun salute to the fallen service members. in burlington county, a crowd turned out for the annual memorial day parade here. folks lining the route as they edgewater park beverly parade wound its way through the streets delighting the crowds and even the kids and the dogs. the parade came to an end near the beverly national cemetery where the rows of graves are a reminder of what today is all about. >> in our case we lost our brother and we make it a point to come visit and make sure he's remembered. >> over 49,000 veterans and their families are buried in this cemetery. >> time for a check to see how the traffic is moving on this holiday. >> for that we go top matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. hasn't been a holiday for you matt, that's for sure. >> busy since about 9 o'clock this morning. a lot of people have been coming back from the beach and dealing with backups on the way. they linger although they're getting a tad better here on the garden garden state parkway northbound. now the jam starts approaching somers point up to the work zone at the a.c. expressway. deptford township traffic is loosening up along 42 and northbound. coming away from cape may, wildwood stone harbor still hitting slow speeds on 47 northbound and southbound. that's where 83 comes in and then farther along where 347 and 47 come back together near port elizabeth speeds like 14 and 12 miles per hour getting onto 55. this is the scene by dover downs. dover toll plaza here on highway one, it's starting to look better on the northbound side but still sluggish speeds from milford up to frederica and then again from the dover tolls the whole way up to odessa. just a sluggish pace not stopped like it was. traffic is getting by on this ramp in west conshohocken from the blue route southbound to the schuylkill eastbound. earlier overturned trash truck is gone but restrictions remain. rick and sharrie back to you. >> matt thank you again. >> the search is on for two people in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old in southwest philadelphia. the victim told police he was walking along the 1100 block of south 52nd street with a friend around 10 o'clock last night. that's when he says two men approached, pulled out handguns and tried to rob them. several shots were fired and the victim was shot in the leg. police say that many person was taken to penn presbyterian medical center for treatment. he has since been released. well, peco crews spent the day repairing a transformer and a pole in the lawncrest section of philadelphia after both of them caught fire. well, this was the scene around 11:00 this morning on whitaker avenue and folcroft street. both streets were blocked off because of downed wires. a piece of a wooden pole became tangled up in some of the wires at one point nearly 1400 people were without power but that has all since been restored. no word on what caused the transformer to catch fire in the first place. >> still to come on "action news" tonight two men were killed a number wounded for defending a stranger on a train in portland. why the victims are being called heroes tonight. >> and the famed golfer tiger woods finds himself in legal trouble this holiday weekend. melissa. >> and symptoms. >> a zoo in england was evacuated today after police say a tiger inside the zoo killed a female zookeeper. officials at the zoo park blame the zookeeper's death on a freak accident. the tiger never escaped from the enclosure and police said foul play was not suspected in the keeper's death. the zoo will remain closed until wednesday while the investigation continues. three men were stabbed, two of them killed when they tried to come to the aid of a muslim woman and her friend on a train in portland oregon. police say 35-year-old jeremy christian an alleged white supremacist began verbally assaulting the women. that's when police say 23-year-old and a 53-year-old army veteran rick best and 21-year-old michael fletcher stepped in to try to restrain christian. police say christian then stabbed all three men. fletcher was the only survivor >> i need my friend. >> abc affiliate katu obtained this video which appears to show christian yelling profanities and hate speech on the train just one day before that attack. the fbi has not yet said if this attack qualifies as a federal hate crime. christian now faces multiple murder charges. >> high time now for sports. ducis he was arrested early this morning in jupiter florida for suspicion of driving under the influence. here's his mug shot that is making its way around the internet. woods was arrested around 3 a.m. booked into a local journalism he was released before 11:00 on his own recognizance. woods is out of action as he rehabs from a back injury. voluntary workouts for the:the looming question will fletcher cox show up. the defensive tackle missed last week's session. again these are voluntary but coach pederson expressed his displeasure. cox is post a picture on one of his and social media parade featured marching bands antique cars military vehicles and more. a massive american flag was marched down the parade route as other vehicles were decked out with smaller versions of the flag. a coming in at 58. so, for the rest of tonight, mostly cloudy, patchy fog and areas of drizzle, especially with that easterly wind. we'll drop down to 54 in the suburbs and 58 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low. something to keep in mind for our coastal communities. there's a coastal flood advisory from seaside heights down to cape may in new jersey on westward into bowers beach and rehoboth beach, minor flooding is a concern at the time of high tide and the ocean high tide between 11:30 and 12:30 a.m., the back bays will be a little later in the overnight hours. this stays up until 4:00 a.m. on tuesday. so, the setup for us on our tuesday, tomorrow mostly cloudy, an evening shower or thunderstorm, the best bet of finding that activity looks to be north and west of the 95 corridor. otherwise another cool day, a high temperature in philadelphia only 70, 69 in allentown, at the boardwalk 64, 73 degrees the high temperature in dover. here's the setup for us for the middle half of our work week. we're tracking a front that will be moving through. so, as it pulls in wednesday we'll actually warm up to 81 degrees, a partly sunny sky, that's a good looking day. late wednesday night we're tracking showers and storms as this fronts across the great lakes works eastward. once that front clears high pressure returns and we've got a beautiful start to the first day of june on thursday. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast showing you tomorrow we've got a mostly cloudy sky, a late day peek of sun. otherwise, a high temperature in at 70 and a shower or thunderstorm is likely north and west of philadelphia as we get into tuesday night. otherwise, another cool day and below average. on wednesday it's a warmer day, up to 81 for a high with a late shower or thunderstorm overhead and once that front moves on through, we'll clear out. so, a nice day on thursday with a high pressure of 77, sunshine and clouds sharing the sky. on friday, it's warm, up to 83 for a high but late friday, those clouds will increase, we're tracking some showers and storms and looks to be a wet start to the first weekend in june. on saturday showers and storms, a high temperature in at 77. clouds and a little bit of sunshine on sunday in at 75 degrees and next monday, partly sunny with a high temperature of 75. so, we're still tracking the clouds tomorrow. the sun international flights may be expanded. homeland security secretary john kelly says he's considering banning laptops from the passenger cabins of all international flights to and from the united
