to an inch in spots and it would stick given that temperatures remain below freezing the entire day and everyone, even if you don't see the snow showers the winds howl overnight tonight and the temperatures will plummet by tomorrow morning. in fact, windchills by tomorrow morning 4 below in philadelphia 7 below in reading and 5 below in wilmington and 5 below in mt. pocono and in the even have identified the man that was stabbed and killed by a co-worker at a meat processing plant. danny vazquez was stabbed this morning at the jbs meat packing facility in franconia township. the windchills, what i have to show you is not to be mean or to be cruel. we are looking at denver colorado, they have four days this month in the 70s with the highest being 74 degrees and what typically happens on the west coast it's like a seesaw denver running almost 11 degrees above normal for the month of february and las vegas 11 degrees warmer and salt lake city utah, nearly 16 degrees warmer than average and head to the east coast temperatures bombed out philadelphia 7.7 below boston 12 degrees below the normal and new york city so far this month nearly 10 degrees below normal. the numbers have come up and we got excited today that we got close to freezing 28 in allentown and 26 in dover. but yet another arctic boundary is about to push in. and there you can see some of the snow showers near state college and east of washington as this progresses to the east it's going to generally fall apart. and some of us could be clipped by snow showers and future tracker at 7:30 shows near lancaster and reading and it's a few more hours away in the western suburbs and 10:00 in and around philadelphia if you get hit by one of them a possible coating or an inch and many of us won't even see these snow showers and they are gone by midnight, 1:00 a.m. but if you encounter these snow showers they are scattered but heavy and they could create brief low visibility. and the numbers drop back to the teens by tomorrow morning but the brutal winds whip up to near 40 miles per hour tomorrow morning so the windchill factor at the bus stop tomorrow will be between 0 and 10 below 0, you need to layer the kids and the next five days not much improvement come friday morning, we are forecasting a low of 1, that is a 21 year chill that we have not felt in philadelphia during the entire winter season, 18 degrees by friday afternoon and windchills friday morning near 20 below zero in the suburbs and then we warm to near 50 on sunday and saturday is a dry day and snow and sleet all the democratic candidates. >> it's beautiful but a dangerous part of winter iced over lakes ponds and river this rescue in monmouth county new jersey is part of the risk of walking on ice. rescuers got to this victim in time. walter perez is outside of an ice rescue training center in allentown. >> reporter: rescue officials say there are several precautions you can take before going snowshoeing or ice fishing or hockey or whatever on a frozen lake pond or river they stress there is no such thing as completely safe conditions on frozen water. >> stay off the ice all together. >> allentown fire captain says the risk you take on walking on a frozen body of water is dangerous. >> there is no way to tell where the weak point is. there are ways to make sure you are as safe as can be expected. if you cannot escape the allure of a pickup ice hockey game, make sure people know what are you doing and one designated to call 911 if someone falls through and favor ice that is monitored by local authorities there are some lakes and ponds checked for ice density. and they will notify the public by how safe or unsafe conditions are. and ice density is not consistent on a frozen lake or pond just because it's thick where are you standing doesn't mean it's thick a few feet away if you have ever found yourself in a frozen body of water go against your instincts swim towards the dashness. >> ice reflects water people look up and swim towards the light that is the ice, the actual hole will look back and assuming you get to the surface, go horizontal. >> we have news" brought you yesterday, today we got a look inside of bear middle school in wilmington a broken sprinkler spilled water all over the place and they found nothing wrong with the system and believe the weather is to blame. >> it was not done because people were not being proactive. this was directly connected to the unusual weather conditions. >> the school has shut down for the rest of the week and students will have to make up three days over their spring break in april no word on how much fixing the damage will cost. >> at least nine people including a baby were forced out of their north philadelphia homes overnight because of a gas leak here. this is the scene before midnight on the 2700 block of north garnett street residents reported smelling gas and when firefighter as rived they evacuated the neighborhood. pgw crews got to work and found a ruptured 4 inch gas line and once the source was turned off and the gas dissipated. residents were allowed back in their homes. a philadelphia man accused of executing his co-worker while she waited for the bus will stand trial for murder. sanders waived his preliminary hearing, he admitted to killing jones, and this video shows sanders following jones and then shooting her. investigators say that jones was going to turn in sanders for allegedly taling $40 thus from the agency where they worked. and this surveillance video from inside of the store on the 100 block of east and the thief walked up to the counter gun in hand and demanded money the clerk handed over the cash drawer and cigarettes, fortunately the clerk was not hurt. well, it's a pretty crowded field in the race for philadelphia's next mayor vernon odom has a look at the democratic candidates tonight. >> reporter: nelson diaz has always been a trailblazer student activist in temple first hispanic judge in pennsylvania and now he is running to be the first latino mayor, promising more funds for schools and job contracts and safer streets. >> i want to make sure there is no profiling in our community, the stop and frisk has to follow the law which is suspicion and respect the dignity. >> after more than 20 years on city council, jim kenny has evacuated his seat and thrown in his hat for mayor. he voted the progressive line and he put together enough to win the -- i do think i'm uniquely qualified to listen to the chamber of commerce and organized labor at the same time and be the person in the middle. >> oliver was a pgw executive and he too is running on the jobs public safety boiler plate. >> our schools is number one and creating jobs in philadelphia is number two and doing it with an eye for fairness is number three, if we can solve the core problems the other problems will start to solve themselves. >> veteran state senator anthony williams has a large war chest and many of his proponents are charter schools. >> i did a lot of support public education period. i done believe you have to pick a traditional charter school or public school they are all public schools. >> and lynn abraham the legendary tough cookie and former hard line d.a. of philadelphia surrounded by staffers promising a firm steady hand to take a stand in the post nutter era. >> education job creation and safety and the security of our community and neighborhoods. those are the three things that resonate with everybody. >> north philadelphia minister keith goodman he is running and has to overcome residency first. >> education is the most pressing issue for the city but make sure whatever school they attend that there is accountability. >> former state senator, milton street, the reigning master of political fame will join the race next month. >> someone from this democratic field is more than likely to be the next explosion nearby. flames shot hundreds of feet in the air after the blast and gas was involved and it's unclear what caused the blast. havertown native, joseph clancy is named the head of the secret service, clancy was named the interim director in october after several high-profile security breaches. he served on the secret service for 20 years and a graduate of villanova university, clancy retired in 2011 for a job at comcast, some lawmakers spoke out against the decision, after they said the president should hire a director from outside of the agency. police in atlantic city paid tribute to one of their own today. >> the department honored officer kevin wilkins on the first anniversary of his death, it's intersection at baltimore and north carolina after news was renamed decision if they want to stay in their facilities or hang outside. >> with other species their bodies can handle it and their behavior lets us know. and we give them choice, lions pride day and three different snow leopards and tigers are out. they have a choice of where they want to be but other animals need help in knowing it's too cold out for them. the philadelphia zoo monitors each animal all
