>> we have an update from the teenager's family. he is 14 years old and was rushed here in critical condition. he is alert and talking. his mother and the rest of his family say he's in recovery after losing his leg. >> the 14-year-old remains at st. christopher's hospital. his family is thankful he's alive. >> his dad, mom -- >> it was here just after 5:00 tonight where police say according to witness accounts, the teen tried to jump on a train but missed and severed his leg. first responders stabilized his leg. they had to cut through train tracks. whew a second train witnessed part of the accident. that witness engineer is being interviewed by accident investigation officers. >> his family says they are trying to understand what happened, say the teen is a good kid who plays every sport. >> he's the best brother ever. >> after several hours of surgery, doctors were not able to save his leg. already his family is thinking ahead on how they'll care for him moving forward. >> he's a great spirit, you know?
