barnett. >> so that's it. he is derek barnett who broke reggie white's sack record at tennessee. like white, he will be an eagle. the big story is the nfl draft in philadelphia and the newest eagle. it's been a spectacular event on the parkway so far. estimates say 70,000 people have jammed the parkway and the especially constructed theater for tonight's first round, as far as we can tell, it's gone off without a hitch. a great picture from our sky 6 high above logan's circle. we have ducis rogers ready to talk about the first round pick. jeff skversky has reaction from eagle fans and walter perez talks about the spectacle, the nfl draft in philadelphia. >> ducis rogers, what do we know about derek barnett and what he can contribute to the eagles? >> he's a tenacious player that can keep up with the quarterback. on paper and on film he appears to be the real deal. some mock drafts him high asinine. barnett left tennessee in his junior season. he made an impact as soon as he got to knoxville. 13 sacks last season, 32 for his career. he broke reggie white's sack record. that's a big deal. barnett tells us he's done his homework on philadelphia. >> i heard the fans are passionate. i know i'm going to an organization with a lot of great players. i can't wait. i'm ready to get to work. everyone's telling me, enjoy the moment. i love football. i'm ready to get to what i want to do. >> he stands what what everyone in the city will see, what kind of player he is, unbelievable worker and talented and productive. it's a seven mile drive to the complex. barnett is ready to get to work. let's switch live to jeff skversky. what is the initial action of eagle fans? >> ducis, if you remember a few weeks ago, howie roseman said when they picked 14, everyone would be high fiving. that was not necessarily the case when they selected derek barnett from tennessee. here's reaction from eagle's fans tonight. >> exciting. very exciting, but i'll say i'm a little disappointed. i was hoping for a wide receiver. a lot of them had gone earlier in the pick. >> hopefully, he pans out to get a lot of sacks. >> not a fan. not a fan. i wanted a cornerback. horrible pick. i wanted a cornerback bad, man. >> of course, remember how eagle's fans felt about donovan mcnabb years and years ago? he turned out to be the greatest quarterback in eagle's history. derek barnett told me on the red carpet before the draft tonight he was excited about the possibility to come to philadelphia because he could get a sense of how excited and passionate the fans were from being on the parkway. jeff skversky "action news," back to you. >> let's move to reporter walter perez. the whole thing tonight has been looking terrific on espn with great images, all of the parkway so the whole country can see what's going on. what has your draft experience been like? well, jim, it begins with this. what a difference an hour makes. this place was teaming with people. now not so much. once the eagles made their pick it drained out. before they left, they had a great time. >> it's kind of unusual to walk the parkway and see people wearing anything but an eagle's jersey. eagle's fans out number everyone 3-1, but there is a mix of all kinds of folks, including the native cowboy fan. >> a dallas fan and you are from philly? >> yes, sir. >> i came out of the womb with a star on my head. >> sorry to hear it. >> before he started talking about superbowl championship, we moved on to the case carrying the vince lombardi trophy that will be awarded to someone next february. the conversation turned to the eagles and the superbowl. >> i remember crying in 2004. >> we are still crying. >> you are not joking. >> that takes us to the minihall of fame tent displaying rigs from every superbowl. there it is 2005 jacksonville florida. >> the superbowl ring is up there. does it make you feel better? >> it's been ten years. it still hurts. >> at the end, tom brady was tom brady. >> you are not bitter? >> it's hard to get to the superbowl. >> we have to win one. we have been to two. we have to win one. >> i know. >> that's why we are here. why we love football as every team hopefully chooses a young man that will lead their team to glory. >> we'll be there. this is our year. >> finally, the reward for traveling the furthest goes to a young man from england. i asked him, which is your favorite team? >> loads of people have been stopping by the makeshift memorial at the wawa to pay their respects to corporal ballard all evening long. some are stranger friends, othes strangers. everyone says it feels personal. >> it breaks my heart to have this happen to one of our protectors. >> flowers are left at the site of corporal ballard's murder. >> he said they had mutual friends. >> he was a cool guy. he just got married. it's sad. >> the eight year veteran was investigating a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot when sealy shot him. he then fled to his middle townhome calling his family to confess. a 20 hour standoff ended with the accused cop killer shot to death this morning. >> authorities wouldn't say what kind of arsenal sealy was packing. residents try to make sense of the splintered doors and blown out windows across the street. >> i can't believe it's this close to our house. >> it's not clear why sealy shot ballard and if the officer was targeted. residents say it's personal. >> this man didn't deserve to lose his life and his son left behind to pick up the pieces. >> a live picture of this growing memorial here. a second memorial popped up where ballard was assigned. he leave leaves behind a wife ad young daughter. christie ileto, channel6 "action news." >> as hundreds of people gather in memory of another fallen officer they honored corporal ballard. it was a sad coincidence that the memorial 5k run was being held. the news castle police officer was stabbed to death during a struggle over money. a pennsylvania judge formally sentenced eric frein to death row and up to 194 years in prison. jurors from chester county approved corporal punishment by way of lethal injection. he killed dorp ral dickson and wounded another. frein said nothing. >> a 34-year-old man was shot dead in philadelphia. chopper 6 was over west seltzer street at 6:15. right now no word on a suspect or motivate. >> a woman was killed by her own dog in lehigh county at 1:30 in the afternoon. the dog attacked the woman on her back deck. she was taken to lehigh valley medical center and pronounced dead. the dog, a pit bull mix will be euthanized. >> coming up, no deal. the latest from washington as the countdown to shutdown creeps closer. a deadly day for u.s. special forces contingent in the fight against isis. >> plus coming to terms of a doctor dragged off a plane. another airline says it will stop overbooking flights. cecily? >> we heated things up from tuesday's raining 57 to today's 81-degrees. i'll let you know how long temperatures climb and track storms on the way in the seven-day forecast. >> we go back to akin's oval and more on the draft when "action news" continues in just a minute. ♪ ♪ >> welcome back. we want to give you another look at the nfl draft going on, on the parkway. this is our camera from the embassy suites high above logan circle. the draft continues. they are on pick number 27. they have a while to go before they conclude on the first night of the draft and some folks, some fans are still there as walter perez told us a moment or two ago, a lot of the crowd has left in the wake of the eagle pick at 14, but the draft continues in philadelphia. >> this is day number 98 of the trump presidency. on this day democrats in the senate blocked a quick vote on a short-term bill to keep the government open through may 5th. meanwhile it doesn't appear president trump will get a vote in copping on a compromised healthcare repeal and replace bill. it has the sup of freedom caucus but not moderate republicans. >> michael flynn is now being investigated by the pentagon inspector general. di he break the rules accepting sponsors. >> the over sight committee cummins in maryland says the white house is stone walling refusing to give up documents pertaining to flynn. the senate tonight confirmed alex acosta 60-38. acosta was not his first choice for the draw. andrew withdrew on the eve of his confirmation vote last month. >> two u.s. forces were killed and a third injured during a fight with isis militants in afghanistan. it happened in the region the u.s. dropped the mother of all bombs this month. the eample rangers were dom dating afghan fighters on a raid. >> police are asking for the public's help to catch this bank robber that held up a bank in king of prussia this afternoon. he went into the blue parking lot at the mall. it appears the dye pack did explode. a plan to turn the casino into a waterpark has gone bust. it was the first of a wave of closures in 2013. last month bentner based development group announced a deal to renovate the site and build an indoor waterpark. they missed a deadline to secure financing and the deal is off at least for now. united airlines has reached a settlement with dr. david dao, a passenger dragged off the flight earlier this month. the amount of money is not disclosed and likely never will be. united announced a new policy never to remove a passenger unless there is a safety frob. >> southwest is trying to avoid similar trouble. they plan to stop overbooming flights by the end of jiewp. it is the worst offender having bumped 15,000 passengers off flights last year. >> on health check at 11:00, another reason to workout. exercise can even come genetics. a fat gene was discovered increasing the odds someone will be obese but it's not a lost clause. researchers studied them and those that did physical activity had a lower waistline and lower bmi. >> brandon brooks spent this draft night helping to raise awareness to a problem he struggled. he received treatment for anxiety disorder spoke at the resource fair. he went public with his diagnosis last season. he says no matter who you are, it's important to seek help. >> the postal service is unveiling a stamp the first of its kind using special inc ink o when you touch it the heat turns the blacked out sun into a moon. it's in honor of the upcoming total eclipse this summer, the first to be visible coast to coast in 100 years. the postal service came up with a great idea. >> it's monday in the afternoon. am i a geek that i'm excited about it?
