They staged a roundup today hauling in drug suspects. It is tuesday night and the big story on action news tonight is crime in center city, philadelphia. Action News Reporter dann cuellar is live on south broad street. Dan, some residents and businesses say it is bad and getting worse. Reporter thats right, jim. People are deply troubled and concerned with some of the stuff going on. They want to know whats causing it and how do you fix it before it gets worse. Thats what we were looking into tonight. As promised Philadelphia Police stepping up their efforts to combat crime in center city. Here, undercover narcotics officers swooped down on drug dealing thats a big problem on 15th between chestnut and spruce, Police Believe is leading to other crimes as evidenced by the hammer one of the men was carrying that could possibly autoused to break into cars. There are now buyers along the 15th treat corridor. Never before. Reporter there are high profile crimes. In rittenhouse square, a man shot trying to break up a robbery. An unknown man shockingly pulled a brass railing from the stairs of the union league, causing significant damage. And this morning someone drove a car through the front window of the highend fashion retailer, boyds, hauling away thousands of dollars in expensive clothing and other merchandise. Reporter police have seen uptick in simple and aggravated assaults among the homeless since they were uprooted due to construction, they have migrated, causing problems. People are acting crazy. Police in new castle county, delaware, are trying to sort out the details of a shooting that led to a car crash in middletown this evening. Chopper 6 was over the scene on the 300 block of dove run road where a car ended up off the side of the road. Police say one occupant was car had been shot. The victim was flown to the hospital for treatment. Police have no one in custody. Meanwhile we are learning more about the moment when is Police Fatally shot two wanted fugitives from delaware. It happened at 10 00 this morning at this motel in elkton, maryland, just over the state line. Police were serving a warrant. Authorities say 25yearold Brandon Jones and his girlfriend, chelsea porter, were armed with realisticlooking bb guns like this. Not real firearms. Legal 23 of the Transit Union workers threatening to walk off the job bit end of the month. Action news was there as top negotiators returned to talks at the sheraton downtown hotel. Theyre arguing with the Transit Agency over wages, pensions, health care, and rotating work shifts. The union boss says he is not confident there will be a resolution by the halloween deadline. They have been working without one since the end of august. But the union says there has been very little progress to reach a settlement with the district.
