"action news" at 11:30 is next. many parts of the country are also struggling with what the storm left behind. we will have an update on how other parts of the country your doing tonight. most of us will remember this day for incredible amount of snow but for some folks in our area this day will be celebrated each and every year, those stories and more when "action news" comes right back. saturday night, here's is what happening on "action news" at 11:30. blizzard 2016 just about in the record books. we have the the latest on snow totals and what we can expect to have happen next. weights a disruptive day at the shore where serious flooding about major damage. we will find out how folks are coping. this is a a day for birthdays as well as on this snow day, for local local lucky family we will introduce you to the new residents in our region. as we continue our coverage of the blizzard of the 2016, it the looks like we are on the other side of the storm, at least moving to the other side of the storm like we have not seen in years. >> it it was a rough day for many of us but it was a fun day for others, however, you spent snowy saturday, we all remembered this one, we will remember this one for a very long time. meteorologist cecily tynan joins us with the very latest from accu weather. >> i'm smiling because the storm system is heading out of here. double scan live showing us this low pressure is finally pulling away and that means that snow is drawing to a close. we are starting to see the wind shifting out of the northwest. instead of the pulling in moisture from the atlantic, that is pulling in dry air, and that will continue to improve the the situation. the eye want to show you this photo. i talk about this a half an hour ago. this is from dewey beach, delaware, and you can see the the beach erosion is to say significant, it is kind of an under statement. dewey beach really taking it on the chin and a lot of the beaches are unfortunately saw a lot of the sand, just pulled right out to sea. beach erosion up and down eastern seaboard. also the the snow, historic snowfall, we have gotten basically a season's worth of snow, in one day. this is a lot like 1938, which was also an el nino year, allentown a record, all time record 31.7 inches of snow. more than the the blizzard of 96, philadelphia 20.8 inches. that makes it the the sixth largest snowstorm in our history. now, going ahead looking at the actual snow that you will have to shovel and the jackpot zone, really shifted. with that storm shifting up to the northwest the northwestern suburbs this is where we saw more than 2 feet of snow, but really most of our viewing area, a foot, to 2 feet of snow, and even along the shore where we did get that mixing even there about six to 12 inches. fortunately the wet are will be quiet as we head through weekend we will get melting. mother nature will cooperate that. i will talk about that in the accu weather seven day forecast, guys. >> thanks, cecily. jersey shore took the arguablely hit across the region. >> "action news" reporter jeff chirico has more from margate. >> reporter: as evening rolled in high wind and another round of snow, whipped through atlantic city, covering road and making driving treacherous. >> the road are bad. road are bad. the expressway is, um, it is wet and i think people are driving way too fast. >> you have to drive slow because the road are slushy, ice on the road. >> reporter: when high tides hit all eyes turns to the rising water. police shut down access to part of the ventnor hit the by back bay flooding this wasn't too bad. >> reporter: don lives along the channel and said he stayed during super storm sandy and has no intention of leaving now. >> even though this is bad, it is not even hitting top step. >> reporter: in neighboring margate large parts of the town were flooded as water poured over the bay bulkheads and through neighborhood. >> i looked and i said my god, i mean it was completely covered. >> reporter: catherine mclaughlin is watching and praying from her front step as water creeps closer. >> even though i did take things off the the floor, my computer stuff and now all that but i don't think it will hit the house. >> reporter: let's show you what the flooding looks like here in margate. you can see behind me, three or four blocks of the business district as well as the number of side streets are under water right now. police blocking traffic for preventing anyone to come down and using this part of the road. the good news is that this seems to be receding. we have noticed a significant drop in levels since we arrived here a couple of hours ago. despite that you do see what looks like a river right through this business district. now as you come to the left you will also see the the crosswalk, that is first time we have seen a crosswalks all night showing this is getting better. now as bad as this looked tonight, officials hearsay it was much worse during the morning high tides in which a number of businesses did suffer some minor damage and with some flooding that leaked in. now all eyes here are on tomorrow morning's high tide. in margate, jeff chirico for channel six "action news". wind were so powerful off the jersey shore today they push this giant weather buoy right on to the beach in ocean city. the giant structure normally sits way off the the companies just one example of how strong this storm really was. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic continues our coverage from the jersey shore. she spoke with people in ocean city toy day about the terrible flooding there. >> reporter: i'm at the corner of west avenue and tenth street right now, take a look what we are looking at. water is still flowing and it even got a current. it is enough that some people have had it and decided to evacuate and go to the mainland. >> it is freezing and is there water every where so we will go more inland. >> reporter: today the city is using high military trucks to get through the water to pick up essential workers, and they are about the only thing that can get safely through the high water. when you see what some of these trucks and minivans are going through you to try to struggle through here, it doesn't look like it is really safe. >> we cannot get to the primary residents. it the is totally under, not the house under water but road. we cannot get to it. >> i have never seen it this bad. when sandy was down at higher end it was flooded but not like this with the ice and border so far up. it looks like a lake on west. >> it does, doesn't it. >> it does it is actually moving, white caps. >> reporter: over on the ocean side look at the is what happening here, huge waves have been pounding the shore all day long causing some considerable beach erosion. there was just a big beach replenishment project on this beach front here and now water at high tides have washed up to the dunes. good thing they were there. >> we have not had beach replenishment we would have lost the dunes by how high it is going to do now. >> dunes were doing what they were intend to go do stop the ocean. >> reporter: hope is all of this ocean would recede before the next high tide. we are not the sure if it is going to go happen but certainly with the look at things here ocean city will continue to be under water for the the rest of the the day. in ocean city i'm nora muchanic for channel six "action news". despite danger, cold and deadly wind, a lot of people had to venture outside today that includes jeff skversky who gave up that warm sports chair tonight to find out how people are coping out in doylestown. hi there jeff. >> how are you. >> reporter: things are very quiet in doylestown. snow stopped around 8:00. as you can see up and down main street in doylestown visibility is much better, then earlier in the day. at one point you could not even see about a hundred yard in front of you, the the length of the football field. now you can see just fine, snowplows, came through here but there is still a layer of snow on the ground. things are still slippery right the now. if you do make your way out be very careful. today people were out and about today. mostly on foot, but we ran into one family that had a snowball fight with us. that was a lot of fun. the most people out were in plows, others, well, snowmobile and we even saw people on atv's. take a look at this how about this idea get around in the snow. c.b. west wrestler kevin kelly, out and about, on his snowmobile, kind of, makeshift snowmobile on the snow board with the atv. his red light tournament was canceled just like sixers, flyers and all of the college basketball games, postpone, moved to the later date and he is out and about having some fun in doylestown tonight. >> i always loved the snow. i'm just going to take advantage of it and make best of the weekend, you know. it is tough being indoors and being stuck at home. >> reporter: how perfect is this snow or these conditions to go snow boarding. >> it is on a atv. >> it is pretty g we have got like a good foot and a half or two, and we're just killing it out here. >> reporter: these conditions are great if you want to to snow board, if you want to sled tomorrow, but driving isn't so great. the plows have come through here but conditions on the road, as you can see, still a good layer of snow, packed in there right now. so you do have to come out be very careful. right now mostly just contractors and plows are out here right now, trying to clean up the roads, but that is all we have from doylestown tonight. thank goodness the snow has stopped up here. we are live, jeff skversky, channel six caught in the the middle of the snowstorm. >> reporter: even d.c. police chief stepping into shovel out stuck patrol cars. so much snow the plows just can't keep up. at the the new jersey shore, roads flooded with chunks of ice floating by and water levels reaching 8 feet. >> governor chris christie praising residents who heated the early morning to evacuate. >> this is my 17th snow emergency in six years. so we know how you to do this. >> reporter: further west in pittsburgh. >> it has just been one after another truck stuck. it is non-stop. it is just not like we are getting anywhere to be honest. >> reporter: pennsylvania turnpike turned into a long, stalled snake. many commuters spending 15 hours in their frigid cars. >> we have not had any food since yesterday. >> reporter: in new york city, a whole travel ban, bridges, tunnels closed with virtually no cars on the street, people are walking right down the middle. so far, three people have died from shoveling snow here, and bringing the total to at least 18 weather-related deaths across the the northeast. as you can see more than 25 inches of snow has fallen here in the city, alone. got news is that it is starting to taper off and the travel ban could be lifted as early as tomorrow morning. in new york, carla, channel six "action news". we have been telling you a all day to day about the temple university gymnastics team, stuck on its bus on the turnpike in west pennsylvania. here's the tweet we have been waiting for, on the move, after more than 24 hours. those cheers say it all, they are tired, and streamlines, showing you that the winds have shifted with those nor'easter. you get the wind out of the north east. now they are shifting out of the north. as it pull as way it will shift out of the northwest pulling down, much dryer air. and, the the lingering problem will be coastal flooding. we have one more high tide cycle between 7:00 and 8:00 o'clock tomorrow morning. that will cause additional coastal flooding. also you saw photo i showed you, the toll that is actually rehoboth beach, not dewey beach. sorry for that mistake but it shows all that beach erosion. we had a lot of. that wind continue to decrease down the shore overnight hours. so tomorrow sunshine is back, it is breezy, and we will begin to dig out. 32 degrees in philadelphia a trenton 34. the atlantic city 34. reading 32. wilmington 33. so the exclusive accu weather seven day forecast, sunshine returns tomorrow, breezy, on the cool side but not brutal with a high of 32. mother nature cooperating with the dig out efforts. on monday, temperatures, bump it up to 37 degrees, with the good amount of sunshine and a few cloud on thursday, we have a system pulling through that will bring us more cloud, perhaps a shower but it will also bring us warmer air. high of 43 degrees. on wednesday, mostly cloudy, 40, with a cold front moving through. behind that cold front temperatures take a bit of the drop things are very quiet in doylestown. snow stopped around 8:00. as you can see up and down main street in doylestown visibility is much better, then earlier in the day. at one point you could not even see about a hundred yard in front of you, the the length of the football field. now you can see just fine, snowplows, came through here but there is still a layer of snow on the ground. things are still slippery right the now. if you do make your way out be very careful. today people were out and about today. mostly on foot, but we ran into one family that had a snowball fight with us. that was a lot of fun. the most people out were in plows, others, well, snowmobile and we even saw people on atv's. take a look at this how about this idea get around in the snow. c.b. west wrestler kevin kelly, out and about, on his snowmobile, kind of, makeshift snowmobile on the snow board with the atv. his red light tournament was canceled just like sixers, flyers and all of the college basketball york city, a whole travel ban, bridges, tunnels closed with virtually no cars on the street, people are walking right down the middle. so far, three people have died from shoveling snow here, and bringing the total to at least 18 weather-related deaths across the the northeast. as you can see more than 25 inches of snow has fallen here in the city, alone. got news is that it is starting to
