all the pain, not knowing, all of the emotion, past three days came through on saturday night. a vigil was hell for shane montgomery, west chester university student missing since 2:00 a.m. thanksgiving morning. dozens of people crowded the sidewalk across the street from kill dare's public, the last place shane was seen. amidst the crowd the two people hurting the most, shane's parents. >> just keep praying, that's what tonight is, and people open their hearts. >> somebody knows something. somebody knows where shane is. >> many of those in attendance were the same people who spent their day combing through every inch of the manayunk neighborhood. hundreds took part in a volunteer response, some experts said was nearly un precedent in the our area. shane's parents called the support overwhelming. >> there was 300 some people down here waiting to go search. so what keeps you going? >> the 300 keep you going. >> manayunk's christmas tree was supposed to be lit saturday night, but officials postponed that, instead, opting for somber ceremony, filled with persistent determination. >> he's our son. and i won't ever stop looking for shane, ever. >> and shane's parents also tell us that the philadelphia police department plans on dispatching a marine aoun at this time thoroughly sweep the canal that lies just across the street from the last place that shane was seen. live in manayunk tonight, matt rivers, "eyewitness news" at 10:00 on the "cw philly". well, thank you, and also developing tonight the police offers here shot and killed an unarmed teenager in ferguson misuser i has quit his job. he said he made the decision to resign after the police department told him it had received threats of violence if he remained on the force. the resignation comes as new week long protest got underway. reporter chris van cleve has the details now from ferguson. >> reporter: cbs news has confirmed darren wilson the police offers here shot michael brown has resigned effective immediately. earlier saturday, hundreds gathered in ferguson to mark the start after 120-mile march from the spot where michael brown was killed, to missouri's capitol jefferson city. marchers called for ends to the violent protest that is have scarred this community. >> if you come here, to mess our city up, you won't deal with us from now on. it's not going to happen no more. peaceful demonstration, that's what we want. >> seven day march organized by the naacp to protest the grand jury decision not to indict officer wilson in the shooting brought. death of brown. >> we believe the most compelling form of protest is non-violent. >> just hours earlier two days a relative calm gave way to unrest. sixteen demonstrators are arrested after clash with officers outside the ferguson police headquarters, all but one were from out of state. police remain braced for more protests. >> in ferguson, missouri, chris van cleve, "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly". well, turning to the weather now, it was cold but clear skies on this saturday night. "eyewitness news" in the northeast, where a 40-foot christmas tree was lit up at the american heritage federal credit union. yep, cents the christmas season is officially here. meteorologist, justin day brick here with the forecast, just makes me smile. >> certainly does feel like christmas outside today. temperatures pretty cold for this time of year. only stuck in the 30's for the afternoon highs. we are on bit of warming trends coming up. here's where we are, 38 degrees at the airport, temperatures on the rise, over the past few hours, that's warmer air that's going to be moving in from the south and west. thirty-nine in wilmington, 42 degrees in the capitol city in delaware, mount pocono checking in at 27. we're sitting at freezing in quakertown, 31 pottstown, 36 degrees in northeast philadelphia. there is a bit of a breeze outside. so dress warm if you are headed out. here are the current windchill values. down to the lower 30's in many spots, even some 20's, currently feels like 25 degrees in allentown. some clouds moving over us right now as we speak. actually the sign of the warmer air, moves in, high in the atmosphere, moves down to the surface, we'll feel difference in the temperatures tomorrow. around the region, partly sunny skies, low 50's for the sit, mid 50's at the shore, poconos really not bad day. maybe heading up to the resorts for some skiing and riding temperatures in the 40's with some sunshine. now, coming up in the full forecast, we talk about temperatures not as cold, we'll let you know how long that lasts and next change for some rain coming up in five-day forecast. >> thank you, justin, see you soon. rolling gun battle between two cars leave one man hospital in the north philadelphia. shots were fired at 11 and lehigh shortly after 1:00 this afternoon, police say a bullet grazed a 46 year old man's forehead. he drove himself to the hospital for treatment. a septa bus meantime it was going through the intersection , during this gun battle but was not struck by any of the bullets. police have not announced any arrests just yet. >> and fire damages a car dealership in vineland cumberland county. heavy smoke was pouring out of the building on the 1700 block of delsea drive when firefighters arrived. authorities say the fire broke out about 5:00 this morning, it took crews about two hours to bring those flames under control. there were no injuries, and the cause does remain under investigation. and several people are injured after a car collides with a city recycling truck. the crash happened just after 2:00 this morning, near 30th and walnut streets in west philly. all of the injuries are said to be minor. police still trying to figure out exactly what caused the crash. newly-released surveillance video shows suv that plowed into pharmacy in northeast philadelphia on friday night. the crash happened in the 9400 block of state road in torresdale. police say the woman behind the wheel got confused, and accidentally drove right through the storefront. the store owner says the crash caused a lot of damage. >> i don't know. maybe 30, 40, 50,000, i don't know, could be more. the gate, the front, all of the inventor up, just down time, loss of income. >> reporter: no one was injured in this crash. >> and search is on for a purr snatching suspect caught on camera in runnemede, camden county. police say this woman stole a purse from the philly diner on the black horse pike on thanksgiving. if you recognize her, please call runnemede police right away. now the prescription drug now more widely available in pennsylvania, you might know it by the brands name narcan. it is a drug that helps reverse the effect of heroin and related substances. a new law allows police to administer the drug in overdose cases, physicians may also prescribe the drug to friends and relatives of addicts. the nfl meantime says it will again make changes to its personal conduct policy. this comes just 24 hours after ray rice won an appeal over his indefinite suspension from the league. rice was initially suspended for two games after being accused of assaulting his then fiancee. but after videos of that attack emerged, commissioner roger goodel suspended risin definitely. the nfl says it expects its newly revised personal conduct policy to be announced in the weeks to come. now, yesterday was "black friday". today it is small business saturday. but local was the theme as shoppers converged on mom and pop stores this holiday weekend. we've got more coming up. justin? >> we have colds temperatures outside right now. tracking built of warming trends coming up in the seven day forecast, i'll show >> president obama along with his daughters mal ian sasha got some holiday seaning done today. the president brought at least two bags of books during a stop at washington politics and pro's book store. it is all in an effort to support independently owned businesses on this small business saturday. >> and here at home, main streets all across the region were buckling -- bustling with shoppers. many small business owners offered special deals hoping to entice folks to skip the mall and buy local. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson has more. >> reporter: it sounds like she's describing family. >> i just see it myself in everything that i choose. >> ask melissa about her boutique on main street, manayunk, and she could go on like this for hours. >> huge investment, and but it is paid off. >> reporter: shop owners like this are the reason for small business saturday. just think about it, her future, tied to every placement, of every item, in this store. her store woven into the fabric after thriving main street. >> it is a day for me. a day definitely for all of the small businesses out there. >> small business saturday, now the grass roots reaction to "black friday", oddly established by american express about four years ago, in one every it founding cities manayunk. >> great day to support small businesses, started by american express in 2011, they really wanted to highlight us as one of their main towns. >> now, places like collingswood welcome shoppers during their holiday parade, people place premium on preserving community by buying local. >> i bought a vera bradley buy. >> why it is important to buy local. >> it supports our town. it is beautiful, too. >> small business saturday, this saturday, in small towns across the country, here in manayunk, a chance to shop local, eat some -- meet some of the fine owners, maybe come away with free swag. "eyewitness news" on the "cw" fill. >> i mayor michael nutter shopping in philadelphia this small business saturday. visited several businesses on lancaster avenue, including read's coffee and tea house. this neighborhood was recently designated as a promise zone by the obama administration to help small businesses grow. and philadelphia's christmas village, it is now officially open for business. "eyewitness news" at love park, the grand opening ceremony today. the village features more than 60 wooden booths, sells everything from belgium waffles to homemade crafts. open through december 28th. >> and pope francis continues his three day visit to turkey and paid a visit to one of the country's most important mosks, the pope stood facing east for two minute, silent prayer alongside the grand move tai of istanbul. later francis celebrated mass for the tiny catholic community, and met with spiritual leader of the world's 300 million orthodox christians. >> and now after nearly a decade of airwise con sin's man wedding ring is finally back on his finger. justin blair was bowling in his league when he says the ring just slid off his finger. as you can imagine, his wife, becky, was not very happy about that. justin scored the lanes, he checked the police with them and also local pawn shops, still found nothing. then local church decided to buy the bowling alley and tear it down. the couple reached out for help. >> her phone beeped. she had got answer e-mail. she just started laughing. and she said i'll be dang, they found that ring. >> very happy ending. the couple now has a son, and that's what we're dealing with tonight across the delaware valley as we check in with our weather watchers, lee up in coatesville, has 32 degrees this hour, little bit warm nerve ocean city. james checks in at 43 degrees, gregg wood in ocean view, new jersey, coming in at milder 44, and avondale looking at 36 degrees, this hour, but that's pretty much the trends all through the delaware valley. right now temperatures holding in the 20's, 30's. now, if you love weather won't be a part of the "eyewitness news" cast, just joining the eyewitness weather watcher program. check it out at cbsphilly.com/watchers for all of the detail. may plan to do some skiing and riding this weekend, and all a go up in the poconos. live look at jack frost and big boulder, this is big boulder, maybe done for the night, and as they do close at 10:00 o'clock, you can see a lot of snow on the slopes. so pretty good conditions to kick off the early season. but temperatures, actually going to be on the rise. this is compared to yesterday at this time. six to 22 degrees warmer, that's warming trends it, will move back to the delaware valley for the next few days. here we are, 38 at the airport, 30 in allentown, 27 in mount pocono. a lot of the temperatures have actually risen over the past couple of hours, that's warmer air moving in from the south and west. check it out, pittsburgh 48 degrees. gets warmer the farther west you g milder air will begin to move back to the region starting tomorrow and certainly into the start of the work week. there are some clouds over the reek on as we speak. that's actually the warmer air, high in the atmosphere moving on in. so that will continue to push on throughment generally partly to mostly cloudy skies overnight, keep it dry. tomorrow enjoy it, if you have outdoor plans, lower 50's, so now going above average for the afternoon highs this time of year. cold front, slow to move eastward for monday. so still on the warm side that far frontal boundery. temperatures surging into the upper 50s, maybe even hitting 06 degrees on monday, depending on how much sunshine we see. the front does move through later on monday night. and that will bring a brief shot of some colder air for tuesday, back to seeing high temperatures around 40 degrees. but we look at the jet stream, and i don't see any big signs of cold air coming any time soon. all of the real cold air stays to the north, jet stream pretty flat. milder air does push in as we speak monday, then that little dip in the jet stream tuesday, that cools us down, but watch what happens by the end of the week, jet kind of just hangs flat. no way for that cold air to really sag southward. so if you like milder temperatures, at least average temperatures, you will like the seven day forecast coming up. big travel day tomorrow. looks pretty good across much of the mid-atlantic, run into few showers out toward the ohio vale. same deal on monday, that's the actual front, still to our west, but for the most part, good driving conditions for the next couple of days, temperatures on the cooler side, tomorrow we may get back to the low to mid 50's, in some spots. even warmer on monday, check this out, up ear's, maybe even 60 in parts of south jersey, and in central delaware. that's all depends on how much sunshine we see. chilly overnight, mostly cloudy, low around 34 for the city. temperatures slowly on the rise, milder sunday, partly sunny, 53 degrees for the afternoon temperature. extended forecast, if you like milder air, enjoy sunday, monday, well to the 50's, brief shot of cooler air returns for tuesday washings high near 40. wednesday, we're back into the 50's again, could be few showers around. looks like those temperatures pretty much hold near average, into next weekend, we could be dealing with more rain later on friday and saturday. but no sign of any cold air this week, guys. >> okay. we'll take a break when we can. get a couple of ten. >> need just one more win to to become bowl eligible. played final home game against cincinnati hoping to get the sixth win. temple started out with a three-nothing lead in this game. but then in the second quarter, bad news. finding mc kay for the 3-yard touchdown pass, seven-three, cincinnati. then 30 seconds left in the half. mike boone runs it in from 1 yard out. temple playing great defensively, will lose it 14 to six. last chance to be bowl eligibles in week in their finale against tulane. >> sixers hosting the mavericks trying to avoid a zero and 16 start. that will would be franchise record. and the raining rookie of the year trying his best to get this win. goes in. get lay up, triple double tonight, 18-point, ten rebounds, ten assists. then in the fourth quarter, the sixers hanging tough in this one. kj mcdaniels, nails a three. that will put them to within four. mcdaniels with a career high 21-point, 13 rebounds, and the six letters hang with the mavs right up
