Is cbs3 Eyewitness News. Problems on the horizon for septa riders. A strike is looming and it could come as early as next week. The transport Workers Union outlines their plans to walk off the job if they cant reach a deal. Good evening, im chris may. Im jessica dean. A strike could cause commuter troubles all around the area and Eyewitness News reporter walt hunter shows us the two sides are still far apart. Reporter septa riders now have a schedule for something they hope will never arrive. A possible strike. Twu local 234 president willie brown saying he cant promise his 5,000 members will stay on the job after this weekend. I cant promise anything beyond this week. At the end of the week after negotiating with septa for the rest of the week i will evaluate where we are. Reporter brown says his union which authorized a strike sunday will keep negotiatorring through the week and depending on how it goes hell most likely make his decision friday on whether or not there will be a walkout. I cant put odds on it. Just say we are very far apart. Reporter brown says worker pension contributions are the major issue right nowly he promises hell give riders at least 24 hours notice but after this weekend, there are no guarantees and no estimate on how long a strike might last. As long as it takes. We had a two week in 95, a 40 day in 98, so we had a 44 day before that. So, hopefully it dont come down to that. Reporter reacting to browns statements here at union headquarters, septa Officials Say theyre pleased that the union will give a 24 hour notice of a possible strike. While the high school here is now closed, its doors will remain opened to help kids find another place to go. Hundreds showed up for answers after getting a voicemail sunday the high school was closed. High School Students should not report to school on monday october 27th. Reporter Walter Palmer charter is only allowed 675 kids by the district but they had 1300 on their rolls through 12th grade in two locations. A Court Ordered palmer to drop 600 students from enrollment. Two weeks ago 300 Elementary Schoolers were unenrolled by lottery from their Northern Liberties school. Its not about kids. Its about numbers and the money. Reporter the School Founder says the enroll. Cap was not legal and he ignored it. He has been orderd to pay the district a million dollars. Is now telling parents that if their children feel like they were victimized they should cant their office. The initial allegations led School Officials to cancel the remainder of cb west football season today but the d. A. s office has yet to determine if criminal charges should be filed. We learned today police have not interviewed any members of the varsity or jv football teams. The school board will talk more about those allegations at a meeting that is set for tomorrow night.
