From the cbs Broadcast Center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 Eyewitness News. Right now at 10 oclock, the family of the first ebola patient diagnosed in the u. S. Is speaking out. Good evening, im chris may. Im jessica dean. Some of Thomas Eric Duncans other relatives have been quarantined. Correspondent marley hall shows us the steps authorities are taking to keep ebola from spreading. Reporter this dallas apartment is under a Public Health lockdown many inside four relatives of ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan are confine in there a Court Ordered police monitored quarantine. One was seen picking up food that was left at the door wednesday but no one is allowed in or out. Last weekend the four relatives including wilfred small woods 21yearold son helped duncan get medical attention. When he start vomiting and throwing up in the bathroom so thats when i called the ambulance to pick him up. Reporter the family members are among almost 100 people who had direct or indirect contact with duncan. So far none has developed any symptoms of the disease. Duncan himself did not show symptoms of ebola when he flew to the u. S. Almost two weeks ago. While living in liberia, he had helped a Young Pregnant neighbor who later died of ebola. When he left liberia, duncan filled out this form denying he had been in contact with anyone who had the virus. Liberias president says he will be prosecuted. But the fact that he knew and he left the country is unpardonable quite frankly. I just hope that nobody else gets infected. Reporter u. S. Health officials are working to fulfill that hope. Marley hall for Eyewitness News on the cw philly. Meanwhile a freelance nbc photographer working in liberia has been diagnosed with ebola. This is the fourth american known to have contracted the disease. It is a mostly cloudy evening across the delaware valley. You can still see some clouds across the philadelphia area and that will be changing, though, over the next 24 hours. Right now temperatures in the 60s with the exception of the poconos checking in at 52 but the cloud cover will help to keep the real Cool Temperatures away. Then all eyes on this, a cold front that will be moving through the region over the course of the weekend bringing plenty of rain but very cold temperatures as well. In fact, we are in for some of the coldest air of the season coming up this weekend. So, coming up in the sevenday forecast were going to talk about one more nice day before we help you plan around the rain. The coldest air will bring a shock to the system. Eyewitness news with exclusive Surveillance Video tonight in a case of vandalism that has outraged a neighborhood. The suspects were caught on camera in juniata park puncturing tires overnight. They hit east morell and potter streets. Now police say there are three suspects but in this Surveillance Video obtained only by Eyewitness News today, there appears to be four. We do know about eight vehicles in all were damaged. Its absolutely disgraceful. Like they have no respect for anybody in this neighborhood or what they work for or how hard they work. They just dont care. If you have any information on who these people are, youre asked to contact east detectives. A veteran philadelphia firefighter charged with sexually assaulting a woman. Eyewitness News Reporter walt hunter has the latest on this investigation. Reporter lieutenant Jemal Johnson in his pickup truck off duty police say johnson posing as Police Officer kidnapped a woman near 13th and ruscomb streets, then sexually assaulted her. At some point in time throughout the conversation she asked him whether or not shes going to be arrested. He indicates that hes a Police Officer and that she would not be arrested if she performed these acts. Reporter after she complied with johnsons demands the woman, police say, broke free, several blocks from where she had been abducted. Theres an indication she hides between vehicles at some point in time once she exits the vehicle and that he maneuvers around several cars looking for her, drives around the block looking for her. Reporter although not still on duty police say the lieutenant was still wearing his fire uniform pants making his officer impersonation easier. Investigators crediting the woman with dialing 911 as she was fleeing providing a clear description of the truck that led to johnsons arrest. Based on that information the officer responding in the area theyre able to locate this vehicle in the 4800 block of 12th street. Reporter following processing here at the special much special victims unit johnson faced arraignment on charges of kidnapping and sexually related crimes. Philadelphia Fire Department officials decline comment saying police are handling the investigation. At special victims unit, walt hunter, Eyewitness News on the cw philly. New tonight, a philadelphia Police Officer is facing numerous charges. Authorities say Kenneth Allen assaulted a female philadelphia Police Officer on several occasions. Investigators say the most recent attack happened this past friday. Commissioner ramsey has suspended al and will with intender to dismiss. The interim director of the secret service has deep ties to our area. Tonight those who know joe clancy best say hes the right man for the job. He grew up in havertown Delaware County am he takes over for Julia Pierson who resigned over security lapses at the agency. He once taught at father judge high school in 1983. Those who worked with him said he made a quiet an impression. He was a quiet guy but he had a certain presence about him. He knows what has to be done and hell do it correctly. He went to work as head of security for comcast. Trenton new jersey is getting more help to bring down its crime rate. Today federal lawmakers gathered at city hall to announce a 1. 5 million grant that will enable trenton to hire 12 more Police Officers. The Police Departments new director says he hopes to restore some bike and foot patrols so officers can have more interaction with residents. Well, the the banking giant Jp Morgan Chase says cyber criminals stole information on tens of millions of account holders in a huge bank hack this summer. Back in august those hackers got ahold of Contact Information for 76 million households and 7 million small businesses. But jp morgan insists that account numbers and birth dates were not compromised. The hack was part of a wider cyber attack that involved seven of the countrys largest banks. With the midterm elections just about a month away, president obama is hitting the road to tout his economic policies. Today he spoke about the recovery effort and the middle class at northwestern university. He said voters will make their judgments about the economy in the coming elections. Obama also attended a fundraising event for illinois governor pat quinn who is up for reelection. New developments in the fight against isis, the militants launched an iny assault on a small do you know in western iraq called hit and forces say theyve taken over there. Seth williams who argued Sexual Orientation and gender identity should be included on a statute. An assault on someone because of his or her Sexual Orientation has noplace in our society. October is lgbt History Month and at Philadelphia City hall today a rainbow flag was raised to celebrate. Flag which is on the Northeast Corner of Dillworth Plaza will fly next to the American Flag for the rest of this month. And a stretch of market east corridor in center city will soon have a whole new look. Mayor Michael Nutter swung a sledgehammer to help break ground on the east market project today. Its expected to transform the block on Market Street between 11th and 12th streets. East market will include new retail shops, office space and an Apartment Building with 322 units. Ly. Quite a shock for some folks in bucks county today when they saw a hot air balloon falling from the sky. Weve got some exclusive video of it to show you. Its from an eyewitness viewer. It happened this morning on easton road and lower barness road. Caroline ramirez used her cell phone to record that. She tell us the balloon narrowly avoided power lines. They almost hit the roof am they went like this and behind the tree. They were stuck right there. Then i couldnt see no more cause i went back home. Close call. In the end, though, no one was injured. Well, some spectacular video here from iceland. The mount bartabunga volcano continues to erupt. These pictures were captured by a drone that had a go pro attached. The camera became so hot it melted but the memory card inside survived. This eruption started about a month ago. Iceland is one of the most volcanically active locations anywhere in the world. There is a new addition to the Schuylkill River park, one of the most used parks in philadelphia. Mayor Michael Nutter cut the ribbon on the boardwalk. The extension of the Schuylkill River trail now goes from locust street to south street. This took three years to build. It connects cyclists and pedestrians in center city, south philadelphia and west philadelphia. For the boardwalk we would have to head up like locust street towards rittenhouse square. Now we have just a nice uninterrupted stroll back to markets and then we go down market so its good. The boardwalk is part of a lamp erin anybody tiff to create a continuous trail along the schuylkill from pottsville to southwest philadelphia. In hong kong now prodemocracy protesters made their way to the chief executives building but he is refusing to stepdown. Instead, hes offered talks in hopes of calming down a week of demonstrations. A new York Community is in mourning tonight after a High School Football player took a hit on the field and later died. This happened during a game last night in shore ham. The junior player, tom cutinela was rushed to the hospital after that hit with a traumatic head injury. Doctors performed emergency surgery but they could not save the life of the long island teenager. A freak accident. You know, the game involves contact and it was the result of a freak football play. Well, today students and Community Members gathered on the football field there to honor his memorial right. His coach said that there were no words to describe the loss. Well, two stars of the hit reality series the new housewives of new jersey are going prison. Teresa guidice will spend 15 months behind bars and her husband, joe, will serve 41 months. The judge said that theresa will serve her sentence first so her husband can stay home with their four children. Back in march these two pled guilty admitting they hid assets and lied on mortgage and loan applications. The guidices were each ordered to pay more than 400,000 in restitution. Take a look at this unusual sight. These some giant rabbits at the Elmwood Park Zoo in norristown. Some say that bunnies like these are becoming popular pets. Flemish rabbits and german rabbits can grow to be about 30 pounds in all. In some cases theyre bigger than small dogs and even some small children. Were told that they can can make great pets but they need a lot of exercise, a lot of room to run and, yes, they are very delicate. Well, tonight the linc went pink. Take a look at lincoln financial field from chopper three. Landmarks across the area are turning pink all month long part of the lights for the cure campaign, a joint effort by cbs3 and susan g. Komen philadelphia. The pink light is a reminder for women to schedule that mammogram and its appropriate timing because october is Breast Cancer awareness month. Even more pink in Center City Philadelphia and down the shore looking quiet. City philadelphia and down the boards, of course nocean city, Cape May County where it is dry but its a little bit on the cloudy side and a little bit cool this evening. On storm scan3 were tracking some clouds, thats about it. These persistent clouds with easterly winds have been with us for the past couple days and finally well see them breaking up and moving eastward as our winds shift. Right now in philadelphia 65, 66 in allentown, in the poconos 52. The only good part about the temperatures a little milder. Where it is clear, it is cold and you can see throughout the Northern Plains some 30s and some 40s. Northern plains some 30s and cold front. Tomorrow is the last really nice day. Well watch that low pressure system thats providing the clouds move further out to sea. The sun returns and it will be a very comfortable afternoon. But by late friday night this front will approach, the clouds move in. Saturday morning the rain arrives with a little wind and once that front moves through, saturday afternoon skies will clear but temperatures will plunge from early highs in the 70s down into the 60s and all these arrows signifying cold air. It is going to be a little bit of a shock come sunday morning when we take a look at those morning lows. By the afternoon only in the 60s. The good news is the cooldown is not going to last that long. Heres a look at the timing of this rain. Before 4 00 a. M. And 6 00 a. M. Rain arrives west to east. Between 9 00 a. M. The heaviest rain false. Gusty winds expected. Between 11 00 a. M. And 1 00 p. M. The rain moves off shore and it will be ending and the sun will be coming out. This is the cool air that moves in in some locations come sunday morning it will be down right cold. Were not used to this weather. It will be the coolest air of the season. Morning lows on sunday, little bit of a shock to the system in the poconos waking up to temperatures in the 30s. The lehigh valley, reading, berks county, all of the philadelphia area in the 40s. And only along the immediate shore in central and southern delaware talking about morning lows on sunday in the 50s. Overnight tonight, the low 57 with partly cloudy skies. A mix of sun and a few clouds with seasonable friday, the high 72 and of course for the eagles game, temperatures will rebound but only into the oclock on zinn.
