>> we're not going to change our message the entire campaign. >> reporter: tonight, chris christie, the man who took rubio down in the debate, hoping it will pay off. he may need a new hampshire miracle to keep his campaign alive. >> and tom llamas is ve with us tonight from outside trump's headquarters. and tom, donald trump so often but today, he was sounding a bit more cautious. >> reporter: that's right, david, and for two reasons. polls in new hampshire historically sometimes are way off. and, also, the trump campaign learned their lesson after iowa. some polls there had them winning and trump came in second place. david, i can tell you this, though, the donald trump i encountered after the iowa caucuses clearly wounded. but tonight, donald trump, full of confidence. david? >> all right, tom llamas, leading us off again tonight. tom, thank you. many believe it is make or break for governor jeb bush tonight. spending more than any other candidate here in new hampshire, $30 million. and tonight, abc's jonathan karl on the campaign trail, finding himself suddenly driving behind jeb bush's bus. and jon had a few questions for the candidate, counting on new hampshire to survive. >> reporr: we're driving through manchester and, of course, run into the jeb bush bus. we're going to follow along because i bet he's going to a polls station. and sure enough, he was. bush wading through a sea of for votes. so, governor, what do you say so somebody who is still undecided right now? >> reporter: that's right. he says he is moving on. in ct, they have eight events scheduled over the nexex few days in south carolina, where they will also be campaigning with foer president george w. bush, his brother, and they have one big advantage, still, david, they have more campaign cash than most of his rivals. >> all right, jon karl with us tonight. jon, thank you. meantime, on the democratic side tonight, a uphill battle for hillary clinton, who did well here eight yearsp ago. new hampshire voters gave her new life after iowa, but this time, a different story leading in. trailing bernie sanders by double digits going into the primary. here in his own backyard. clinton has struggles to engaj younger voters, where sanders and here's what we're learning from the exit polls coming in right now. 3 in 10 voters saying honesty and trustworthiness are the characteristics most important to them. 7 in 10 voters describe themselves as liberals. that's higher than in the past. and more saying that income inequality, the economy and jobs are their top issues. abc's cecilia vega out with the sanders team and one-on-one with clinton tonight. >> reporter: hillary clinton's sprint to the finish line today started right here in manchester. what is your prediction for tonight? >> of course. >> reporter: why is that? >> because we get to vote. we set the pace for country. and conflicted voters deciding between candidates at the last minute here. let's get right to george stepepnopoulos, who will lead our coverage of the results tonight as they come in and georor, first off, the republicans. what are you watching for? >> can donana trump close the deal? he's led in new hampshire for 200 straight days. most of those days in double digits. but we saw, as tom llamas mentioned before, that in iowa, his performance didn't match his poll numbers. will that happen again or will he revers that? if he reverses it, he is the strong front runner agai and then, secondly, do the results on the republican side foe people out of the race or give them more incentive to stay in? and those governors, jeb bush, john kasich, chris christie, if they either go ahead of marco rubio or stay close to him, they're going stay in this race, no matter what. and that could be good news for donald trump, if he'sot this split field. >> and george, on the dimmic icdemocratic so, what does hillary clinton have to do here?
