Yes, that message is very disturbing and there will be extra security here at the high school. Five Police Officers and then two at each of the middle schools. Now, lets just take a peek at this note so you can see what were talking about. The threat made reference to columbine shootings and said, quote, i will make columbine look like a fing joke. End quote. It included a swastika. Bathroom and School Authorities immediately contacted Lakewood Police. They have investigated the threat ever since and take it very seriously. Again, not to alarm anyone, but they are taking this seriously and they are investigating it. They want anyone with information to call Lakewood Police. We get answers after a man was shot and killed by police after refusing to drop an Assault Rifle in akron sunday. Brian were told the officer has been with the Akron Police Department for two years. Nichole vrsansky has the latest now on this investigation. Nichole were still waiting to hear the name of the suspect and the name of the officer involved in this case. The officer is on administrative leave while the investigation standard procedure. The incident happened in broad daylight just after 3 00 yesterday afternoon with plenty of neighbors around to witness what happened. I was sleeping. I was getting up from a nap, and then i heard pow, pow, pow, gunshots. Then the police told him to drop his weapon three or four times, but he wouldnt drop his shotgun. Nichole the suspect was a 61yearold man. Police say he had an Assault Rifle. Officers were originally responding to a fight between the suspect and another man. When they arrived, they say the suspect was behind an apartment complex near a parked van. Police say the suspect reached inside that van, pulled out the weapon. Officers say they yelled several times for the suspect to put the weapon down. He did not. Thats when the officers shot the support in the torso. Its kind of sad, but the Police Officer the police did what they had to do. Nichole the suspect did later die at an autopsy is scheduled to be performed. We checked in with the Summit County coroners office. They dont have an update at this time and have not released the suspects name. Tia. It was gorgeous outside 3 30 on florida avenue in the neighborhood. A lot of people were home and outside, and a lot of people saw and heard what happened. Witnesses reported hearing yelling and gunshots. Police say a 61yearold man had been fighting with another man. They tracked the 61yearold down behind an apartment complex. Investigators say the suspect reached into a parked vehicle and grabbed an Assault Rifle. Officers say they ordered the man to put the weapon down and he did not. They shot him and he later died at the hospital. Neighbors say its sad, but they feel lik they had to do. Im sending prayers not just for his family but for the Police Officer. You know, they do this every day. Its not about black and white. Its about that you live to see another day. He was doing his job. Nichole the names of the suspect and the officer who shot him have not yet been released. The officer were told has been with akron police for two years.
