Welcome to huntington, one of money magazines best banks in america. live from clevelands news center, cleveland 19 news starts now. weve got one more trip around ohio. this coming fall we will beat Hillary Clinton and i will become the president of the united states. thank you all very much and god bless you. john kasich made good on his promise to win ohio and Hillary Clinton claimed victory in the Buckeye State as well. and tonight the path to the white house is becoming clear. p tony we want to get to dan deroos who has been monitoring the results since the polls closed three and a half hours p dan we aring we aring looing at the republican side. tonight was a big night for donald trump. he wins florida and thats 99 delegates. he wins North Carolina and thats proportional. we get a new color on the map. thats because our own governor wins his first state in these primary elections. and he wins it with a pretty nice victory. it is 46 to 30 sick . 36 . 66 delegates is what he will pick up. donald trump wins that as well 39 to 30 . missouri is still counting its votes. but look at this, with 99 in trump at 42 and ted cruz at 41 and thats too close to call with 99 of the vote in and we will have to watch that. and now the democratic map it is a huge night for Hillary Clinton. carolina and she takes ohio. she is up just a little bit in illinois with 77 of the vote. when we go to missouri this may be a Bernie Sanders only chance for a win. 62 of the vote in and he is up 5148. back to you guys. p tony thank you, dan. kasich. his results came in early. it was called early. p romona at Baldwin University they were celebrating. sara goldenburg has the latest. p reporter this was a big night for governor john kasich. he remains in the race after a big win in ohio. Baldwin wallace is empty yes, sir now. wallace is emptier now. now, the results came back pretty fast and this was a big win for kasich and right before the results came in he trump in ohio. it was a must win. he would drop out of the race. as he took the stage with his family by the side he said we will not take the low road to the highest office in the land. kasich has not run a positive campaign and we spoke with his supporters. he loves america and he is a good man. i think he is the best person qualified for the job. after seeing everything he has done in the state. we both voted for john kasich today, because he can bring people together. my idea is to stop trump and stop cruz. we put one foot in front of the other and i want to remind you again tonight that i will highest office in the land. kasich says his common sense conservatism will do well as a message across the nation. He says he plans to be back in cleveland in july for the rnc. as of tonight here in ohio he picked up 66 is delegates, but he has a long road ahead of him. live in berea, cleveland 19. p romona thank you, sara. while he didnt win ohio donald trump is still front runner on the gop side. and he still thinks he will be their candidate come november. i think we are going to go and we are going to do a lot of trips over the next month, but i think we will have a great victory and more importantly than anything else we will start winning again. this country will start winning again. we dont win anymore. p tony Hillary Clinton was winning. she won three states including ohio and appears to be well on her way to winning the democratic nomination. lead to roughly 300 with over two million more votes nationwide. [applause]. we are moving closer to securing the Democratic Party nomination and winning this election in november. p tony where does that leave better thee sanders . he is still hopeful he can keep up with hillary. the truth is not only is is not always pleasant. it is not always what we want to hear, but we cannot go forward unless we deal with the realities of American Society today and that is what we are going to do. p romona and then there were three. just a few hours ago marco rubio suspended his campaign. i be president in 2016 or maybe ever, and while my campaign is suspended, the fact i have even come this far is evidence of how special america truly is. and all the reason more we must do all we can to ensure this nation row mains a special place. p romona paul joins us with a guest to talk about that. paul . a a question i found interesting is he was suspending he was not quitting the campaign, but he is is suspending. what is the difference . they will keep the organizations going and it is something he can use to support other candidates. it is to support any future run he might make. i think it is how decisive the win was for john kasich. looks like around 37, 38 . and thats the popular vote he received so far going into this. he has had a hard time pushing that above 50 . thats one of his challenges Going Forward. it happened in ohio where they coalesced one around one candidate. probably cruz people as well who bought into the strategy that if you want to stop trump we have to support kasich in ohio. is it more than a bump in the road . it is a real challenged to get to the 50 . he has to get a large number of the delegates Going Forward. thats a real challenge and taking this pleur rail tee and plurality and it will have to he will have to shift his strategy if he will achieve that. what do you make of the polls . this is neck and neck. it is not neck and neck. we have seen this before in it was a landslide. so many people have cell phones and they are not being reached on those lines and they are looking at small samples. even looking at the averages of many polls it doesnt predict what is going to happen. kasich did better than the polls predicted. thank you very much. back to you guys at the desk. p tony probably the most heated race in northeast ohio is for kaya toe go county pros dsh dash Cuyahoga County prosecutor. 54 now to 46. omalley surged ahead. scott taylor surged ahead. scott . with me now. you started out the night as kind of an underdog. absentee ballots. Since then you surged. can you explain that at all . it is not over. i am still cautiously optimistic. what we are seeing is our campaign has gained a lot of momentum. the voters are hearing the message i am trying to resend them about confidence in the office. it is fairly and impartially pursuing justice. certainly the issues involving mr. Mcgintys chief Financial Officer played a role as well. Over the last two or three peeks people are hearing our message. today at the polls the response was overwhelming. i covered the county from east to west and it was consistant throughout the county. i think this is a victory for the people of the county. i am going to take that office and the Justice System in a new direction. are you ready to declare victory . no. i am cautiously optimistic. of the vote in, but it is trending in the right direction. if you do end up winning tonight, what is the number one thing you want to do in office the first day when you step in . what is is the number one issue you want to tackle . first and foremost it is trying to meet with the local prosecutors. i wanted to meet with the prosecutors so we have consistency in the lowlevel felony cases. that was my pledge a month ago and that was the first order of business to get that done. he is leading right now and tim mcginty for the prosecutors office. where is mr. Mcginty . he is in his office, the prosecutors office. we will get a window of about 15 to 20 minutes before he speaks. when he does well let you know. live in cleveland, scott taylor, cleveland 19. p tony dr. Edward horowitz good to see you. p romona thanks for joining us. lets talk about kasich. he said he would win ohio and he did. how did he do it . i heard from a lot of people who said they would cross over to stop trump and vote for kasich is. you said you have some interesting exit polling. the question about whether people were crossing over is happening. we knew from the cuyahoga board of elections they said lots of democrats were asking for republican ballots. i saw three people do that at my polling place. i think there was a lot of interest to vote for john kasich. he won in almost every category. he won for all men and women and he won that and won with College People who have a College Degree. trumps base came out for him. people who identify themselves as not having a College Degree identified as having more blue collar folks voted for trump and people who identified that financially they are worried about the future, they voted more for trump. that suggests the trump base is strong here. he still has a number of supporters. the question is does kasich has momentum to go forward . will the states follow this lead . will the dump Trump Movement continue and will kasich be the one to carry the flag . ramona and i were talking and you want to see kasich take this up a level in terms of presentation and be stronger, do you agree with that . absolutely. suddenly there are three people. trump will be in the middle, but now kasich is on the opposite side. he will be hit hard by both those candidates coming up. they are not gonna want to let him continue the momentum. john kasich has said he will take the high road and he will not take the low road. how much of a bunching bag can he stand . for being prickly. he can be tough with the reporter and public. p romona quickly we have to get in the democrats. Hillary Clinton won ohio, big here. should bier thee give up . will bernie give up . she took the whole last week to fight back on all of the attention all of the attacks he had on her trade agreements. she said she would stand for that. Going Forward she will do that. She won 54 of union voters. That suggest ises she has a lot of support. she continues to win africanamerican votes. you can see how she was in the south. she is very strong Going Forward. what Bernie Sanders supporters will do if he does president win this race, thats the if he doesnt win this race. she needs those votes. they went for obama and general election. p romona thank you for injoing us. You can worry about them. You can even choose a car for them. mom honey, are you ok . child im ok. announcer vo love. mom were ok. announcer vo its what makes a subaru, a subaru. p romona thanks for staying with us this is an expanded version of cleveland 19 news and for the next half hour we will be giving you numbers from across the country. p tony ryan nobles is joining us live from miami. p reporter hi, ramona and tony. when this night started hillary and trump were the front runners runners in their respective parties. now that we counted the votes they are the front runners and their leads are more commanding. we had a fantastic evening and never thought this could have happened. thisy sealed the deal with a they sealed the deal with a big victory. marco rubio said he is success success he is suspending his campaign. while we will not be on the right while we will be on the right side, we will not be on the winning side. giving the campaign much needed momentum. will not take the low road land. kasichs victory makes trumps march more difficult. a contested convention in july although the billionaire real estate mogul is still firmly ahead in this race. we have to bring this party together. on the democratic side Hillary Clinton won big in North Carolina. this is another super tuesday jie. And it showed she can win in the midwest with a win in ohio. we are moving closer to securing the Democratic Party nomination and winning this election in november. while clinton is walking away with more delegates sanders still sees a path to the nomination. we will win if the voter turnout is is high. lets make it high. thank you all very much. p reporter and republicans who hoped that they would put together a coal legislation a coalition that would prevent trump from getting to the magic delegate number before the Republican Convention pieces fall into place. john kasich did win in ohio, but ted cruz fell short in both illinois and missouri from cutting into big significant donald trump leads. meaning all of the delegates he lost in ohio he is probably going to make up in those two states. ramona and tony, back to you. p romona there are a few other races we are waiting for the results. Do you have any status on those . p reporter i am looking at my board right now and the race in missouri on the republican side, 99 of the precincts have reported. it is less than a percentage point that separate donald trump and ted cruz right now. it is somewhere in the range of 3,000 votes. and they are still counting. we also continue have a final verdict in missouri between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. percentage lead with thiept of 90 of their votes cast. in illinois we are waiting on a final verdict. it is important to point out even though there is a symbolic lift to winning these states, like in missouri for instance, even if ted cruz were to win, the del gets are apportioned out by a congressional district. you do get a sizable chink of delegates for chunk of delegates for winning the whole thing. donald trump has already won a number of congressional delegates. it is hard to look for Silver Linings if you are a fan of any other candidate. p tony you mentioned ted cruz and not a lot of talk about him. of course trump dominates the conversation. but moving forward as we look ahead to next week, a week from tonight in arizona, i can kasich keep up . kasich will probably not even participate in arizona. he will go to pennsylvania. he views pennsylvania as the next big state where he has a real shot. cruz will try to make a last ditch effort to win some of the southern states, but he has thought shown a capacity he can win any of these southern states. he
