live from clevelands news center, cleveland 19 news starts now. p romona breaking news tonight involving the death of a 3yearold girl in canton. weve learned in the past 90 minutes that the girls father is now facing a murder charge. p denise tonight sara goldenburg spoke exclusively with the girls grandmother who was dealing with the heartbreaking situation. i just got off the phone with little hayleys grand parents. they were devastated by the loss and were upset to hear that their son matt has been charged with her murder. no matter what they want truth and justice for hayley. hayley brings her grandmother, karen, to tears. she always had a smile on her face. she was beautiful. she was an angel. p reporter Canton Police say hayleys dad called 911 around 11 on friday morning and said he found his daughter dead in her bed. he sounded distraught and said hayley fell on the steps a week ago. losing a child nobody should have to go through that. a child is someone you cherish. they are a gift from heaven. you dont abuse a child no matter what. p reporter matt is karens stepson. she hasnt seen him in two years. we havent spoke to matthew in a very longtime. we always had problems with matt. we never stopped loving him. p reporter she last saw hayley in november. she hoped to see her soon to give her her christmas presents. i still have her christmas i should have given them to her on thanksgiving, but i thought she would be home for christmas. p reporter she says hayleys mom had full custody of her, and she was just visiting her dad and his girlfriend. if someone did kill her, they need to pay to the fullest of the law. there is no excuse. nobody should be able to get away with killing a child. grandma and grandpa loves her and we miss her and just keep smiling and flying high with the angels. p reporter matts girlfriend, 21yearold Jessica Bender has been charged with child endangerment. hayleys family has set up a go fund me account to help pay for her funeral expenses. we have that information on cleveland 19.
