>> i loved it. itas great debate. we had some fun. i had a great time. i'm happy with the results. with jeb bush on eminent domain. the facts seem to be on his side. let me explain it first. vera cokeing. you and the authority in new jersey wanted to take her house for a parking lot. for a casino. you fought it for three years. the state supreme court said trump, not t public, stood t to benefit from the seizures and the deal was analogous to giving trump a blank check for future development. >> and you know what i did, i let the court stand as opposed to going higher up. well it was the state supreme court. >> we could have gone higher. i decided not to do it. not the pursue it. >> a three-year fight. >> doesn't matter. we could have gone a different way. i offered her a bunch of money. she sold the house for much less ththan what i offered. eminent domain is a big thing. the bush family, i found this they used eminent domain for the stadium in texas where the own i guess a piece of the texas rangers. >> that was george w. bush. >> that doesn't matter. it was the family. he dn't tell anybody this. he probably doesn't know. i don think he knows w what eminent domain is. >> so no second thoughts about your position at all? >> eminent domain is important. you wouldn't have highways, roadway, bridge, hospitals. you wouldn't have anything without it. the keystone pipeline. everybody wants that. if you're a conservative, y want the keystone pipeline. they have a whole section of eminent domain. they have ahole section. >> the crowd once on your side. >> the crowd was on my side except they were all friends of mine that were donors and special interests and lobbyists. some of them word for me in the past. the people in that audience were the people that were supporting all of the candidates. i'm the only candidate not taking money. >> you had no supporters in the crowd? >> had 20 tickets. they gave me 0 sixties. all o of the people in the crowd, 90% of them were people that gave to the various candidates. and mostly to bush. bush got there are 128 million. he's nowhere. he's spent over there are 100 million on t this failed campaign of his. he's nowhere. those people were in the aud yins. rubio said, he said, why does nobody get response but bush? i j just think it's really showing the system. when you have somebody like me, where i don't take money, where i'm a self-funder, people really appreciate that. that's why i brought it out last night. it was a good point, i think. >> waterboarding front and center last night. you said, i would bring back waterboarding and hell of a lot worse than water-boarding. what did you have in snimpbltd i said bore that we're living in a world where in the middle east they're cutting people's heads off. a christian's h head off. james foley, what a wonderful young man. i said, yes, i would bring back waterboarding. i would make it a hell of a lot worse. >> what did you have in mind? >> i had in mind going worse than water-boarding. it's enough. we have a country under siege from a people. we're living in medieval times. if i have it to do, i if it' up to me, i would absolutely bring back waterboarding. if it's tougher than that, i would bring it back, too. >> you would authorizetorture. i would absolutely authorize something beyond waterboarding. it will be effective. george, you have our enemy cutting heads off of christians or others. >> do we wip by being more like them? we're going to bring pple together. that's your thing. other peoeople hav their thing. we hav to bring all people together. if we don't, we're not going to have a country anymore. just last sunday, you said you would consider appointing justices -- >> we're talking about bringing people together. i would appoint justice, which would take a long me. >> but you want them to overturn the supreme court decision. >> i would appoint them and see how they vote. >> how does that move us to equality? >> we'll find out. a lot of people want to see that. more important than anything else to me, this country is so divided right now, as per her question, this country is so totally divided. it's pbably almost never been as divided. we have to bring it together. >> a majority of americans support the idea of gay marriage. >> it's been determined. we will see what happens. we're going look at judges. they have to be great judges. conservative judges who are depending on their views. that would be my preference. >> wre do you want them to stand? >> you know, george, um -- i -- it's really -- quite -- sad. to see what senator rubio is becoming in this campaign. erybody understands that he is diving as far right as he possibly can. you know, i've been on record for many years about where i stand on abortion. how it should be safe and legal. and i have thehe same position that i've had for a very long time. but what's really going on here is an effort by the republicans, to keep pushing as far as they can to overturn roe v. wade. to defund planned parenthood. >> are there any situations you would accept? >> i have been on the record for that long ti. life and health of the mother, rapend incest have to be taken into account. when he raiaises the, you know, very, very difficult issue of late-term abortion, he conveniently overlooks the fact that there are medical reasons. there are health-related reasons. i've met women who have had to face this excruciating choice. this is not something that anyone that i've ever met with enters into without theeepest thought, the most careful consideration. and, i remember an event back in the '90s where we sat and talked with some of the women who -- had to make a very hard decision. you know, it' just so unfortunate that politicians politicize these kinds of very difficult concerns. and i don't think he should be allowed to get away with that. >> you had yourwn debate this week with bernie sanders as we. you challenged him to comome you have with evidence that contradictions contributions from wall street every changed your position. he circulated something from senator warren. >> one of the first bills that came up after sheas senator clinton was the bank ruft si bill. >> and. >> she voted in favor. she has taken money from the groups and more to the point, she worries about them as a constituency. >> how do you respond to that charge? >> well, i'm glad you asked me about it. because this is one of these innuendo insinuation charges th the sanders campaign is engaging in. >> that was senator warren, though. but if you played the entire quote you would have heard her say, she and i worked together in 20 to stop a bankruptcy billllat t we both believed was very harmful. when i got to the senate in 2001, one of the first big vote there isas on a version of the bankruptcy bill. i was deluged by women's groups and children's advocate groups to do everything i could to make sure that child support and women's precarious financial siation in case of divorce or not being able to get the kind of funding they needed from a partner or a spouse in bankruptky would not be endangered. it was. that bill was making it a very low priority. soy did go to wor on behalf of these women's groups and children's group. becausee they neede a champion. i got that bill changed. in return, it had nothing to do with any money whatsoever. by the sanders campaign to so imply. i had to do with trying to get a deal that would protect women. let me finish. this has been bantied about. i want to set the record straight. so then, three years later, part of what senator warren said, you played you didn't play the whole thing, because we have been allies. i faced a tough decision. and i stood up for women and children. i went to the senate floor, said that was exactly what i was doing. the bill didn't pass. it never became law. when the next bill came up, 2005,women's issues were taken care of, because i hadad made that a point backk in 2001. and so, then, i was against that bill. i didn't get chance to vote against it because bill was in the hospital having a heart procedure, but i i put a statement out i was against it. i'm happy to set this record straight. i want to once again call out the sanders campaign, which clai they likee to run a positive campaign. raising questions and trying to cast doubts about my record. and i really am n not gng to sit and take it anymore. i have a public record, i have never ever been influenced in a view or a vote by anyone who has given me any kind of funding. and -- so, i'm just going to keep setting the record straight. >> in her book, senator warren said the bill was essentially the same but hillary rodham clinton was not. big banks were part of her constituency. she wanted their support, they wanted hers. >> i have t greatest respect for senator warren. as i said, we did work together. i faced a choice. i cld have said to the women who have been my advocates for 30 year, i'm sorry. i'i'm in t senate now. i can't help you. nobody else was helping them. they were desperate to get help. they were afraid child support would be below credit card debt and left behind and badly dajd. i could have said, i c can't do that. somebody in ten years might say thatat somethi else was going on. that's not the way i work. they came to me. i went to the floor. i lobbied to get it changed. and, as part of getting the change from both democrat thess and republicans, they said if we change the bill at the last minute to take account of the issues you're raising, about women and children, which they had not made a priory before i showed up, then, you know, you have to say you'll vote for it. it was, look, that's what you have to do. i swallowed hard. i said okay. it was also the case, it didn't get passed. i got whati needed into the ll. it stayed in the bill, even in a bad version that i posed in 2005. thank you for the opportunity to set the record straight. >> in the debate the other night, you said you would looook intohether or not to release the transcripts of your speeches to financial groups. >> yeah, here's another thing i want to say. let everybody release everything peep they've made to a private group. we'll release them at the same time. i don't mind being the sbt in republican debates, the democratic primary. it goes with the territory. at some appointment, you know, these rules need to apply to everybody. and there are a bunchf folks, including my opponent who has given, you ow erks speech, speeches to groups people on the other side who have giv speeches groups. if this is a new standard, it should apply to everybody. then i'll be happy to look into it further. >> madame secretary. thank you for your time this morning. >> great to talk to you, george. thanks. we'll be back with "the roundtable." debate and the road from here? over the course of the campaign. will everybody see him through this lens? they were going after him on, the governors, especially christie were going after him on and that you heard in the sound important one. the truth is, up until 2008, we only elected two sitting senators ever president. and then in 2008, there were two senators running against each other. so you had to pick a senanator. obama's big resesume poi was not the united states senate. for these guys. they don't have accomplishments to point to. you're in the senate, you have to cast votes. and you do on one side and the other of something because of the way legislation works. and so, the come pin nationbination of the fact that he has the senate, and rst term senate around his neck and he keeps saying the same thing over and over again, people are saying, what are you good at? >> is that what voters see? watch him take on barack obama. is this something he just can come back from easily or is it like rick perry in the oops moment in 2008. >> david french had a good piece. rick perry with the horrible moment in 2012, too. on t other hand, mitt romney he couldn't explain why he wouldn't rls income tax forms. i think if you're christie, certainly kasich or bush. i think kasich will do well here. you don't think i'm getting out. >> all three of them can stay? >> they can. maybe whichever runs the lowest wiwill getout. a week ago, trump was supposed to win. he lost the cruz. though bump. maybe he's another huckabee or santorum. rub know rubio has momentum. oops, he stumbled. if were advising kasich or bush or mare chris tee, i would isn't there another debate saturday? >> marco rubio was supposed to be the rock star to transcend the messiness of the republican party. he came out with a prerecorded stump speech in his head. he couldn' hit pause to respond to chris christie. chris christie prosecuted marco rubio. he came back to the stump speech. unlike obama, and then he stalled. i think it was bad night. >> he h ads on exactly is tame stop that same clip son tv otheris on tv over and over. >> donald trump shohowed a lot of different sides of himself last night. he had to be help with the fact that, besides the exception of jeb bush on eminent domain, nobody else took him on. >> i think it was a perfect storm with donald trump and john kasich. he wanted to recover from the iowa loss. he gets the guy coming up close to him gets battered around in the course of the debate. he had a fewewshots. he basically staid on even keel in the course of this. if we go into election night on tuesday, we may announce that new hampshire picks presidents and they're going to pick a democratic socialist on one side the that happens and a reality tv star on th other side. but new hampshire may be picking those two people as who they think is president. >> meantime, ted cruz last night as well. no one touched him after the apology to ben carson. >> i guess it was a lot of reagan last night. reagan's 11th commandment. no one turned the other cheek on reeb yo. cruz didn't want to perform. he wanted to get out of the way. he was beaten up in iowa. i agree with matt. all the time, who do you most fear. i don't fear anybody. but, kasich last night, he talked as if he was lng past new hampshire into the fall. he talked to i think -- the fears of republicans, but the hopes of many americans. so i think he's one to watch leaving this state. >> more people stay in, bill kristol. the e more peoe that stay in, the better it is for trump, isn't it? >> maybe. the late deciders went against trump in a big way. i think he'll underperform his poll number. i don't thing it's out of the question that john kasasich cou make it a close race. i think he'll become, of governors, the one with the best chance. >> he p put all his chips here in this state. >> i think we feel this field has to get nair proepd i'm not sure the voters believe that pip and be pretty strong. maybe this year's different. seems like it's bn different from different years. every time since the modern primary system, '7, republicans have nominated someone who won either iowa or new hampshirire. you have to be vn first or second in both parties to win the nomination. trump is a weird wild card. cruz is sitting ll. that is not nothing. coming in first or second in new hampshire would be big. >> and he goes into much more fertile territory for him as we go south. >> march 1st. >> right. the other thing is the rules have made it easier for people to stay in. you don't get to waner take all primary until the middle of marnl. marc and you can have these superpacs to make it easier for people to stay in. >> march 15th, florida and ohio. both on the same day, both if rubio, kasich, bush stay in, it could go to the cop vengs. >> i think this goes for sure into april. even if jeb bush finishes fourth or fifth, he's going to go on. i'm the guy at the can step up and to that. even if kasich finishes second here, i don't think he has the resources to have a fullm pact by march 1st. maybe later on. both sides of this, democratic and republican, is going to go long into the spring and maybe early summer. may. >> the latest poll has 58. bernie sanders, 35. hillary clinton, 23-point lead for bernie sanders. back. >> the clintons are 1 for 2 in they're they're2 for 2 in terms of spinning new hampshire. i think it will be a ten-point defeat. they have a ground game here. they're going to continue to move those voters who are undecided along the massachusetts border. they'll g give bernie sanders the western, the northern part. they're going to make this part of the state their battle ground. >> if you said months ago, i think hillary clinton can spin a 10-point defeat to 74-year-old bernie sanders here in new hampshire. it's notable. i don't know why everybody assumes, once we get through the first two states, where sanders has been 50-50, suddenly it will change. >> it won't. bernie sanders could be the democratic nominee. it's a fact. >> and you're inviting. >> george and donna -- sanders are the nominees in the major parties, welcome michael bloomberg. >> wall street is playing the same kind of partisan issue that iraq played i in 2008. it's become a very important issue for democrats. and i think, bernie has captured that on the democratic side. his ability to get independents and young people, that is really -- >> what did you make about how hillary clinton handled that issue this morning. calling out bernie sanders for this came pain of innuendo? >> there's a loft viral on. it's rattling nerves. i thihink human rights campaign. or -- lawmakers saying that that's not the record. look, we're having our fight on the democrating side. it's energizing. it's engaging. >> i think when a candidate has to say, it's very complicated. sanders on economic policies. that's a true statement. if she were confident to win the debate, she could say, yes, we have pretty digbig difference. he's a socialist. >> gandhi said integrity is when your thoughts, words, and actions are in alignment. a lot of democratic voters -- >> wow, we have matt d dowd quoting gandhi. >> we have all seen it. you're judged by your contributors and your friends. that doesn't do away. when she takes $20 million from wall street and givives speeches to goldman sack, she has to come up with answers. >> i'm proud that under my husband's leadership thihis economy did well. it can do wel for wall street and for me. there's a sensible clinton democrat answer to bernie sanders. what was most striking about her con ver says with you is she's what's in new york? wall street. >> she makes that argument. >> it doesn't help. >> i want to pick up on what pill w saying. is the clinton am, once they get beyond new hampshire, going to have to start making the socialism? are they going to have to take it on directly? >> they'll have to find way to address the insecurities of americans that feel they've been left behind. at the same time, the aspirations of those -- >> that's not what i asked. >> i'll be donald trump. she didn't answer the question. >> hey, guess what? but, as a southerner, i know bernie sanders is going to be able to compete in the south. if he comes out of this state with a double-digit lead in terms of his national support, not national support, winning in give them hell in the south. >> could he win south carolina?
