"animals are unpredictable at any given time." when buddy didn't come up to the barn for his morning grain last friday ... his owners knew something was wrong. it was just one week after denise and her family first welcomed buddy into their home when the horse suddenly was nowhere to be found. the kids spread out for a search all over the neighborhood with no luck. but once people heard buddy was a therapy horse for kids .... others were stepping up to the plate. "so many people reached out to us, told us they were going to keep an eye out." volunteers were ready to drop their turkey and stuffing today ... determined to bring buddy home. "people to give up their holiday for us? i feel very blessed." but the executive director of the animal rescue league of iowa wasted no time. he traveled to colfax on wednesday and set out on his own. then came the call denise was anxiously waiting for. "i don't know how he did it, but he found him in a field. he had to use binoculars to see him and it took me even a while to see him." he found buddy just a mile away from the barn in good health. "he wasn't tired, he wasn't wet, he wasn't thirsty. we don't know if someone actually had him and let him loose by us, or if he's been there this whole time" no one knows for sure where buddy traveled for five days. back home ... safe and sound. "it's the best thanksgiving present ever. one more thing to be thankful for." stephanie: denise says they haven't let buddy out of the barn yet and wont for a while. especially as it gets colder. the jasper county sheriff's office also stepped in to help look for buddy. stephanie/ots though it's not technically black friday yet, bargin hunters were not about to miss out on the chance to power shop. a handfull of stores around the metro opened earlier this evening. local 5 talked to a shoppers who went from the thanksgiving dinner table to the checkout line. tari gaulke, shopper: "kind of crazy, and i know that a lot of people don't like it, and i hate that people have to work on this day, it's called black friday ... but stores are opening their doors earlier and earlier. "thanksgiving day is a time for us to gather as friends and family and express our apperceation for the challenges that we have met and the many blessings that are families communities and state have experinced " stephanie: church members start thanksgiving every year with this annual special congregation. stephanie: and at hope ministries -- more than two hundred people served and delivered thanksgiving meals today. volunteers boxed up the turkey and all the traditional fixings, before delivering them to 22-hundred families in need across the metro. on top of that, they served 400 meals in their own cafeteria. long-time volunteers say this tradition is a win-win. bob myers, volunteer: "it's kind of a fulfilling, satisfaction when you go out and help people, and they're going up to you and you're kind of making their day, and they don't realize how much they're actually making your day." stephanie: hope ministries is celebrating its one hundredth year. they expect to be servng even more people as winter sets in., stephanie: at a sioux city restaurant -- a family gave up their holiday today to help others. you may remember, last week , we told you how rebos restaurant was raising money to serve thanksgiving dinner to people who needed a meal. well today, the there was lots of conversation number of people who were purely thankful.
