" nats - sanders rally tonight the count down in iowa... is getting ugly. sot trump: "ted cruz, who was not born on u-s soil - it's a problem!" republicans -- donald trump and marco rubio - both attacking ted cruz. sot rubio: "he's decided to run a very, y'know, deceitful campaign at the end on some things he's saying...people see through that." sot cruz: "six weeks ago, everyone in the field was attacking donald trump. now, attacking me." nearly all the candidates - are now hawkeye state.... democrat - hillary bill and chelsea. clinton also addressed the state department decision... to declare 22 emails sent from her private account "top secret"... in this interview with cnn. send or receive emails each rally - each townhall - courting undecided sot - heather carlson, i'm looking for is, like, the genuineness that maybe you can only get from seeing them in person." clinton's opponent -- bernie sanders -- is also drawing big crowds... confident he can win monday... and in november. sot sanders: "many of the polls suggest we can beat people like donald trump and beat 'em pretty badly." brandi hitt on camera: well, the clinton and sanders campaigns are also now going "back and forth" about whether the two should debate each other again next week... ahead of the new hampshire primary... along with possibly adding three more debates through the spring. brandi hitt, abc news, des moines, iowa."" nikki: those candidates are extremely busy this weekend... trying to reach as many iowans as possible before monday. we had a chance to sit down with one of those candidates. local 5's sabrina ahmed spoke with ted cruz earlier today. senator ted cruz - we are two days away, all the time for the media attacks, all the noise, all of that has passed. this is all about the men and women of iowa. the men and women of iowa making a decision and what we're focusing every waking moment on is asking for the support of the men and women grassroots team. we've got over two volunteers nationwide. we've got over twelve thousand ground here in iowa. but, the great thing is the men and women of iowa take very seriously their responsibilities first in the nation. to examine and study the records, and what we're seeing is as conservatives, conservatives are campaign. one of the seeing in this race is the washington establishment is abandoning marco rubio. i think they've determined marco can't win, and they're flocking to donald trump. now, in both instances, the reason they say is that they want someone who will go along to get along. they want someone who will cut a deal. both bob dole and trent lott recently said that they'd be fine with donald trump because they can work with him. he'll cut a deal. trump went on t.v. and said he thought the to get along. he won't cut deals with democrats in washington. and, he, donald trump, will do that, and marco rubio, we've seen in the gang of eight amnesty bill. marco rubio is very happy to cut deals with democrats even if he promised the voters he'd do something else. sabrina - and, of course, it all comes down to voter turn out, as he said, so it will be very interesting race and it will be very interesting to see what transpires come monday night. for your local election headquarters, from ames, i'm sabrina ahmed, local five news, we are iowa." nikki: and if you're sitting on the fence about who to caucus for, one group in des moines says they have a solution. it's a sport with plenty of attacks and defense, just like the campaign trail. local five's jacob peklo has more from a different kind of political tournament. jacob peklo, reporting: "so far, there have been a lot of ways that people have been determining who's winning these caucuses. on saturday, a group of fencers decided they're going to take a stab at determining the winner." julia walter, urbandale resident: "usually we practice on saturday and we kind of upped the ante and was something really fun for our saturday practices." on saturday, the fate of the political parties lay in the balance. lance carlson, west des moines resident: "picking corn is great, but this is way more fun, and i think politics needs more swords." natural sound: "marco rubio!" "cruz." each fencer donned some political gear to represent each presidential candidate, natural sound of patting the name tag in place and whichever fencer could survive the swipes and lunges, with the most attacks of their own would live in to the next round. natural sound: "ready? fence!" kevin powell, head coach at red door fencing: "maybe there's a candidate that they're not as big a fan of and they'll get to hit them a lot." julia walter, urbandale resident: "i lost most of them. i had to halt a couple bouts just because there were stickers everywhere." lance carlson was a political science major during college, natural sound of swords clinging and he says this tournament was the perfect way to mix two of his favorite interests. lance carlson, west des moines resident: "it's very appropriate to have fencing represent the political trail, with all the attacking and the defending that happens, especially during this last push ahead of the caucuses." the round robin format allowed everyone the time to opponents to see who'd stand out. natural sound of swords separating while there was many a parry on the floor, it was not enough to foil some of the upset bids. lance carlson, west des moines resident: "i think having the names behind me actually helped me really take victory and have their campaign energy." jacob peklo, reporting: "the primary event was pretty successful and they're hoping that come the general election in november, they'll be able to do this all over again.
