Jon 2bam yeah jack she sat down with outside the lines yesterday coming up on local 5 sports hear what the results have done for the sash family and their peace of mind. Jon welcome back. When news broke that tyler sash was diagnosed with cte it grabbed attention across the nation. Yesterday sashs mother and brother sat down with espns outside the line to talk about their reaction to the news and how they saw it impact tyler. According to tyler sashs brother he suffered multiple concussion before turning pro and suffered a few more in the nfl. At the time he probably thought a concussion is a concussion you sit out for a week or whatever the protocol was at the time and then you just move forward you continue to play the game a game that hes played his whole life. Sashs career came to an end in 2013 after being cut by the ny giants. It wasnt long after that sashs mother barnetta noticed behavior that wasnt typical. He just displayed some characteristics that were never in him. He would get anxious, at times he would get a little short tempered just made it a little more difficult for him to complete a task. Late with the medical report showing that sash suffered from level 2 cte the same level that 43 year old nfl legend junior seau was found with. Cte is a brain disease that is caused by repeated brain trauma such as a concussion. That is caused by repeated brain trauma such as a concussion. The diagnosis lead to mixed emotions for sashs family. Most importantly it gave them understanding for why tyler hadnt been himself. First of all after they explained what kind of damage it does to the brain i had a deep sadness that my son suffered his last couple of years and we couldnt put our finger on what was wrong. In another way it was clarity it helped us to understand what was going on and things seemed to make sense when we realized the parts of disease. Over the last couple of years as we saw things go on we just knew that it made a lot more sense to us so it gave us clarity. Jon sashs family donated his brain to be examined for the impacts from concussions following his death by accidental Drug Overdose in september. Cte is not an exclusive to football players. Athletes in hockey, boxing, and other sports with contact have been found with the disease as well.
