halled before a judge today. derrol nail has the latest on the case. derrol, an awful attack. a deputy beaten with a collapsible baton, right? >> that's right. we got an update today that they received stitches to the backs of their heads, but it does appear they'll be okay. as far as those accused, courtney johnson was released from jail today, only had a 500-dollar bond for a misdemeanor charge of resisting her boyfriend, much more serious. he remains in jail. we got ahold of a 9-1-1 call and radio transmissions that gives us more insight into the alleged attack that the deputies survived. >> the first 9-1-1 call kate burgess imin tuesday morning from a neighbor alleging she could hear 22-year-old skill lar francis and courtney johnson fighting in the back of this home on pineapple avenue. avenue arriving five minutes later, deputies allegedly heard theghting and made the decision to intervene. once there, they engaged a white male and white female engaged in a domestic. and as they did, the white male pulled out a collapsible baton and started striking one of our deputies. >> while rushing to her partner's side, deputy skinner was also struck by skylar francis. we don't have the details on how, but the sheriff's office said minutes later the two deputies somehow subdue the attacker and his girlfriend. skinner then made a call over the police roid yeah. radio. >> the bond is denied because this man is a threat to our community. if this is the manner in which he attacked the law enforcement officers. >> today, a judge did not allow for francis, who is facing two officer. and his next hearing is on march 1st. as for the girlfriend, courtney johnson, the state attorney's office says they do feel they they find m info rmation that sustains she was more involved in the attack then they have information for at this moment. live in merit island, derrol nail, fox 35 news. >> in daytona, city and county officials have come up with a plan to get people out of a homeless camp and into a shelter. it's popped outside of the county appraiser's office. they decided to work with halifax urban ministries to find a hundred additional beds for the homeless. it's not clear where they'll put those beds, but they hope to have them relocated about i friday. we're gathering more details and we'll have an update at 10:00 o'clock on our news. >> wild the president is now calling for a vaccine. what are the likelihoods of a vaccine and is there any kind of a cure for this? >> this is a relatively new virus, even though it was identified in 1947, it hasn't done much since the lack couple of years spreading from the south pacific into south america, so we're just starting to understand what this virus does, what the symptoms are, what its affects are in pregnancy, so developing a vaccine is a ways out. it will take a while. this virus is similar to a virus called ben gay and another one, those two that we see in the tropical climates that have been around for a while and we don't have vaccines for those. this may take a while to develop. >> i know a couple of cases all ready reported in the u.s. is it contagious? i know a lot of people are about calm some of o our fears and explain how it's spread. >> the zika virus is only spread by contact or bites from infected mosquitoes. so for it to spread in the united states, we would have to have our mosquitoes become infected with that virus. the way that happens is somebody becomes infected in a south american country, returns to the united states, and now goes outside and gets bit a a mosquito. that mosquito can carry to another person. >> the big concern for pregnant women traveling i know at home, what's the best mode for prevention? >> zika virus causes anybody bit by an infected mosquito can cause a rash, fever, body aches and pink eye, and in pregnant women, we believe, fetal malformation. if a male is bit by a mosquito, they'll get over a week in misery, about you average in terms of rainfall. all ready doubled in orlando, close to triple in daytona and melbourne. daytona and melbourne, you could be close to setting all-time records depending on how much more officer goes back to his car to pull up information and returns back to the african-american driver who had some harsh words for her. >> this is racial profiling. prove that i'm not an african-american. >> the chef reviewed the body cam video after receiving the complaint. >> he couldn't tell who the driver was before he pulled her over. >> why would anybody accuse an officer of right. orange county has about 64 bus driver vacancies out of about 916 total routes, so a fair number of their routes right now don't have a regular driver, and that's happening in some of the other local districts, too, and they said they think that is happening is the economy has improved and people are going back to work in other fields, partly because of the stress and because of the low pay in this part of the transportation field. drivers in some counties make as little as 10 $10.07 # to start. the yearly pay is about $18,000. >> i would imagine this would be getting forth school year. we're nearly into february, we're obviously into the second semester. how have they been getting along and is this a problem they'll hopefully have fixed before we get to may or june? >> clearly, somebody has had to drive the bus, so they have substitute drivers fill in on the regular route, but sometimes they have to have supervisors to fill in if a number of people are out sick or for other reasons. one reason why i t ca me up recently in orange is because they're discussing to make the high school start times later in the day, which would likely require them to add bus routes because they stagger their start times so the same drivers can run multiple routes much the transportation supervise nerves that district tell me they think spots if the school board decides to push back the high school start times and they need to add more routes, about you they need a few months to recruit people into those positions. >> if you're looking for a part-time job, there's one out there that arrested, accused of illegally recording phone conversations, which is a felony. according to the sheriff's office, deputy michael ryan recorded the conversations of two detention deputies who he was supervising. ryan allegedly wanted to hear if those two employees were complaining about having their duties changed. ryan is now in jail on a been fired from the sheriff's office. >> fox business
