simpson back in a courtroom? >> generally speaking, no. the federal constitution prohibits what's called double jeopardy. you cannot twice be placed in jeopardy for the same criminal offense. meaning, if you go to trial and you're found not guilty, you cannot be prosecuted for that same crime by the same sort sovereign. the state of california prosecuted him. they can't pretty him again. the united states of america, could pretty him but there has to be a federal question and there doesn't appear to be any. >> what about the former police officer who was alleged to have been in possession of this knife for quite some time, if it does end up being a violent piece of evidence in that case, which is obviously years old, can he anything? >> sure he could. he could be charged with obstruction of justice if they can determine, based upon the that you that applies in california, that he intentionally withheld the evidence, was it negligent or intentional, et cetera, but it's absurd to think that a law enforcement officer would not turn over something that potentially could be a piece of evidence in a criminal prosecution immediately. >> of course, there's a lot to be seen in this case, but i think a lot of people had that same question and that same reaction when they heard that. we'll bring you back as we learn more. thank you. >> ryan: police have arrested 24-year-old joshua
