announcer: it's 10:00 p.m. are? 10:00 p.m. steve: the polls are closed and the results coming in. donald trump and hillary clinton are declared the winner in the battle for new york. the first time in a long time mattered in the race for the nomination of both parties. dari: indeed, donald trump one big over kasich and cruz. it was a little closer for hillary clinton in her fight against ernie sanders. looking at the numbers coming in for republicans, donald trump right now with 62% of the vote. then we have drunk a sick with 24% of the vote in 40% of the vote for ted cruz. honestly those numbers is still coming in. and then we still have republicans.steve: sharon crowley has more and we start with dan bowens first and foremost, what is the donald doing tonight? reporter: donald trump entered the lobby of the trump tower today to frank sinatra's new york new york and he said that the voters in his home state know him best and have rightfully given him the biggest victory of his campaign so far. it is here at the trump tower that he announced his ambition to be president of the united states at the time, his opponents and critics say that he wouldn't last through the summer. this but he got a much-needed victory. we have seen some negative headlines including the loss of delegates in states like colorado and wyoming. and a campaign shakeup that is currently ongoing. it gives him momentum moving into some of the next primaries like in the keystone state of pennsylvania. end the big question here is not whether or not he was going to win but by how much. the key numbers, 50%. the 50% threshold of the popular vote statewide, which would give him a lion's share of the delegates across the state. the 95 delegates that are at stake here he now appears that that is likely to happen. and of course we have to count districts out there. >> going into the convention, i think, as the winner, but no one can take an election away with the way that they are doing it in the republican party. and by the way, i am no fan of bernie sanders, but i have seen bernie sanders win, win, win, and they say that he has no chance of winning. so they have the superdelegates, the republicans and the republican system is worse. dari: we appreciate that. that is not the only celebration in town. for the democrats that are in. frequenting having clinton had 59%, bernie sanders 41%. beyond that is a big win for her. let's get over to sharon crowley who has more in midtown we are expecting to hear from her. >> that's right, we should be hearing from hillary clinton literally any minute now heard we have already heard from the former mayor and mayor bill de blasio. the crowd was ecstatic when he came up on the screen that hillary clinton was the projected winner. important because clinton is looking at pivoting toward the general election. starting to really focus on that. she is really hoping to use the energy and momentum to focus on trying to win a national election. you can certainly hear the governor behind me. that means that at any moment we clinton as well as her victory speech. be sure to keep it here because we will talk about it. dari: heading to issues. the comptroller says that his office will do a city board of elections on it. to find out about the problems leading up to that later in the hour. dari: and candidates running to fill the 65th assembly district seat area in left over from sheldon silver who stepped down following his corruption accusation. and lester can. here are the numbers, right there you can see them on the screen. let's go back over to the other race. chris mcgrath. and that is the assembly district 65 you are seeing right now. and they are running to fill the seat was vacated by former skelos. steve: waiting to get the numbers in. the polls close at 9:00 o'clock. and there is an important race in brooklyn. district 59, includes these areas, democrats 80-20%. that is a good number right there. concerns on top of bringing you the reactions. and jennifer lumbers has more. reporter: that's right, the conviction of peter liang. we did the d.a. had called for no prison time, but very few people expected this to happen. he downgraded his charges and then sentenced him to five years probation of 800 hours of community service. >> this was an act of criminal situation. >> with that there is going to be no jail time for peter liang. in a surprise decision judge danny cheung downgraded charges against the 28-year-old from manslaughter to criminally negligent homicide. >> he turned to apologize to the family of akai gurley. reporter: it was november 2014 when akai gurley stepped into this area. peter liang was on patrol. door slammed shut and the bullet ricocheted he concluded that the only
