While snow and wind create havoc on the roads, and theres no warmup in sight. Buhbye. A United AirlinesFlight Attendant slides off the plane after deploying the chute. Her actions are called unsafe. What caused her to make the hasty exit . And a buzzer beater. For the championship the villanova wildcats hit an incredible threepointer with no time on the clock to win the National Title. The dramatic moment setting off a massive celebration on campus. A finish being called one of the greatest ever. Today, tuesday, april 5th, 2016. Announcer from nbc news, this is today with matt lauer and savannah guthrie, live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. Its tuesday, april 5th, 2016. You stayed up late and watched the game . I was watching. Some of the students we just saw, probably just coming in from the bar on the campus of villanova. That shot looked like it would be the shot of the tournament. North carolina ties the game. At the buzzer, Chris Jenkins putting his name in the history books. We have breaking news just this morning. Thats right. Classes at villanova are cancelled today. That probably is the reaction. No school for you, villanova. Enjoy this one. Well have more on the incredible game. A game theyre calling one of sports. Thats ahead. First, lets get to the top story, politics. The drama unfolding in the president ial race. Today, voters are heading to the polls in wisconsin. On the republican side, ted cruz is leading in the polls ahead of donald trump in one poll by six point for the democrats, Bernie Sanders is ahead of clinton by the slightest of margins. We have it covered. First up, peter alexander, who is in milwaukee for us. Good morning. Hey, savannah and willie, good morning to you. Both the races here in wisconsin are going down to the wire. For the republicans, donald trump is trying to squeeze out a win, trying to avoid being shut out in the delegate contest, while ted cruz is arguing a victory for him here could reset this race. Reporter the war in wisconsin. Donald trump gunning for a come from behind victory today against ted cruz. If we do well here, folks, its over. Donald trump has gotten his rear end whipped over and over and over again for a straight two weeks. Reporter rejoining trump on the road, wife melania. When you attack him, he will punch back ten times harder. Reporter later reacting for the first time publicly to the old modeling shot. I have a tough skin. I think its not fair theyre attacking family, wife or children. Its unfair. Reporter add ted cruz on s ted cruz is giving his denial about allegations of infidelity. Ive always been faithful to my wife. I love my wife. Shes my best friend in the world. This is the garbage the Trump Campaign engages in. Reporter john kasich mocking trump for trying to push him out of the race. He says he needs to get out because hes getting my votes, and i want to have my votes. This is not fair. I thought we got out of the sandbox years ago. Reporter trumps latest target, the gop delegate system. So were dealing with a corrupt system. Were dealing with a system thats not fair. Reporter republicans briefed on the process pushing back, telling nbc news its always been delegates who select the House Speaker paul ryan insists it wont be him. When people put my name in, i say, get my name out. If you want to be president , you run for president. Thats the way i see it. Reporter Hillary Clintons campaign bracing for a loss. Already investing energy on her home turf in mork. New york. Arguing sanders path includes overturning the will of the voters. Sanders keeps working. When people come back in, reclaim their democracy and stand up and fight back, then we win. The democrats debate over debates has ended. Hillary clinton and Bernie Sanders will face off april 14th in brooklyn, just five days before new york states primary. Willie and savannah . Peter alexander, thank you. Chuck todd, moderator of meet the press, is in studio with us today. You have a couple tight races in wisconsin according to the polls. Lets talk about how the delegates are handed out. Today is more about momentum than it is about delegates. On the democratic side, you have 96 up for grabs. They do everything so proportionally. Its possible when you look at the pledged delegate lead, about 250 for Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders needs a double digit victory in order to make a little bit of progress here. Its not going to make a lot. This would be about momentum going into new york state. Less about delegates. For grabs. Whats interesting, its very possible that tonight, trump could get a goose egg. Its that which is important. If cruz gets the majority, kasich could finish third, because hes doing well in one district around madison. A lot of republicans in madison. Both of them may be kasich trump oh, trump chuck, grab a seat here. For a while, the polls were showing cruz with a tenpoint lead. Its tightening up now. There are decent pollsters not getting the independent number right. That could be tricky about this. This is an open primary. You could get the sanders number wrong and the cruz number wrong because of the rules of who can vote. Cruz has a sizable lead . I think. And sanders has a small lead. Nicolle wallace also joining us this morning. Remember the question after iowa was, could donald trump take a punch after having lost a state . Can he take a punch if he loses wisconsin, given the circumstances of the last two weeks, all the things hes been through, the things hes done and said . Is the dynamic different this time if he loses . I think it is but no one should underestimate his ability to remake himself in his campaign. Toise is going to lap the hare. Trump has a terrible campaign but hes been this charismatic, allpowerful and compelling figure. Cruz is not a charismatic politician but he had a superior Campaign Organization and is a disciplined messenger. This is where the turtle passes the hare in the race. I think trump is completely capable of improving his campaign. Chuck, you have a different view. The do you think trump, if he loses, can adjust and make the tweaks to get back in the game . If this were a traditional candidate, yes, because the things to do are on jous. And obvious. Past performance is likely to be indicative of future behavior. People have been telling him this for months. Racket it back. Prep for five minutes before an interview. Do you think if he loses, he well see. We also never had this if he i think the margin matters. Two weeks, hes got to stew in this. Yeah. Two weeks. Iowa, you had six days. Boom, new hampshire. He had this big lead going in. He had a way to rescue himself. Whats going to be the narrative changer for him . Two weeks, thats a long time. Nicolle, democratic side, you have two weeks. Whatever happens tonight in wisconsin. If Hillary Clinton loses, its still an uphill climb for Bernie Sanders. What would a sanders victory mean for the race tonight . It would be a psychological blow to the clinton campaign. It shows you how different the democratic race is from the republican race. You see him already preparing to figure out how to begin to talk about getting out. I think the National Party structure on the democratic side is so much stronger, and theres so much more response to it than on the republican side. You have to give sanders credit. I think theyre setting up a way to get out. Himself in new york. Basically saying, hey, i know i have to beat her here in order to say i have a chance at this thing. That also means he knows its likely he wont beat her. Well see if it plays out. Congratulations on not talking about the basketball game, guys. Theyll make multiple documentaries on this one. Another 15 minutes before the show, we talked about basketball. Unbelievable. Good to see you guys. Thanks. Clash of the seasons. Now to the investigation into the amtrak train crash near philadelphia. It killed two workers who were on the tracks. Man error may have been a factor. Tom costello has more. Investigators tell me theyve reviewed the data from the black boxes. The engineer slammed on the brakes just five seconds before crashing into the backhoe sitting on the tracks. The question is, why were those maintenance crews there in the first place . Reporter this morning, investigators want to know why amtrak Maintenance Equipment was sitting on two sets of tracks sunday morning as train 89 approached at 106 miles per hour, just under the posted limit of 110. Were still gathering facts on that information, as to who had the authority to be on that track. Reporter the train slammed into a backhoe, killing two amtrak workers with decades of experience. Why was the crew repairing rail ties on a still active amtrak line . Investigators in washington have now reviewed the trains black camera that captured the crash.
