than an inch down towards new jersey along i-95. some indications that we have seen very, very intense heavy rainfall in the area. maybe as much as five inches has fallen and there is a potential for horrific hot air balloon crash in texas. officials believe all 16 people on board were killed. this happened this morning here in lockhart, texas about 30 miles outside of austin. we are hearing from witnesses and learning more information about the company that runs the balloon rides. news 4 the newsroom with details. >> a horrible situation in texas right now. 16 people feared dead. federal investigators are getting on the ground there tonight to piece together what happened and why. >> a deflated hot air balloon is the scene of a major accident. >> nobody stood a chance. >> perhaps the deadliest crash margaret watched from her front porch. >> all of a sudden there was a fireball that went up. >> the federal aviation administration believes 16 people were aboard the balloon when it caught fire, plummeting to the ground. that balloon confirmed to belong to the company heart of texas hot air balloon rides. >> the families may be watching right no and we offer thoughts and prayers for the loss and this will be a difficult site for us to work through. >> the ntsb said it's early in the investigation and they are not sure how the balloon caught fire. >> for sounded like a gun going off. >> they believe the popping noises came from the balloon, colliding with high voltage power lines. >> it wasn't like an explosion. it was like a -- it just went up. >> a team of experts you. here at home, hundreds gathered for the country's largest hot air balloon festival in new jersey. they canceled the texas, but because of the weather. organizers said safety is a top right and this decision was out of an abundance of caution. the festival allows people to view the launches of nearly 100 balloons and ride in them. they are expected to continue as planned tomorrow. a half dozen people are recovering after a serious crash in the south bronx. it happened around 2:20 this morning. narrowly missing a community center. we have the details. >> reporter: the startling crash happened at jerome and west 172nd street in the south bronx. a minivan ended up on the sidewalk feet away from a community center. >> translator: the minivan was coming through the red light and the other camry came across and they hit each other. >> jorge showed us security and the scattering of car parts across the street. the force was so strong, the passenger in the camry which is a livery cab was ejected from the car. police found him on the street when they arrived, but he is in stable condition as are the five other people rushed to three hospitals in the area. >> the speed limit was about 30 or 25, but they just fly by. >> residents say speeding seems to be a problem here and this man is glad the building was spared as it serves so many in the neighborhood. >> according to the cops, if a tree was there, it might land into the pool. you know what i'm saying? that's what happened. >> you are fortunate it department happen like that. >> thanks god it didn't happen like that. news 4 new york. >> a tragic accident on l struck boy a cargo fan. it happened after 10:00 last night and police say two men were walking along the road when the van hit them. 35-year-old was kill and lock was treated for a broken collarbone. the driver stayed at the scene and at this point no charges have been filed. in queens that happened on july 12th in flushing. he was shooting at the silver jeep grand cherokee. the driver of the jeep fired at the man first while he was riding his bike. if you have information about the shooting, call police. new at 6:00, nine families are looking for a new place to live after their condo was deemed unsafe. a resident called police after they bowing out about inches. the emergency said the building was not safe. power and gas was shut off and everyone was forced to leave. the cause is still under investigation. tonight we do know the name of a man murdered in brooklyn. police found him shot at the house early this morning. he was taken to the hospital where he died. no arrests have been made and what started as a home invasion investigation has morphed into something different. police in putnam lake, new jersey reported several mass gunmen breaking into a neighboree home. after locking down the neighborhood for two hours, investigators say sheehan made the whole thing up and is charged with filing a false police report. he was through and it's surprising actually that the national weather service has not issued a flosh flood watch. we have that one warning in middlesex county, but we had so much rain moving through, i wouldn't be surprised if more gets issued. stay with us throughout the rain leading to standing water and also completely water covered roadways. that's possible tonight along with the heavy rain and storms and sunday is still unsettled. we will start to see the weather improve. 75 in jersey city and city island. 76 right now in jamaica, queens. we are down to 68 in monticello and 72 after rea throughout much of the area. on storm tracker, you can see the three-hour loop and severe thunderstorms in the washington, d.c. area. all that lightning for us and it is mostly heavy and steady rainfall. that is just for middlesex county. future tracker taking us ahead where the rain is north and west during the overnight hours. intense rainfall andy wouldn't be surprised into the hudson valley and the catskills. in the overnight hours and early sunday morning. by the time you are heading out for services, the intense heavy rainfall settled over the city and we could have thunderstorms associated with that. by the time you head out for lunch, the rain is starting to push offshore and on long island. we will get actions. it does look like the worst of it will be in the morning. not in the afternoon. the time we get to sunday, look at the prediction for how much rain we get out of the system. more than three inches at points north and west. about an inch and a quarter. north as well. the focus of the rainfall for this event looks to be northwest of town. 72 degrees with the heavy rain city and 82 in bellmawr and 78 in andover and the rain-cooled air. at least it's cooler, but it will be humid and we will see the rain continuing to push through. the good news is that the worst of the rain should be over by first pitch as they are taking on the mets
