All right, we want to go back to the big story of the day. And it is the weather. The jersey shore not taking any can chances as a weekendlong coastal storm moves through through and that means wind, rain, and a possibility of flooding. Pablo gutierrez joins us live from sea bright with what theyre doing to prepare. And weve already seen some flooding today, pablo. Reporter thats right, and residents here in sea bright are definitely not breathing with a sigh of relief. Although this is not the onetwo punch system many feed, the noreaster conditions a certainly a headache, here in the southernmost counties of new jersey, where we are expecting to see some floodings. Some streets already are presenting this situation. Now, earlier on, governor Chris Christie indicated that they are ready for any they are ready for any outages and theyre also preparing some shelters in case that they are needed. Right now, the main concern is the flooding on the street and the heavy wind. We expect gusts up to 40 miles per hour, especially here in the shore. This is all the information that i have for you guys. Pablo gutierrez, nbc 4 new york. All right, pablo, thank you for that update. And johnson, a lot of people were gearing up. Theyre kind of maybe sorting there which storm, what theyre going to do to us. And youve been on top of it throughout. Yes, david. Weve been tracking several things, of course. Of course, weve been tracking joaqfor quite some time, because there was a lot of indication in the beginning that it would be directly impacting the east coast and in particular, here in the northeast. Well, now we know thats not going to happen. However, joaquin is still pounding the bahamas. It has not moved very much in the last two days. One thing that new information has shown us is that its now not quite as strong, but still a major hurricane. Its down from a 4 to a 3. Thats still a major hurricane, still a dangerous storm, and its still pounding this area with winds, surf, and rain. Its unfortunate, the warnings remain in effect for the bahamas. Another look at the storm, and you can see it here. It is starting the to finally move to the north. Its been taking its time doing that, but its now finally starting to make a northward turn and pick up a little bit of speed. But its still powerful, near the san salvador, the eye of the storm, but its really lashing out at most of the bahamas, particularly the central bahamas. Finally, its going to move away. Now, bermuda is under a Tropical Storm watch. Now that the storm is going to are take it hundreds of miles away from the east coast. Then it takes a sharp right turn on monday. We may see some waves generated from the storm, when it gets close to our area on monday, but its still so far away, we are not going to see any direct impacts at all. What were concerned ith now, of course, is this coastal low, thats still developing over the carolinas. Theyre going to get most of the rain. Were getting mostly of the coastal flooding fromit, as the winds are coming in out of the east, straight on to the jersey shore. So in terms of rain, were going to see waves of it or periods of modera te to heavy rain through the tonight, into the overnight, early saturday morning. By the time the sun comes up, though, most of the rain showers ould have tare off to just spotty showers. Now, were still going to have the windrti going to see the wave action, and were still going to have the coastal flooding into sunday rning, during the high tide cycles, ev though were not going to see a lot more rain after tonight and early tomorrow morning. But still another inch is possible south of the city, especially at the shore. These temperatures, its cold its in the 40s out there, and the temperatures are dropping in the city, 2 degrees in the last hour. Its 48 now. And the winds are gusting, still up around 30 to 35 miles an hour. Strongest winds are near the coast, where the water is piling up, especially at the jersey shore. So windy, rainy, chilly. Well adjust these temperatures, because i dont think well make it up to near 50. I think well stay in the 40s for the rest o tonight. For saturday, we pay get into the mid to low 50s. Wind gusts and sprines later in the day. The heavier rain in the morning, and then that tapers off. Sunday should be a lot better. Maybe a peek of sun. That would be nice. And up to about 61 degrees. Now, north and west of the city, youre not having to deal with most of this, so youre outf e intense fray, but the coastal areas, definitely. So it sta rather chly. Were talkingindchills out there right now,4 is the high tomorrow. 61 on sunday. Look, its gradually Getting Better and better and better with each day, with temperatures finally back up into the 70s, so some good weather is coming. Really, the next 24 hoursre the worst, especially for the coastal areas. Another update at 6 00. Back to you. Janice, thank you for that. Under new legislation, cooling towers in the city must be tested regularly for legionella bacteria and must be registered. The cooling towers in morris park had recently been cleaned and lined with new regulations. We wonder, how does bacteria form just weeks after a cleaning. Fraser says a few reasons, cleaning crews can miss spots and maintenance is crucial in the weeks following a cleaning. To its a difficult battle. Its something that has to be and if you dont have a Proper Program in place, maintaining e proper biocide levels, its very likely youll have legionella come back.
