recovering after surgery on his arm. we learned more about the man accused of unleashing gun fire on the officer. and one witness said he saw the suspect taken down. >> the gun drawn going for the officer in his cruiser firing off a dozen rounds and the officer sitting inside. >> police say three shots hit officer hartnett bleeding heavily. >> i heard the first volley of gunshots. >> he lives up the street from the intersection where it was he said he saw officers take the suspect down. >> by the time i got dressed and came outside the police officers were apprehending the suspect on my block. when i seen his firearm on the ground with the detectives it was empty. i knew he had emptied his magazine. >> reporter: police identified the suspect as edward archer and said he confessed that the shooting was with inspired by islam and he pledged allegiance to the islamic state. >> this cowardly act is confesead in the name of islam. according to him, police defend laws that are contrary to the teaching of the koran. >> police are searching the home where he lived. the home was thil filthy with bugs throughout. we found out the 30-year-old suspect has prior convictions on simple assault and firearms charges. law enforcement sources say the fbi is looking at archer's phone and computer records and that trips to saudi arabia in 2011 and egypt in 2012, but there's was the with news 4 new york app. new tonight at 11:00, a bronx is in critical condition tonight. the boy ran on the street and struck by a minivan. it happened at 6:00 in the intersection of fox and westchester avenue. the driver stayed on the scene. no charges have been filed. now to a news 4 exclusive. this school bus with children on board struck by a car and flipped over. tonight, people who live in that area say the intersection has a troubling reputation. michael jordan is live in brooklyn at the scene of the accident. michael? >> when you watch this video you realize how lucky everyone is that they were able to walk away from it with relatively minor injuries. it has highlighted how dangerous this intersection here at 4th avenue and first street really is. tonight, parents tell us something needs to change. a school bus packed with kids flipped on its side. >> the mustang sped in it to. >> this video obtained by news 4 shows how it happened. watch again. look at the top of the screen. a white truck pulls in to a busy the school bus pulls in front of it and turns. the mustang doesn't see it until it is too late. >> the minute i came out i saw how severe it was. >> reporter: marilyn herrera saw some children on the sidewalk with head injuries. >> i head him lay down and made sure he was okay. i told him it would be okay. >> reporter: the end result, seven injured, four of them children. the kids escaped with minor injuries but one adult seriously hurt. all are expected to survive. parents and community board member smith hopes it is a wake up call. >> we need more close the bus came to hitting a mother and child. 4 investigates found multiple complaints to the city about this intersection. the third injury accident here worries the next one could be fatal. >> my children ride the school bus every day. that touched me closely. >> reporter: tonight, police are still reviewing that surveillance video. we asked them if the school bus driver will face a ticket or citation for making that left turn. right now they'll tell us they are still investigating the cause of the crash. live in park slope, news 4, new york. the man accused of randomly slashing a woman in the face in chelsea maybe the same person that attacked other women across the city. police believe he picked the first victim in november hitting her in the face with an object in midtown. his latest victim was on the way to work when he allegedly slashed her face. police are looking in to whether he sliced this woman's face in a new year's eve attack in the bronx. the 24-year-old woman says she was on her way home when a man wound required more than 100 stitches. six months on the run from authorities, el chapo has finally been caught. he was hiding out in his home state. these are the first images of the drug lord in handcuffs and a dirty t-shirt. the tip led authorities to launch an early morning raid. chapo was finally captured. >> chapo guzman enjoys tremendous protection from a population there and from corrupt government officials. >> reporter: prior to his breakout in july, he previously escaped prison back in 2001. it had deeply embarrassed the mexican government. upgraded. unclear which gets revamping first but they will be all done by 2020. the bc subway stop at cathedral parkway doesn't look as good as other stations in the city. it is outdated, some would not guilty plea. scripts for thousands of dollars. he was arrested last month after stopping the scheme. the judge says he is a flight risk and will be held without bail until the next hearing. a woman is facing charges for violent behavior aboard a flight from la guardia to chicago. we first brought you the story last night. cell phone video shows the woman being carried off the united airlines flight. authorities say she demanded to be let off the flight midair. then attacked a flight attendant and fellow passenger when her request was denied. while she faces criminal charges, they found a surprising number of unruly passengers often don't. >> it is a rare occurrence in the context of the number of flights, but it's a growing problem. >> among the thousand of complaints to the most of the coastal sections the temperatures above 40 and keep rising. across much of long island, temperatures in the low 40s from kings park to islip. west you drop off a bit. this is the danger soern. monticello and the valleys, drizzle moves through. quiet right now. we may see a few flurries over the catskills and poconos within the next hour. here's the moisture to the west. it will slowly fill in. on the light side to start and heavier on sunday. then it is all rain. the winter weather advisories in the northern and western counties, mainly north of 87 where you may see slick streets tonight and in the morning. as the temperatures rise throughout the day, if you get any ice at all, it will melt away. dry and mostly cloudy with dreary in the coastal areas but that starts to fill in overnight saturday in to early sunday morning. watch the temperatures rise. near 60 degrees by 7:00 sunday morning and that's when we see heavier rain moving through. it moves east by 11:00 and tapers off after that the rest of the day. quite a bit of rain expected, anywhere from 3/4 inch to a half inch. 1 1/2 inches across the region. maybe close to two inches in some spots and then a big change next week, stlooes for a couple of days. more arctic air will swing our way and we could get a couple of clipper storms moving through with snow showers spreading across the area. it will be cold, windy and snowy early wednesday. after that, it starts to taper off and the temperatures rise again. by the end of next week, back up to 40. in the meantime, keep it here at news 4 over the
