know there are multiple critical injuries. at least one person has died. a major train accident in hoboken, new jersey has left more than 100 people injured. officials say a new ey transit train crashed into the station platform leaving multiple passengers trapped and causing structural damage to the station. the accident happened just before 9:00 eastern, the heart of rush hour. authorities say the passenger train failed to stop at the hoboken terminal, continuing to crash through the platform. >> i observed them coming at a high rate of speed, when over the bumper block, through the ray: witnesses say the force of the crash took out a support beam, causing part of the roof that covers the train tracks to collapse. >> i look to the left and i see all of this metal on the ground, pipes and first, water flowing anywhere -- everywhere. ray: most of the injured passengers are being treated at the scene, while those more seriously injured have been transported to area hospitals. >> i believe those people in the front were badly injured. they started yelling once they inside the terminal are being evacuated. all new jersey transit service into the hoboken station has been diverted. new jersey transit official just confirmed to abc news the train came into the station at a high rate of speed. that spokesperson says the normal speed is 5 miles per hour. ntsb officials are on their way to the scene. ray raimundi, abc news, hoboken has led to a significant seizure of drugs. the drugs, including heroin, fentanyl, and meth have a street valley of more than $80,000. wmur's ray brewer is live outside the tilton police station where police say this case highlights a growing trend in the drug trade. ray: tilton police say because of all the attention being paid to heroin and fentanyl overdoses, they are seeing a shift back to methamphetamine. that addicts now consider it a safer drug. >> we always say some of the biggest cases that we see in our career come from traffic stops. ray: this is the taped-on inspection sticker that the chief says led to the drug bust in tilton. >> it's a significant amount of heroin, over 750 grams of heroin, about 20 grams of methamphetamine, a stolen weapon from boston. ray: monday afternoon, police say that this car driven by 39-year-old bryan franklin of penacook had the taped inspection sticker on it. the officer pulled over the car he noticed that there was some drug paraphenalia and a small amount of drugs in a baggie in the car. ray: as that was happening the pickup driven by cre clay pulled up. clay, seen here in an earlier booking photo, is franklin's girlfriend, according to police. police say that she was nervous and was found to be driving with a suspended license, so the pickup was impounded. both franklin and clay were let go because there was nothing to hold them on. subsequently, a search warrant s were discovered. however, police say they don't expect franklin and clay to remain on the streets for long, as police work with the u.s. attorney's office. >> we want to make sure we do a thorough investigation and make sure we have the right suspects and so we are looking at this as a warning to first responders across the granite state about a powerful pain killer. the state's bureau of ems is asking fire departments and ems crews to proceed with caution on calls where drug paraphernalia is found. officials say a new powerful drug related to fentanyl has been discovered in several states. its called furanyl-fentanyl and it's an extremely powerful sold as a fine powder. if airborne, it can be fatal to users and first responders who inhale it, or if gets absorbed through the skin. just into the newsroom, merrimack will be sent made an arrest in a burglary investigation. police were called when charles washington was pounding on the front door of a local home, demanding that the homeowner turn over his mail. he then forced his way into the believe is an organized terminal ring out of new york. washington is charged with felony burglary and multiple counts of receiving stolen property. police want to remind residents if you get mail or packages delivered to your home without your name, called police. the merrimack county sheriff's department is warning people about a phone scam where the caller is posing as one of it's officers. the caller introduces himself as lieutenant frank rogers or another officer, and claims there is a warrant out for your arrest and you must pamo for bail. if you get a suspicious call like this, call your local police department. drought conditions are getting worse in the granite state. all of southeastern new hampshire is in extreme drought, and now, the severe drought conditions have extended into six-year-olds and their teacher are recovering this morning from gunshot patient. maggie: the kids at townville elementary in south carolina were near the end of the day when reports of an active shooter at the school lit up cell phones across town. one of their teachers, a woman outside, was shot in her shoulder as she tried to rush the kids in. one boy was shot in the foot. another boy, six-year-old jacob hall, was shot in the leg and had to be airlifted to a hospital >> i know the little kid that's in surgery at greenville. i know she had to basically resuscitate him. have saved the kid's life. maggie: police say that the unidentified shooter now in their custody is just 14-years-old. they say he called his grandparents crying in the afternoon and when they went to his house just down the road from the school, the grandparents discovered the body of the teen's father, shot dead in the home. police also taking a moment to recognize the hero of this story, firefighter jamie brock, who got there first. unarmed, he tackled the shooter to the ground. >> he is a proud member of the townville volunteer fire townville volunteer fire department and did nothing any firefighters wouldn't have done. maggie: authorities interviewed the suspect late into the night but say as of now they do not know the motive or where he got the gun. family released a statement saying that they scattered showers but not an all-day rain. if you are heading into farther northern areas for the foliage, it should be drive majority of the day. sunday we start out with some scattered activity as well. not a washout each day. eventually, this low pressure moves out monday into tuesday. maybe a lingering shower but otherwise looking much quieter by the end of the week. no huge rainfall amounts out of this. what happens friday night into sunday and monday, we could see three quarters of an age of rainfall. next week. kristen: it's that time of year again, flu season. the department of health says an adult in rockingham county has tested positive for the flu, the first case in new hampshire. today, we have new hampshire state epidemiologist, dr benjamin chan with us to talk about this flu season and the importance of getting your annual flu vaccine. good afternoon, thanks for being with us. there's a lot of confusion between the cold and the flu. clarify that for us. >> flu are respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. influenza is caused by the influenza virus. the symptoms can be similar, so it can be difficult in the initial stages to tell the difference between them. influenza tends to be a much more serious infection. people have more systemic signs of infection, high fever, chills, body aches, not feeling addition to the common symptoms of running nose, sore throat. the flu can also cause serious infections, bacterial infections like pneumonia, which can lead to hospitalization. even a few influenza-related deaths every year. there is testing and medications that can be done to shorten the duration and the severity of illness. kristen: we are all encouraged to get the flu vaccine. people that should definitely be getting it? >> the flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu. the cdc recommends everyone six years and older is eligible for the vaccine. we encourage people in that range to get the vaccine. those at a higher risk should definitely get the vaccine, young children less than two, heart disease, chronic lung disease. those people should get the flu vaccine. kristen: why is it important that we get vaccinated each and every year and what is the best time to get the vaccination? >> those are good questions. the flu vaccine carries in it three or four different strains of the flu. those can change year to year depending upon what we see circulating in other parts of the world. is different from last year. it still has the h1n1, which we have heard about in years past. not only because of the change in the vaccine but also community being -- immunity decreases over time. after six months, there is not full protection for the next season. circulating in the hampshire communities, so now is a good time to get the vaccine. the cdc recommends that people should be ideally vaccinated by the end of october. that should last through the season which runs typically through april or may.
