Erin while things are clear on the roads right now, conditions will likely be very different tonight, especially in the northern and western parts of the state, where snow is expected. Ray you may recall we got some snow for halloween before. We did get some snow over the weekend, but this could be the first Winter Driving conditions for a lot of people here in new allow yourself a little extra time and plenty of space between cars. The dot says they are ready to go. The trucks are all set. They have been stockpiling 172,000 pounds of salt to treat the 4600 miles of roads it is responsible for. They say this is a tricky time of year, as construction and basic road maintenance is still underway. And wintry weather in october creates its own sets of challenges. The big challenge this time drivers are aware of changing conditions. If its cold enough to snow, it is cold enough to for the ground to freeze, and for slippery type conditions. We all know that bridges freeze first, so people need to think that Winter Driving conditions are almost upon us. Ray Officials Say they are working every year to reduce the amount of salt that they use on the roads, while also rolling out new and improved technology to make sure roads are getting treated when conditions warrant. A hiker had to be rescued yesterday afternoon after running into blowing snow and cold temperatures on Mount Lafayette and losing the trail. Fish and game officers say conditions are already wintry on many trails in the White Mountains, and hiker prepare accordingly. New this morning, the red cross is helping seven people, including four children, after fire heavily damaged a home in epping. When firefighters arrived on blake road around 7 45, they found fire burning stairs and a porch on the outside of the home, with flames spreading into the kitchen and second floor. Officials say there is a lot of damage, but the home can be erin a man accused of shooting another man to death in manchester is due in court this morning to face a charge of Second Degree murder. 32yearold Billy Maldonado was arrested earlier this month in connecticut. He returned to New Hampshire yesterday after waiving extraition. Police say he shot 25yearold Jonathan Vazquez ojeda near the intersection of merrimack and beech streets back in september after the two had an argument. Police say they found a marijuana growing operation in auburn while trying to find a burglary suspect. Investigs to a home on wood hill drive yesterday afternoon after reports that a homeowner fired a gun during a confrontration with an intruder. Police searched the area, but never found the suspect. However, when they searched the home they seized several guns and marijuana that was growing in the basement. Investigators say charges are possible against the People Living in the home. Sean the elections are less than two weeks away, and the outcome of the president ial race could be largely decided by the results in a few key and those results depend on which candidate can get more people to the polls. Erin calling hours are being held today for a teenager who died last week after apparently falling into a storm drain in nashua. A vigil was held last night in memory of 16yearold jacob goulet. His body was found in the Merrimack River in tyngsboro, massachusetts. Investigators fear he was swept away in a storm drain but their final ruling has not yet been released. Jacob was a student at nashua high north and was a member of the schools band. Jake is, he always knew how to make someone smile even if he , didnt know how to. Goff is scheduled to go on trial next year. Sean a plymouth man is facing charges this morning after crashing into a utility pole in lebanon. The accident was caught on camera. Police say 48yearold Jeffrey Caron was behind the wheel of this car when it went off route four yesterday and crashed into the pole. Caron was arrested at the hospital on charges including his passenger, 31yearold kellen fitzgibbonbizel, of thornton, was also arrested for allegedly possessing a variety of pills, that he did not have prescriptions for. The superintendent says they were drinking while traveling back to the school after an away game. While they were not in the same vehicle as the students and head coach, they were still on duty.
