we have a great weekend. thanks for joining us. i'm erin fehlau. sean: good morning. i'm sean mcdonald. my alarm clock was going to go off. i didn't need to. kevin: a lot of people on facebook talking about the same thing. woken up by the thunder and lightning. in some spots, it is going to total up to over two inches. still a couple of thunderstorms. you notice the certain back edge through new york that will be moving across the s heavier downpours. much needed rainfall across the area. maybe some ponding out there on area roadways. it is warm and humid. 60's to near 70 degrees. up into the monday morning. with all of the heavy rain falling, we are throughout the state. the d.o.t. crews are out there trying to get all of the trainage areas. just be careful through the area. keep in mind you need to adhere to the posted speed limits. 393 in concord is slow. the everett turnpike below the speed limit getting out of the pedestrian ford tolls and through the lane drops heading into nashua. from the traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. tight at the pope memorial spca in concord. it is not just because a massive rescue last week. erin: they say animals continued to pour in over the weekend. their finances are running thin. ray brewer to explain the challenges. ray: the spca shelter in concord took in 30 animals. most of those rescued from a local apartment. over the weekend they sick puppies. one of the puppies, name pickle, is receiving critical care. they aren't sure what his outlook is. last year the shelter took in 21 animals. this year the number is at 68. they are even using bathrooms as overflow rooms. it is all creating a financial strain. just the number of spaying and neutering was expensive. the six puppies are adding an extra cost. >> animals is the number one priority as well as all of the medical care. anyone interested in helping is welcome to drop off any kind of supplies that you would need to clean a home or take care of an animal. ray: the spca did hold a fundraiser making $1,200 which officials say will help a lot. other donations are coming in as well. they hope that all of the animals will be available for adoption. they are asking for patients right now as they handle the unusual numbers. in the studio, ray sean: all right. thanks. one person is dead after a motorcycle crashed on route 28 in londonderry last night. police say the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash near the yard restaurant just before 8:00. the road was closed for several hours because of this. the victim's name has not been released. the cause of the crash remains under investigation. new this morning, a teenager from newfield is recovering from serious injuries after crashing his atv in sanddown. fish and says teen was riding alone when he lost control in soft sand and crashed over an embankment. she was wearing all of the proper protective gear. the man accused of robbing the bank of america on hooksett road in manchester last week is expected to be in court today. 27-year-old justin brady was arrested on friday and charged with robbery. police say they think brady also cased another bank in the city and was recognized by employees five people in connection with the explosion in manhattan on saturday that injured 29 people. those five people were detained after a traffic stop of. no changes have been announced. now officials want to know if there's any connection to devices found in new jersey. ray raymundi reports. reporter: they are saying appears to be similar cell phones used to detonate the two devices. the new york metro area on edge this morning. another device covered overnight in new jersey just miles away from newark city. one of the backpack exploded after bomb experts attempted to disarm it. this was while it was near the bridge sunday night where fbi agents stopped what they call a bombings. federal authorities trying to get a clearer picture as to who is responsible for placing the device. the explosion and chaos happening on a balmy saturday night. law enforcement on the hunt. >> the evidence that we've collected is being taken to the lab at quantico for review. we're following every viable lead. ray: meanwhile, federal authorities looking into a trash can is related to the bombings in new york city. new york city is bracing for an onslaught of security with world leaders arriving for the u.n. general assembly. law enforcement officials are strongly encouraging vigilance and to report any suspicious activity. abc news, new york. a. a two-day symposium to honor of witnesses. foley was kidnapped and killed by isis in 2014. it will begin with a screening of a documentary about his life, followed by a discussion with foley's parents. sean: firefighters planned to return to the brush fire in hooksett. they are hoping to get some help. the fire was first spotted saturday afternoon a half a mile from streamside drive. it was contained. officials think the for several days and may have been sparked by lightning or a campfire. the fire burned deep into the ground and getting enough water to douse the fire was a challenge. erin: a fund has been set up to help a single dad seriously hurt and provide care for his 10-month-old son. nick ford and his friend had to be cut from the wreckage. boston hospitals. ford's family says he receiverred several honoring america's heros. honor flight new england completed another important trip last night. erin: there's exciting news for skiers and snow boarders. the changes being made to the popular freedom sean: in the next half an hour, an update on the patriots quarterback. there might be some good news. we'll tell you about it. kevin: it is a rare start to the day. temperatures in the 60's and pockets of heavier rain and still a couple of flashes of heavier a lot of this winding down. details coming up. sean: it took me ten minutes to find my rain jacket. erin: i know. we are not used to this. a great white shark was spotted over the weekend. the bigger danger was to the south. sean: three surfers were bitten by sharks in a matter of hours. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. one person did suffer what is described as significant wounds t type of sharks attacked the surfer. there were a lot of fish that sharks feed on in the water. erin: ski season is still a couple of months away. there's exciting news for local skiers and borders. the freedom pass is expanding and getting cheaper. it provides a free lift ticket each day of participating mountains. now the extra $50 charge has been dropped. the number of mountains taking part has more than doubled to 13, including a few out escape outside section of wmur. sean: honor flight new england made its 43rd trip just a few hours ago. 54 world war ii and korean war veterans, including several from new hampshire made the journey to see the memorials honoring their sacrifice and service. it included one of the legendary tuskegee its final trip on manchester on october 16th. never too late to say thank you. these are cool trips. go on and see the monument down there. erin: it is a wonderful program. it is 12 past 5:00. the miracle on the hudson made national news. could it hold on to the top spot in the box office for a second week in a row. sean: the miracle on the hudson continues to grab the attention of moviegoers. the tom hank drama "sully" about the dramatic landing oned hudson in 2009 took in over $20 million to hang on to the top spot for the second weekend. "sully" has pulled in more than $70 million total. "blair witch" and "bridget jones' were second and third. the daughter of "the sound of music" passed away. charmange was 24. she later wrote books about her experiences. she was 73 years old. erin: it was a big night for hollywood. the 60th annual emmy awards for handed out last night live right here on abc with some there for the ceremony and shares some of the highlights. reporter: the 68th annual emmy awards kicked off with some of the years most celebrated tv characters. host jimmy kimmel flying in on a dragon and setting the stage for a night that had the "game the thrones" facing off with o.j. simpsons. >> if your show doesn't have a dragon or a bronco, go home now. reporter: the tv, commander and chief, julia dreyfuss winning her eighth emmy. >> our show started out as a political satire. it feels more like a sobering documentary. reporter: the actress who plays lincoln winning. there was a jeb bush cameo. and kimmel. >> who is to blame for apprentice." >> we don't have to watch reality shows. we're living in one. >> please give transgender talent a chance. >> please tell me you are seeing this too. >> i feel lucky to be on a show that puts women at the center. reporter: a limited series and the winning comedy and drama series. >> "game of thrones." reporter: now they are red carpet. it is not over. hollywood is moving from action from the awards to the after parties. in los angeles, i'm lauren lester, abc thinks. erin: i think jimmy kimmel did a great job. sean: yeah. kevin: that can't be easy. you have to poke fun of people in the crowd. sean: all of your peers in the room too. kevin: that too. for some folks on top of mt. washington, this is feet above the freeline. there are a lot of people speculating as to how it got up there. hitching a ride. i'm guessing. because yeah, that's not necessarily made to be up there. so we'll have to see. maybe they have some answers for us in the next couple of days. beyond that, we are talking heavy rainfall this morning. temperatures running in the 60's. dewpoints also in the 60's. that rain could total up to over two inches of some much needed rainfall. we talk about overhe storms just scattered around each afternoon. very difficult to break a drought. it is systems like this as we now start to get closer to the autumn season and kind of a uniform rainfall that certainly does help the situation any way we can get it. it has come in the way of embedded thunderstorms as well early this morning. a few more moving across southern areas of the state. some pretty loud lightning overnight. you can see there's a back edge this to here. there's more lined up to the south and west. scrape across southern areas of the state. for the time being though again very organized rainfall out there. there will be localized two plus inch amounts out of this, especially through the monadnock region and through some areas of the southern half of the state. still some heavy rain to go between now and 7:00 or 8:00 this morning before it really starts to lighten up. i suspect the afternoon will be drier especially up in the north country. we're looking at clouds and a few sunny breaks later on today. temperatures won't have far to go to get back into the 70's. we're currently in the little bit of a lower visibility out there. the visibility not too terrible in most locations to slow you down for the morning commute. dewpoints are running high. likely through tomorrow before we turn less humid on wednesday and remain warm through wednesday as well. you can see in the modified air mass back to the west. still warm. that means temperatures this afternoon in the 70's. upper 70's to mid 80's tomorrow with a little bit of humidity in the air. still from the mid 70's to lower range of the 80's on wednesday. confined to southern areas. there may be one up north if you get a little bit of sunshine this afternoon. from there, partial clearing and patchy fog thereby an issue overnight tonight in several locations. that will likely give way to partial sunshine tomorrow. the warm day with humidity in the air. still warm on wednesday. that will be with full sunshine. we'll kick off the autumn season on thursday with sunshine as well before the next system starts to arrive. that looks like a quick-moving cold tonight that will mean business. at the end of the week, we'real of autumn truly in the air following the calendar by the end of the week. ahead of that, thereby temperatures in the 70's on friday. chance of a passing shower up north in the morning or in olympics. erin: dozens of dogs took part in the competition competing for medals and events like diving, jumping, swimming, and running. the competition was open to all dogs regardless of their experience. the owner of one dog who won gold said that she had no idea her beagle was so talented. the competition coincided with the end of the par o sean: it wrapped up over the weekend. dogs are athletic. comes up in the next half an hour, a magical night for c.h.a.d. the amount of money raised. erin: more drama as the red sox went for a weekend sweep of the yankees who once again got some when i first found out that carl had been using heroin on and off for a year. i immediately thought not my son. i found him in his bathroom with a syringe still in his hand and that was the worst day of my life. annie kuster is leading the fight regarding this opioid epidemic. she's trying to do everything she can to get laws changed. she's definitely a leader. i just love annie. we are one nation you on this monday, september 19th. we are getting some much needed rain out there. some areas could see about two inches of rain when this is all through. sean: it's been a while since we had rain. it feels muggy too. kevin will talk weather in a moment. first the top stories on questioned in connection with a weekend bombing in new york that injured 29 people. they found five more explosive devices in new jersey. the pope memorial is in dire need of donations after taking in more than two dozen animals over the weekend, on top of the 40 it took in on thursday. bowe police are helping track down a now and again. finally today we're getting real rain. kevin: i guess the phrase when it rains, it pours, setting up what we've seen. a few spots in south western new hampshire. two, two getting reports of lots of water on the road in manchester as you are approaching the manchester airport. the d.o.t. crews are trying to get that cleaned out of the way. 93 north is slow going in hooksett. it is also pretty slow on the everett turnpike on the southbound side getting out of the bedford tolls and making your way down to exit 12. all other major roads are traveling below the posted speed limit. the heavy rain continu to fall. sean: all right. deb, thanks. concerns are mounting this morning following explosions in new york and new jersey that left more than two dozen people injured. erin: the fbi is questioning people after stopping last night. pulled over on the brooklyn highway. this morning new york residents wake up to heightened security. >> you'll so a substantial n.y.p.d. presence. bigger than ever. spreading fear of the 9/11 attacks. officials release photo and the second unexploded pressure cooker device. they are looking into weather those deviced are connected, as well as any possible link to the pipe bomb blast. cell phones were discovered at both new york is asking for vigilance. >> when we see the amount of damage, we were lucky there were no fatalities at the time. reporter: the governor says it is still early. there's no evidence the chelsea bombing is connected to international terrorism. erin: the pope memorial spca in concord is asking sean: on thursday the shelter took in 38 cats and dogs. ray brewer on what the shelter is dealing with. ray: very crowded. thursday. the majority of them rescued from an apartment. several more were surrendered or strays. on friday, the spca says it took in five more animals than another seven on saturday. and 15 more on sunday, including eight puppies that are very sick. the overflow of animals forcing the staff to use bathrooms as temporary homes. donations have been coming in, more money and supplies are immediated to help care for all of these animals. >> the biggest need is to update the funds. all of them will be microchipped and continue on. ray: some of the animals brought in over the weekend will be available for adoption. there are penalty of other animals woman from gilmanton is facing numerous charges after police say she lead them on a chase while driving drunk. it all started shortly before 7:00. they clocked sherri driving 90 miles per hour on route 106. officers tried to stop the pickup truck. it kept speeding into laconia and into gilford. the laconia police caught up with the truck when mcdonald's. they refused to open the door. they had to break a window in order to arrest her. she's scheduled to be arraigned today. sean: bowe police are asking for your help. they were trying to arrest 38-year-old christopher benson on saturday night when he took off running. benson is now wanted for resisting arrest and a felon in a danger weapon. she was last seen running through the woods. benson was wearing the concord area. officers say she also has ties to weare. erin: the attorney general's office continues its search for a suspected murder. 23-year-old billy maldonado is wanted in a shooting death. authorities say it is possible that he left the area. if you see him, don't approach him. call your l department right away. sean: the driver is set to face a judge today. 55 yield brad casler is facing charges of vehicle homicide. it stems from a deadly accident in which his suv slammed into the sweet tomato restaurant. 32-year-old gregory morin was killed in the crash. erin: president obama has declared this week prescription opioid and epidemic awareness week. the rate is also down this month compared to the same time last year. it still persists. so far this month amr has responded to 33 overdoses, four of them deadly. last september the emergency service responded to 91 overdoses. >> we're encouraged by particularly by august. september is still training in the right direction. i think safe station is a big part of that. along with the law enforcement work that's been going on and all of the other folks that are behind the scenes putting in a tremendous effort as well. erin: despite the movement, amr saying that people are still dying almost every day. nationwide the number of overdose deaths involving opioids is roughly quad rule would since 1999. sean: lebanon police are investigating a possible meth plans for its future use. the 265,000 square foot building is too costly to repair and too expensive to tear down. sean: a ground breaking ceremony is being held for what will become the only senior living facility in the north country. the morrison will be breaking ground at 65 littleton road. the ceremony begins at 11:00. due to the rising need for senior housing in the area. erin: the concord police department is stuffing its cruisers full of food to help the new hampshire food bank. a stuff a cruiser event took place outside of the market basket yesterday. volunteers collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations for people in need. more stuff a cruiser events will be held this week. one of the shaw's on friday and another at the hannaford on sunday. donations rumors about them picking up someone else. erin: drew pomeranz got the start for the sox. a 4-0 lead. hanley ramirez came through again in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run. his 27th of the season. the game was tied at four in the seventh when run. they rallied to win 5-4. boston opens the series at baltimore tonight. sean: to the racebook now. the sprint cup chase began in chicago. a late caution caused the checker finish and martin truex jr. was strong on the restart and able to get past and hold on for the win. that's the third win of the season for the 78s which qualified him for the next round of the chase. joey l followed by chase elliot, ryan, and keslowski. erin: this is an unusual story. firefighters in rhode island came to the rescue of a man who got himself into a very unusual predictment. his head got stuck. his crews say the man dropped his phone in the water and tried to get it back. it ended up getting his head lodged between the rocks. two and a half hour. they couldn't use air bags. they went with a different method. >> olive oil. lots of olive oil did the trick. we managed to spray him down and applied a lot of olive oil. we were able to dislodge him. he was in good spirits. he saw an otherwise healthy 31-year-old male. erin: how about that? just looped him up. the man was treated for hyperthey are ya and a foot. sean: rock and a hard place. the cdc is urging chicken owners to refrain from kissing their birds. a recent study shows the uptick in the number of period were contracting the bacteria. kevin: if you are in the rain. there's going to be some spots measuring near three inches of rain. this is all needed rainfall. yes, it all comes in a very short eight or nine-hour period. we'll take it any way we can get it. lesser amounts farther north. good drink of water in the north country. it will be a warm and humid day. temperatures are going to work up into the 70's today with the dewpoints tonight. fair skies all the way from tomorrow through thursday. the next front arriving friday. that will make it feel autumn like. heavier rainfall still focused in southern parts of the state and the areas that have seen the heaviest rainfall. you'll see a certain back edge making its way into western parts of vermont right now. that edges across the state later this morning. still the chance of showers or even a few thunderstorms for southern areas of the state into the afternoon. starts to feed in up north of there may be a pop-up thunderstorm. anywhere areas in the lakes region northward going to be drier as we get into the afternoon. some rumbles of thunder out there with heavy downpours. in the spots where we have seen over two inches of rain, that water looking for places to go. not necessarily all soaking in that easily that quickly. there could be some ponding out there early this morning. up north a lighter just about everywhere across the state. something we have needed for quite a while. 60's to near 70 degrees. this is rain-cooled air. dewpoints close to the numbers early this morning. the humidity will remain into the afternoon, likely for tuesday evening before we start to get a little bit more comfortable air starting to feed in. for the time being, temperatures in the 70's today will have dewpoints in the 60's through the afternoon. and we will continue on with that chance of an additional thundershower later on state especially. up north if you catch a few breaks. there may be a thundershower. the partly cloudy skies we'll have later on tonight will set up thick fog in areas that burns off to partial sunshine tomorrow. temperatures up into the mid 80's in southern spots tomorrow. and then continuing to slide back into the lower 80's with less humid conditions by the time we get toward wednesday. highs today will be in the 70's. an additional thundershower a possibility later this afternoon. it should be a much forecast, warm through wednesday and humid through tomorrow. from there, toward the end of the week, another front arriving. it may have a shower or two with it, much cooler and drier air coming in on a breeze. sean: 80 degrees on the first day of fall. kevin: looking from there. erin: a special event was held in manchester over the weekend to benefit the children's hospital at dartmouth. this is the fourth annual storybook ball. i had the pleasure of emceeing this event. they are designed to pick a children's book and deck raid a table using a book as inspiration. more than 30 people created these incredible storybook-themed tables. >> c.h.a.d. helped my daughter and my family. i really wanted to inspire others and get them to come out and create a table. this is one less stress for the parents. my heart. i will do this every year as long as they continue to do it. i love it. erin: this year the children's hospital at dartmouth highlighted the program that treats babies born addicted to opioids. organizers had a goal of raising $150,000 for c.h.a.d. they say the donations surpassed that. it was just amazing. that's the cloudy with a chance of meatballs table. sean: does it make you nervous getting n erin: no, it is really just magical what they put together. sean: great work right there. erin: still ahead, it is a stunt that even evel kneivel wouldn't pull off. brenda willis: when washington bureaucrats threatened
