to top out for this afternoon. let's check the roads with kim. 95 southbound approaching whitemarsh boulevard traffic is moving without problems at this hour. you won't encounter delays as you make your way towards the fort mchenry tunnel toll plaza. however, if you're traveling 95 southbound approaching the beltway, may be slightly delayed as crews are picking up that construction project that had all the outer loop lanes blocked this morning. like i said that project is in the midst of being picked up as we speak. also, we're dealing with 695 between bel air road and 95. left two lanes of traffic are in the midst of being picked up at this time. still a vehicle fire on the scene westbound route 70 past route 29, use caution approaching that. also southbound 895 on the off-ramp, reports of a disabled vehicle. use caution. jfx at north avenue, no incidents there. back to you. 5:30. the only person convicted in the 1988 terrorist bombing -- of flight 103 might be released tomorrow on compassionate reasons. sherrie johnson with more. >> reporter: there's outrage among family members and government officials after news a terrorist who killed hundreds of people may be released from prison. abd al megrahi was convicted of taking part in the bombing of pan am flight 103 on december 21, 1988. the airliner had mostly american passengers, all 259 people on board, 11 on the ground died when the plane crashed into the town of lockerbie in scotland. the former libyan intelligence officer was sentenced to serve a minimum of 27 years in a scottish prison for the bombing but a 2007 review of his case raised the idea he had been a victim of miscarriage of justice. some people in britain say he's innocent while many in the u.s. oppose his release. >> the united states made its views known over a number of months and we continue to make the same point that we think it is inappropriate and very much against the wishes of the families of the victims who suffered such grieveious losses with the actions that led to the bombing of the airline. >> reporter: al-megrahi has terminally ill cancer and his lawyers say his condition is deteriorating. hamid karzai expected to win the election. thousands of polls are open but the threat of violence could keep some voters away. in kabul, helicopters circled overhead as police manned extra checkpoints. in one northern kabul neighborhood a car with loud speakers encouraging people to get out and vote. iraq's prime minister blames sunni insurgents for a wave of deadly bombings in baghdad. and says the iraqi government must re-evaluate security to confront the challenge. yesterday's bombings killed at least 95 people and wounded more than 400. back here on the local front neighbors of mr. james are furious because he was beaten because he's black. neighbors in this close-knit windsor mill neighborhood say james privett is a quiet man. police say he was attacked at fort armistead park while fishing with his wife. calvin lockner was charged with attempted murder along with a hate crime. investigators say lockner goes by the nickname"hitler," has a hitler tattoo on his stomach and has is a member of a white supremacist group. >> it's ridiculous. makes me sick. >> the men jumped out of the truck. >> police are still looking for two other white men involved in the attack. they tell us they are learning more about the suspects, thanks to anonymous tips. lockner remains behind bars without bail. the latest on the political scandal in baltimore city. lawyers for mayor sheila dixon renewed their request for information on all subpoenas issued after the original grand jury indictment was returned back in january. the mayor's lawyers claim any subpoenas issued after the first indictment constitute an abuse of the grand jury system. charges against dixon were dismissed and included in a new indictment. if you have credit cards expect to see changes today. they are supposed to protect us but it may actually lead to new fees. credit card companies are expected to lose revenue because of all the changes. consumer experts say those companies might start hitting us with new charges to make up for it. >> we may be seeing fees on cash advances that weren't there before. increased fees. we may be seeing fees on balance transfers. and those credit card holders, say 55% of americans actually don't carry a balance on their credit cards. they may be seeing fees. we'll see increased expenses added on to rewards. we may see some reduction in access to rewards. >> anybody hear any good news out of that? overnight photographer pete "on the street" o'neill he lit a meditation candle in his bedroom, he fell asleep and accidently knocked the candle over. his bed caught fire. he tried to douse the flames but it got out of hand pretty quickly. the fire spread to three other units and reached three alarms. it happened last night around 11:30 on spicewood court. there was a partial roof collapse. the red cross responded to a fifth resident. some had to go back inside to get their medication. he says it happened so fast. >> the bathroom is two seconds away. i figure i will run in the bathroom, throw water on it. by the time i got back to the bedroom. the bedroom was totally involved. running downstairs, grabbing my shoes, put some stuff in the car, here we are. >> reporter: hannin says he feels stories we're working on for you this morning. police are asking for your help now. they are trying to find the people involved in two separate shootings in pigtown. around 11:30 last night a man was found shot several times in the back. while police were cleaning up that scene on carey and pratt, here comes another call in for another shooting, this one nearby, in the 800 block of carroll street. the unidentified man there had been shot multiple times. both men were taken to the hospital. just before 1:30 this morning we had a young man found lying right in the middle of bell street in northeast baltimore. police tell us he had been shot in the head. he's at the area hospital now. no word on his condition and police have nothing, no motive or suspect to go on. howard county police are looking for at least 100 people including 18 in our state who are victims of a huge identity theft scheme. police say their financial and personal information were found at a hotel in elkridge. it was last monday police were called to the best western on dorsey road after a housekeeper found suspicious documents in the hotel room trash can. four people from florida are facing theft charges. one suspect is facing assault charges for running into three county police cars trying to flee. and police plan to file more charges in connection with the thefts in columbia and also in ellicott city. the life expectancy in this country going up. babies born in 2007 can now expect to live to 78 years old. the u.s. continues to lag behind about 0 other countries. an estimated life span. japan has the longest life expectancy of 83 years. a couple of veteran sitcom stars will be coming back to tv on abc. shelley long of "cheers" and ed o'neal from "married with children" both back on a show down temperature-wise we're looking a little on the muggy side. it hasn't been cooling down too much at night throughout this week. 73 in baltimore as well as easton. 72 york. 81 still in ocean city, maryland. we're looking at mainly clear skies across the state. we have a couple of high thin clouds that are starting to move in already. that will continue throughout the morning hours. and then the clouds got a little thicker as we head into the afternoon hours. there's a trough over top of us. that's a moist air mass so what happens is we have the chance for showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, even into saturday afternoon. then the front comes through and dries us out and things get a lot better as we head into the weekend. that trough, though it's a pain for us, it's going to help us in the long run because hurricane bill is out there in the atlantic ocean. this is still a very strong well developed and organized system. though it's downgraded just a little bit. we're seeing it now as a category 3, that just happened this morning, winds of 125 miles per hour, and moving to the northwest but that trough and front that is coming through our region will help to steer it away from the mainland and so out to sea. we shouldn't take any sort of direct hit but the surf is going to be dangerous and very rough along the coastline. so for the rest of today, 88 degrees for was last monday police were called to the best western on dorsey road after a housekeeper found suspicious documents in the hotel room trash can. four people from florida are facing theft charges. one suspect is facing assault charges for running into three county police cars trying to flee. and police plan to file more charges in connection with the thefts in columbia and also in ellicott city. the life expectancy in this country going up. babies born in 2007 can now expect to live to 78 years old. the u.s. continues to lag behind about 0 other countries. an estimated life span. japan has the longest life expectancy of 83 years. a couple of veteran sitcom stars will be coming back to tv on abc. shelley long of "cheers" and ed o'neal from "married with children" both back on a show called "modern family." sure to bring lots of laughs, we hope. the new movie about julia child's life inspired many people including her own nephew, sam cousins in allentown, pennsylvania, now back in the kitchen cooking up many of his aunt's recipes. many of you can do them in your own kitchen. we'll hear from jocelyn about this in a moment. first the weather with meteorologist susan schrack. >> thank you. good morning. tings are looking nice for us. we have lots of stars out there so it's a clear sky. right now 73 degrees. relative humidity 96%. winds calm. barometric pressure is on the way down temperature-wise we're looking a little on the muggy side. it hasn't been cooling down too much at night throughout this week. 73 in baltimore as well as easton. 72 york. 81 still in ocean city, maryland. we're looking at mainly clear skies across the state. we have a couple of high thin clouds that are starting to move in already. that will continue throughout the morning hours. and then the clouds got a little thicker as we head into the afternoon hours. there's a trough over top of us. that's a moist air mass so what happens is we have the chance for showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, even into saturday afternoon. then the front comes through and dries us out and things get a lot better as we head into the weekend. that trough, though it's a pain for us, it's going to help us in the long run because hurricane bill is out there in the atlantic ocean. this is still a very strong well developed and organized system. though it's downgraded just a little bit. we're seeing it now as a category 3, that just happened this morning, winds of 125 miles per hour, and moving to the northwest but that trough and front that is coming through our region will help to steer it away from the mainland and so out to sea. we shouldn't take any sort of direct hit but the surf is going to be dangerous and very rough along the coastline. so for the rest of today, 88 degrees for the daytime high, partly sunny and you'll have showers and storms likely throughout the afternoon and into the evening hours. let's check the roads with kim. >> things calmed down a little, 95 southbound, just building volume towards the beltway and 895 but no real problems. the earlier disabled vehicles we had have since cleared and leaving us with not a lot going on. no problems to let you know about on southbound 83 and the tunnels are checking in incident-free at this time. jfx at cold spring lane here, where things are probably moving nicely in both directions as we check there. back to you. now it's time to have breakfast with julia child's nephew sam up in the kitchen in allentown, pennsylvania. >> reporter: sam cousins has some delicious memories, with julia child in his family. >> we're roasting this chicken today! on the "the french chef." >> food obviously played a key part growing up. >> mom wasn't always a great cook. i mean, she learned as most of american women did how to cook from julia. we reaped the benefits of that. >> into the oven. >> reporter: sam says julia encouraged his mother to cook. >> julia came to visit one time and she said "this is what you have to cook." she wrote it out in back. of the book. >> reporter: that recipe still holds the spot in sam's stomach. >> beef borginon, the wine stew. one of my favorites. >> reporter: today sam gets his family involved. >> food is really a gesture of love. especially in this family. >> reporter: sam and his wife attended the premiere of "julie and julia" in new york. much as the movie renewed interest in julia child - >> put in pumpkin. >> what do you really like to do? >> eat. >> reporter: for sam it's renewed interest in the heart of the house, the kitchen. >> we went to the movie and said we have to start cooking again. >> reporter: they have. now creating one of her concoctions. chicken breast rolled in parmesan and fresh bread crumbs making it clear julia child cooked up quite a legacy. >> in everyday life there's always something to do. there's work, school, everything else. but to take time and cook, it's just -- there's nothing like it. >> reporter: bon apetite. i spoke
