what's happening. >> nurses treated lechter and williams at the hospital before being arrested and charged with assault and resisting arrest. more details could be released after a former candidate for sheriff in queen ann's county is accused of killing his neighbor. authorities responded to a call around 5 p.m. yesterday. they arrested pete richter. he is suspected of shooting and killing his neighbor over some sort of argument they had. it's bird fever in baltimore. around much of maryland this morning that's the case. the orioles sweeped the rays winning 3 -- swept the rays winning 3 games. they have won the first 3 games and they will try this afternoon against the tigers at camden yards. all of this is making for an electric atmosphere that we have not seen since the late 1990s. abc2 news charley crowson is live as is linda so. they are down at the yard. how is it going down there? >> reporter: well, it's going to be great this morning and into the afternoon. good morning to you. hope springs eternal as it does for every team beginning the major league season. but for baltimore this year, it's especially bright. buck came in with a lot of fanfare and the idea that we were going to have a new attitude for the orioles and that proved true this weekend with a three-game sweep of the tampa bay rays. whether you are a first time to camden yard, as i am this year, or you have been coming your whole life, the baltimore orioles and the fever around the team is going to be special this year. but for one young man, this is something he's been accustomed to his entire life. michael is on the grounds crew and he has been doing this for eight years. more than 600 games with the grounds crew. but over the past three years, he's developed a new talent. it's something that caught attention of management and his boss, and caught the attention of orioles fans and it comes from michael's need for speed. let's listen. >> three years ago, i was in the baltimore sun article and they got me as one of the fastest guy on the crew. and i still am as of today. >> reporter: what michael does with that speed is that during pitching changes, from the bullpen to the dugout, he is responsible for taking the relief pitcher's jacket to the respective dugout and sprints back to the bull pin. this is something that caught the attention of fans over the past few years and usually met with a rousing ovation. you can see a clip of it of michael doing his duties on youtube. he will do it again this year and something he says he has no intention of stopping. so it's something you can look for as well as great baseball today at oriole park at camden yards. this is linda so because a lot of things going in. that is big economic boom for the city and to accommodate, the management put the best foot forward towards getting the field ready. >> reporter: tons of work going on during theoff season. -- during the off season. the lights are back on. that's a great sight to see. you will see the table unbellas open, 3:05 is when the -- umbrellas open. 3:05 is when the first pitch is thrown. lots of changes during the off season. fans are going to find new and improved seats in the seating bowl and club level and upper deck will have wider seats and better sight lines. some suites are bigger. the grounds crew has been working nonstop to prep the field and will be here first thing this morning to put on the finishing touches. there's only one thing they still need. mother nature to cooperate with lots of sun when it's time for the first pitch. nicole the head grounds keeper says as long as what happened in 2003 doesn't happen today, she will be in good shape. >> 2003, i was an assistant head grounds keeper here at the time, and it snowed during the middle of the game on opening day. and we had to delay the game for a little bit. that was crazy. we didn't know what to do. we didn't know whether to tarp the field or what. >> reporter: new concessions. big things to look out for is crab cakes with tons of meat. they were both so good they are going to offer you both. two different crab cakes. you will get healthier choices, too with a variety of wraps, and some of your favorites will be here. the big boug a huge sandwich with extra beef, pork and turkey. i am hungry. >> reporter: i am hungry. it will kick around after first pitch. jake is going to get the ballfrom buck and his season debut had a great run in the grapefruit league a great day for the orioles fans. rick is going to be against him for the tigers. and they had a good showing yesterday in new york against the yankees. >> they did. and they said they will open the gates up here at noon for all the fans who want to come for the pregame festivities. get here the hall of famer's doctors are optimistic that an infection that put him in the hospital will be cleared up shortly. 9 hospital has -- the hospital has been overwhelmed with phone calls and e-mails and brooks is thanking fans for prayers and the outpouring of support. and we will have live team coverage all morning and throughout the day leading up to the first pitch this afternoon. game time is morning. some kids in one oklahoma school are getting an unexpected day off. we will tell you about the winds that packed a mighty punch at this school and the repairs that could take weeks. and the the southern plains in oklahoma where there's crazy weather. it knocked off the roof of a high school. take a look at this individual o. this is near tulsa, observation lahomea. stiff winds ripped the roof off the building that holds offices and computer labs and the cafeteria and a couple classrooms. school obviously canceled today and most likely will be canceled tomorrow. now, maryland's most powerful doppler radar and the forecast certified most accurate by weatherate. >> those storms yesterday producing some incredible video. we got more to show you in a moment from wisconsin with large hail. let's go down to camden yards. we are the only station in baltimore with live weather conditions at oriole park at camden yards. 51 degrees down there currently. wind southeast at free. once the warm front pushes through, we will surge the wind. it will turn out to be a very warm day and a very windy day. opening day, temperatures soar into the 70s. winds will gust between 30 and 40 miles per hour. storms will arrive probably after midnight. we will be dry for most of the game and tomorrow rapidly falling temperatures. our forecast in a moment. right now kim brown with traffic. >> reporter: justin, we have the first accident of the morning. this is up in parkton at becklyville road you will see police on the scene there. as we look livality 895, no probable -- live at 895, no problems towards the harbor tunnel. northbound lanes look good. no problem on the fort mchenry toll plaza. we have reports of a traffic light out in towson. york road at fairmount avenue. expect all that and more when "good morning maryland" returns. ñwñ[= 5:15 right now. here's what's happening today around state of maryland. this evening, baltimore county will host the 8th alual rally for the homeless. organizers will meet a little before 6 this evening at trinity episcopal church in towson. there's going to be a march to the county courthouse. baltimore city fire investigators will sift through debris inside an east baltimore mattress warehouse after a fire gutted most of it. the flames broke out around 1:30 yesterday afternoon at the corner of east madison street and harford avenue. it took several hours for firefighters to get the fire under control. the fire went to three alarms but there were no reports of injuries. two train accidents that left a man dead will have investigators tied up for most of the day looking for a cause. a train hit and killed one man on the tracks near jones road and white marsh before four yesterday morning. and also 25 minutes later a. pedestrian was hit -- later, a pedestrian was hit onerousel street near m and t bank stadium in downtown baltimore. that person survived, but right now there's no word on the condition. police are have not released their eye dent -- police have not released their identitiesand are trying to figure out why they were on the tracks in the first place. look at this video out of the milwaukee, wisconsin area where hail covered backyards over the weekend. a lot of thunderstorms swept through. look at that closeup with southeastern wisconsin receive pea to dime-sized hail. roads were icy causing vehicles to slide into ditches. pretty large hail storms. it's interesting to slice that in half and-see with the -- in and you can see with the rings how many hail storms built up to create that. we will shift to the east over the next couple days and we will get a taste as the spring weather can produce that nasty weather on this 4th of april. record are spread from 20 to the low end and 83 on the high end. looks like today, we are going to be close to that high end. showers pushing off towards the north had some snow mixed in with that. that was also the reason we had some severe weather pushing through our region last night. it was not severe, but it appeared that way with a vivid lightning display as the storms blew through yesterday evening. that's north of here. we have a warm front swinging through. and there's the line of severe weather that will break out and push into ohio during the course of the afternoon with a moderate risk of severe weather. we will get more of the reports today and twisters thrown into the mix. the storms will carry towards the east and across the mountains overnight. so as we follow our future radar, you will notice we are looking at the threat of the line of storms that will be pretty nasty especially lower portion of the ohio and into the tennessee river valley. that bumps eastbound. we will get showers overnight. but most of the daylight hours will be dry. tomorrow morning a rough ride with storms pushing through with the frontal boundary between 6 and 9:00 in the morning. behind that, a brief speared of- - period of snow and we cool down for one day. 79 today. not a record. but look at winds 30 to 40 miles per hour. that will make fly balls very interesting at camden yards. but it should be dry. tonight showers and storms. and especially after midnight. kim. >> reporter: justin, right now we are off to a very good start on the roadways especially traveling on any of the major interstates. 95 is looking good from harford county towards the beltway. and as we look live at 695, this is on southwest corner at wilkins. traffic is moving well on both loops. no reported problems across the top side and 83s checking in as well. one accident at becklyville road and kids schoolhouse road. police are on the scene. traffic lights not working at york road and fairmont and expect road closures downtown baltimore in and around camden yards for the orioles home opener. those don't start until 10. so at least that comes after the morning rush. megan, back to you. 5:19. the united states is helping for another 24 hours
