we will deal with a coastal flood advisory because of a steady east wind piling up and more steady rain, safely above freezing by 10 degrees, so winter weather concerns not part of the system. you can go to abc2news.com/download. now let's get to the breaking news. a robbery inside mercy hospital. >> abc2's christian schaffer has more details. >> reporter: around 1:00 this afternoon police said a man inside mercy medical center showed a gun to two people and robbed some of their property. this is the main entrance on st. paul place. police aren't confirming exactly where it happened. an earlier report was it was on the third floor. the earlier report said it was two hospital employees who were robbed. police would not confirm that detail. they would only say the two people were not injured. here's what he had to say a short time ago. >> we believe that we have two victims. it's important to net that from the scene there were no reported injuries. we believe three were just robbed. the suspect did have a handgun with him that he displayed during the incident. >> reporter: we are still waiting on a surveillance photo of the suspect in this case, only a vague description, black male in his 50s. that's a little bit older than the typical robbery u.s. maybe that will give police something to look at. they are working with hospital security to try to investigate the case. once again, two people robbed inside mercy hospital around 1:00 this afternoon. police now looking for the suspect. live in downtown baltimore, christian schaffer, website whoib schaffer -- abc2 news. >> hundreds had to be evacuated from the johns hopkins medical building. >> a dozen people got sick. we have the latest on this hazmat situation. >> reporter: at this point they're not sure exactly what touched off the situation here at this building here in hampden. here's what we do know so far. this happened just before 10:00 this morning. one person, city fire crew were called here. one person said they were ill. when the crews got here, when ems got here they found several people were sick. 10 people were taken to the hospital, problems with breathing. they're trying to figure out what was going on. they still haven't determined it. in fact, they tested the building for everything. >> we checked the hear for carbon monoxide, oxygen levels, hydrogen sulfide, hydrojen cyanide. currently our hazmat union notes are checking for any type of hazardous materials that their specialized equipment could pick up, which could be a wide array of things and we have the capabilities. >> reporter: they went floor to floor and were not able to find anything. they're looking at whether this was food poisoning. hopefully they'll have an official answer later on tonight or sometime tomorrow morning. >> you can follow us on abc2 news. dozens of homes without water after a 10-inch water main in east baltimore breaks. it happened just before 11. this is in the oliver neighborhood. tonight 51 homes do not have water. for the second time in as many weeks, a classroom assistant at a harford high school faces charges of having sex with a student. the suspect had sexual relations with a 16-year-old girl over a 4-month period. >> reporter: he was known as coach ferris but it was here at bel air high school where anthony lee ferris, jr. served as an assistant and used his classrooms for sexual ren rendezvouses. >> a 25 year penalty. >> reporter: the state's starn said ferris faces serious time if he's convicted on a series of charges, including perverted practices. this is the second assistant to be arrested and charged with such charges this month. a few weeks away police arrested amanda miller on charges she had sex with a 15-year-old boy. >> you can't tolerate this sort of stuff. you hope that people who take positions in the school system understand that the rule is absolutely not. you may not fraternize. you may not have a relationship with a student regards of whether the student consents or not. we will prosecute these, every one of them. >> reporter: the school system plaistlessed ferris on administrative leave last month when the allegations first surfaced and then terminated his employment on friday when bel air police arecommendsed him at the system's central office in bel air. in harford county, jeff hager, abc2 news. >> he made ballet same day. >> last year it happened almost 1,000 times, 1,000 times, a teacher or staff in this city's public school system assaulted by a student. this is one of the many shocking numbers you're going to here in our investigation tonight. our investigators found on average four city school personnel get attacked each and every day. the assaults range from minor to incredibly severe. we'll share a story about a teacher who was savagely beaten by a student and show you the city plan to get these statistics moving in the right direction. >> faced with children right now who have problems, none that you command imagine and to treat them just like we treated children in the 1960s is not the appropriate response. >> we want you to find out what the school system thinks is the right response, students who are committing these assaults and the struggle for some students to get back inside the classroom. it's a very important story you'll watch an abc2 news at 11. the man accused of break or sneaking into the high school is expected in court. just thin beaumont is charged with trespassing. when police found him beaumont said he was bullied at school when he was a student. beach month said hoe came back to face his fears and check out the security. police got a search warrant for his home and found several weapons including an ak-47. all those weapons were very rare, it does present a danger when preteens go out and play sports. so that's the primary function of these school sports physicals. the other thing we were look for is high blood pressure and any other abnormalities that may come out of a basic physical. >> that's a good idea. if the problem is spotted, they recommend parents take their child to the doctor for a follow-up. >> all right. let's start off with a look at maryland's most powerful radar. where's the rain? decent band coming through here. with heavy rain that passed through the eastern shore but there's more rain south. look at this through the eastern shore of virginia. some of that rain will overspread the bay and hit places like anne arundel county. so not done with the rain just yet. that is for sure. more rain will continue to push in. all right. big perspective. it is a large system, a large storm, double barrel low pressure. that has come to fruition as we see one just west of baltimore and southwestern, pennsylvania. secondary low south of chicago. it's putting down heavy snows across the great lakes. in maryland it's more rain. at times there will be low lying ponding of water, some isolated urban flooding. otherwise, temperatures above freezing. this is not a winter threat. the only threat we have will be a little bit of coastal flooding. these wind gusts are coming up. 40s at the top of the hour in baltimore. that's a strong push of wind across the chesapeake, piling up the water. you see the wind direction due west out of east. so it's an easterly wind that will continue to pile up that high tide water. that's why we have the coast pal flood advisory eastern harford county, anne arundel south into calvert cliffs. all right. here's the setup. more rain coming. steady wind feeding in from the east. as we look at when it will taper off, after 10 or 11. it will taper off into showers. light showers tomorrow. don't look for a sunny dry day but it will be a somewhat mild day in the low 50s and thursday staying cloudy again. here's the warm air that's brace economy in place right around the carolina peed month toward virginia beach. it's going to wrap in team, low 50s. this is going to be brief. the last day of february, temperatures begin to fall the -- that night. friday temperatures will be colder and windier all in the wake of this power house storm with two distinct areas of low pressure, large wave of precipitation coming up out of the gulf. again, that low pressure area sitting on top of us tonight and drifting. there will still be a breeze and there will be some impact in terms of instability showers. tonight heavy rain at times. it will be slight along the coastal areas. tomorrow 55, cloudy with showers breezy. tomorrow night we dry things out but keep the threat of a shower during the day thursday. then temperatures falling to kick off march, windy conditions, 40s. that's it. as we start the first five days of march, not getting above 3450 degrees.
