the fire happened at 9:00 at the the ohio river. the building, which dated back to 1831, was closed at the time of the fire. someone passing by saw the flames and called the fire department. when firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof and front windows. crews were working to put the fire out and some resident managed to grab the sign off the moments later, the building collapsed. residents say they were heart broken to see a piece of their history destroyed. >> it was an historical treasure in kentucky. it was also a community center for everybody that lived around here. it was the heart and soul of our community. everybody that lives within a 10 to 15 mile radius of rabbit hash would come down and claim it as their own. jonathan: officials say the icy conditions and the merchandise in the store made the fire hard to put out. a fire at a two-family home in oakley is under investigation. officials say the fire started on the second floor of a house on millsbrae avenue saturday afternoon. someone passing by had to knock on the door of the first floor to tell the people inside the building was on fire. those living on the second floor were not home at the time. the fire was quickly knocked down. damage is estimated at $60,000. a man is found dead inside of a car in westwood. police have arrested that man, 23-year-old,en donta williams, and charged him with murder. wlwt's jenell williams has. reporter: a car crashed into a pole on anderson ferry. neighbors rushed to help the driver. >> my son was certained. we thought it was a lady. because of the hat, it looked like a lady's hair. he ran over to the car. he was going to help. when he got to the car, he saw the face. reporter: police have released investigation. the driver, derrick johnson's lifeless body, was found inside morning. neighbors say the car didn't make a loud sound when it crashed into the pole. >> a neighbor called and said that somebody had wrecked into ran to the window to see what was going on. reporter: they thought the person had possibly lost control of the car. neighbors were horrified to learn someone had been shot and killed on their street. neighbors are relieved police made an arrest in the case. >> usually don't have any problems. i know we've had a couple cars broke into during the summer. but otherwise, there's nothing really that goes on here. this is a quiet little neighborhood. we'd like to keep it that way. jonathan: investigators haven't said how the two men involved knew each other. witness tried to help the victim, but it was too late. >> justice scalia dedicated his life to the cornerstone of our democracy. the rule of law. jonathan: a loss on the supreme court. justice antonin scalia, the court's longest serving justice, died saturday. he was one of the most influential conservative members. brian moore is in washington with more on his death and how he's being remembered. reporter: outside the u.s. staff, the towering legal figures of our time. reporter: he was 79, the longest serving justice on the current court. still, his death at a texas rang came out warning and in the middle of a court calendar, with nothingless than the boundaries of presidential power under view. this sets the stage for a battle for his successor. on a polarized bench, he was as well known for his sense of humor as his so far on wlwt radar, the returns right now, these are likely not making it to the ground. we have radar amplified quite a bit to show flakes to the southwest. it's part of what's tailing back across indiana and illinois. that's heavier bands of snow developing and sliding off to the east into our direction. so the morning time frame for the entire region should be fine between now and 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. midday, snow arrives from the west and will spread in. we have at noon today a winter weather advisory that begins for the cincinnati area with the excess of fayette and union counties. we're expecting snow as well. all of us until 10:00 tomorrow morning. most of the snow in the form of kyme lawsuiting snow will fall today. tapering snow showers tonight. between 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, not a lot the back end of this advisory. futurecast with the cloud cover today, we may see a couple of flakes flying at this point in our western counties. the computer model not putting much out there yet. but builds it in quickly past 2:00 and 3:00. by 4:00 and 5:00, most of us in the snow. light to moderate, but steady for quite a few hours. three or four hours, steady kentucky square dance is helping veterans heal from their wartime fraum traumas. organizers of dancing well say they designed the series in fort knox to improve soldiers' memories. also lowered pain, reduced anxiety and reconnected bonds. now more veterans are taking to the dance floor. >> i bet i wasn't here dancing three minutes. i had a big grin on my face and the other vets were all grinning. the volunteers are grinning. >> i said this is fun. >> hard to be dower when square dancing. the dancing is free for veterans and their families. organizers help to start a new session soon. some of the original veteran dancers are serving as volunteers for dancing well. on saturday, hundreds of scantly clad runners made their way through mt. adams. the cincinnati cupid's undie run is one of three dozen races nationwide. the run raises money for childhood tumor research. the run has raised more than $8 washington, d.c., hosted a cume id's undy run saturday. hundreds showed up. there they are. watch that starting tape. their undergarments were to raise money. the goal was five million dollars. it was below freezing in d.c., but obviously, from the video, you can see that didn't stop this brave bunch from supporting a good cause. my goodness. thousands of people channeled their inner polar bear as they plunged into the atlantic ocean off the jersey shore. do you see the theme that we're going for here? more than 2,000 brave sowles jumped into the ocean as part of the plunge. it's a fundraiser for the chamber of commerce and revitalation. the run and walk for autism will be held 4, 2016. this is news 5 today. jonathan: thanks for joining us on this valentine's sunday. i'm jonathan hawgood, this is meteorologist jennifer schack. so what's the deal with the snow definitely coming? jennifer: snow is coming. it build in this afternoon. most accumulation comes down today. here's the radar. so far, just the clouds increasing. but you can see snow bands setting up from illinois into indiana, pushing our way for the afternoon. the whole air mass of developing snow will be arriving. anything hitting the ground down to switzerland and carol counties will be limited for the early morning. we'll be watching that, trying to spread in, as we head to late morning, midday. quiet. futurecast at noon, we should have snow showers in the western counties already. they'll build in past 2:00 and 3:00 for downtown. everyone, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, we're expecting snow. that should be the time period for the afternoon to the evening, where it will be heaviest for most of us. it tapers for the overnight into snow showers. we still have activity through the night. most of our accumulation is today. so the time frame for that will be sliding across the region beginning in our western counties for the midday. afternoon hours, our late evening hours for the eastern counties. most of us, two or three inches of snow. one-inch totals might be limited. we're looking more two and three-inch totals. if we're going to see one, one and a half, it will be northeastern counties. tonight. then tapering showers for our overnight forecast. so snow on the way. your time frame for today, temperatures climbing into the teens by midday. the snow spreadsy west y from west to east. accumulating snowfall. temperatures in the mid 20s. two to three inches for most by late evening. we'll talk more about what we're expecting for monday with a mix of precipitation coming up. jonathan: a local homeless shelter forced to turn people away. bitter temperatures increasing the need for shelter. natalie clark takes you inside the only shelter in clermont county and introduces you to a she would be lost. >> i'm scared. i don't know. i don't want to cry, because i really don't know. reporter: with no place to go, stephanie brought her daughters to the james saul homeless shelter at the end of last year. >> if i didn't have this, i don't know where i would have been right now. reporter: she's one of hundreds of people who turn to the shelter in batavia for assistance. but even in this bitter cold, the 37-bed shelter is forced to turn people away. >> it's very hard. there's no -- because where are they going to go? reporter: clermont county community services took over the shelter more than a decade ago. now it serves more than 500 people a year. with more money and a larger staff, the folks who work here could serve hundreds more. >> when someone shows up at your door step, and they have children, and you don't have room to house them, it's heart wrenching. way, the shelter relies on grants and donations. it's still not enough for the only homeless shelter in the clermont county. the shelter relies on monetary donations. things break daily, just like this drier. as costs continue to rise, the shelter's funding remains the same. >> we do sometimes have people that will provide tents and blankets and we can provide those for people. but that's sad to know that you're going to have a family out there in a field or in a car trying to stay warm. reporter: still, those who are able to lay their heads there say they're grateful for the temporary home. >> everyone falls down. it's just at this place being able to take your hand and help you back up. reporter: in batavia, natalie clark, wlwt news 5. jonathan: the shelter is always looking for after a crash claims the lives of five people. it's said to have been caused by a driver going the wrong way on i-75 early saturday. it hit an suv carrying four people. alcohol is suspected in the crash. the names of those involved not yet released. happening today, the reds community will say good-bye to long-time clubhouse manager bernie stowe. he died tuesday at the age of 80. his visitation takes place from 3:00 to 7:00 today at elder high school. his burial is tomorrow morning at 9:30 at the holy family church on west eighth street. stowe joined the reds in 1947. kroger is also creating a public tribute to stowe during the daytona 500. the reds tweeted this photo of the sticker the kroger car will an election year battle brewing over the future of the supreme court. from the white house to capitol hill to the campaign trail, the death of justice antonin scalia is setting off debate over who should nominate his replacement. wlwt news 5's aixa diaz reports from the washington bureau. reporter: president obama says she'll nominate justice scalia's successor in due time, but getting the person confirmed will be an uphill battle. president obama expressed condolence 79-year-old a brilliant and energetic justice. he also announced his intention of choosing a supreme court justice nominee. >> there will be plenty of time for me to do so and for the senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote. reporter: republican majority leader mitch mcconnell, who sets the senate schedule, says the american people should have a choice in the next supreme court justice. until we have a new president. candidates weighed in on the expected nomination during the cbs news debate saturday night. >> i think it's up to mitch mcconnell and everybody to stop it. delay, delay, delay. >> we ought to let the next president of the united states decide who is going to run the supreme court. >> we should be thinking about how can we create healing in the land. >> we need to put people on the bench who understand the constitution is not a living and breathing document. it's to be interpreted as originally meant. >> the next president needs to appoint someone with a proven conservative record, similar to justice scalia. >> the senate needs to stand strong and say we're not going to give up the u.s. supreme court for a generation. reporter: hillary clinton says republicans have pledged to block whoever the president nominates. jonathan: in case you were wondering, obama did nominate and have approved kagan and sotomayor. that's two. justice on the current court, appointed by ronald reagan in 1986. ohio's democratic party says both clinton and sanders will speak at the party's legacy dinner that happens in march. it's planned for march 13 at the columbus convention center, the weekend before ohio's primary election. early voting for ohio's primary starts next wednesday. today on "meet the press," chuck todd discusses the importance of south carolina and the battle there for each candidate, especially ohio's governor john kasich. >> john kasich needs to raise a bunch of money. he needs to hope the money comes in and does help him propel in south carolina. ideally, i think he'd love to figure out a way to say i'm going to skip south carolina and focus on michigan, ohio, illinois, a bunch of jennifer. jennifer: so far, it's been quiet. the last 45 minutes to an hour, we've seen light snow showers set up in extreme southwestern counties, gallatin, grant counties. the morning will not be a problem. we'll watch the southwest counties closely for the next couple hours. most of our snow is still not arriving until this afternoon. if you look at the wlwt radar expanded out, we have bands from illinois into indiana and trying to tail into the southwest counties here for the morning hours. that's not the main story. the main event arrives later this afternoon. the winter weather advisory, the purple winter storm warning for central and southern kentucky. the snow will be sliding their way as well this afternoon. we have the advisory starting at noon today. lasting through 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. though most of our snow is falling today. range, high resolution model. the morning band could drop some tricky travel problems down through gallatin, carroll, switzerland counties to the southwest for the next couple of hours. though i think this may be overdoing it just a little bit. the contouring of the colors. we may see some light snow showers this morning. this band slides out and then our main area of snow will arrive this afternoon. we'll wait until the afternoon accumulating snowfall and several inches are expected. here's the futurecast at noon. now we're going to a longer range model that will take us through the event. we'll see snow build into downtown by 2:00 and 3:00 this afternoon. it will spread for everyone by 3:00 and 4:00 into the evening and starts to taper into scattered snow showers past 10:00 and 11:00 tonight. most get accumulation. most of the accumulation is this afternoon and evening. scattered snow showers through the night into early tomorrow morning will be impactful. widespread snowfall by 3:00. a 90% coverage. and evening with all of us getting the snow. temperatures not going too far today. we'll be climbing through the 20s. late evening highs will be in the mid 20s. we end up with around two to three inches for a good portion of the region. one, one and a half inch totals for a couple of spots in the northeast counties. most will get two or three out of this. those higher than three inch totals will be reserved to our extreme southern counties. we're at 13 right now for the air temperature, but the wind chill feels like three degrees. an east wind at seven miles an hour. satellite and radar showing the snow starting to build across the midwest. it will slide in for us later this afternoon. this will be a good portion of accumulating snowfall. this will be our main event over the next 24 hours. sliding through today. we taper into snow showers for the overnight. take a look for monday. we talked about the second storm coming in from the southwest. it's going to bring a good amount of warm air with it. it is trending towards the side of a mix or cold rain for us it is trending for own thousand gallon saltwater pool. >> that's so we can manage them as individuals. we are taking body weights on them and that's how we know how much to feed them every day. reporter: for those wondering what to eat on fridays during lent, these shark rays have a few good ideas. >> we're feeding them king crab and shrimp right now, hoping to increase their crab food and as well as some
