cooney. all your headlines are straight ahead. but first a check of the weather with wlwt news 5 meteorologist randi rico. randi: there are a couple of pockets of thunderstorms this morning. we have watched showers and thunderstorms south of cincinnati. that little cluster over 71, 75 split, about an hour or so ago outside louisville, it had the potential of tossing down hail. that has weekend substantially and currently brings some rain right there around the 71, 75 split. coming down pretty good over toward curtained in -- further south, folks in owen county like to see downpours near monterey. to 70. this will be the warmest air of the day. 50' s for the next couple of hours. making it back to the upper 60' s this afternoon. lisa: thank you. we' re following several breaking stories this morning. the american tourist who allegedly attempted to steal a propaganda banner from a restricted area of his hotel in north korea has been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in prison. otto warmbier, a 21-year-old virginia, was convicted and sentenced in a one-hour trial this morning at north korea' s supreme court. the former wyoming student was charged with subversion. mark: before we get to politics, re staying on top of breaking news of a vehicle found at the bottom of the ohio river. lisa: the recovery effort remains underway after the car went over the combs-hehl bridge during a 12-car accident. wlwt news 5' s dan griffin is leading the way with the investigation and what witnesses say happened. dan: good morning. there are still a lot of questions in the investigation. campbell county officials tell us the search efforts have stopped. no word if this will continue once the sun comes up. investigators say the car plunged into the ohio river in one of a series of crashes last night. we' re told there were 12 vehicles involved in four separate crashes during rush hour last night on the combs-hehl bridge. crashes. it' s not clear how many people may have been in the car, which was found at the bottom of the river. campbell county' s police chief wouldn' t comment on how many people are believed to be dead. but witnesses say the scene was surreal. >> there was a first initial bang and i thought it was a gun shot, so i looked up. there was probably five bangs following that and me and my dad are sitting here in the driveway . we look up and this red suv literally is flipped over the barrier and went into the river nose first and bobbed up and then just disappeared. dan: the boone county water rescue team is trying to figure out how many people are in the car on how to remove them and the car from the river. we will keep you updated as we move through the morning. live in campbell county, dan mark: thank you. new this morning, police in springfield township are investigating a stabbing that happened in the 1900 block of bluehill drive. police called in canines after it happened around 12:20 this morning. one male victim was transported to university hospital. no word yet on the victim' s condition or suspects. lisa: we have a major victory for john kasich. it' s a win he needed to stay in the race. kasich took the lead over trump with 46.8%. trump had 35% of the vote. wlwt news 5' s john london reports from berea, ohio, where kasich and his supporters celebrated the win. >> the state of ohio gave john kasich what he hoped for, a solid win over donald trump. take a look as the confetti came down here in berea. kasich and family were showered with it as the celebration here kasich winning most of the counties in ohio and vowed to take the gop nomination fight into pennsylvania and the rest of the country, believing his campaign is catching fire and that as national attention grows, his message will catch on more with the rest of america. here' s part of what kasich told his supporters. mr. kasich: we have one more trip and i will become the president of the united states. thank you very much. john: kasich goes to philly wednesday fresh off this heady celebration and a win that keeps his campaign alive. a long way to go yet, but the kasich campaign knows it wasn' t going anywhere without ohio and they got it. in berea, john london, wlwt news 5. lisa: ohio governor john kasich will talk about his big primary show. watch it right here on wlwt news 5 starting at 7:00. mark: despite a push from donald trump in ohio, it wasn' t enough to get the win last night. however, the republican front-runner was able to bring home wins in four out of the five states holding primaries tuesday. wlwt news 5' s todd dykes has more on trump' s campaign for us. todd: despite losing ohio, donald trump continues to add to his delegate lead. he had big victories in florida north carolina and illinois. , but the key victory came in the sunshine state because it was a winner-take-all delegate haul among the gop candidates. that means trump gained an additional 99 delegates in florida. he' s trying to cross a key threshold by claiming more than 50% of the overall delegate available to the candidate. here' s what trump told supporters who gathered for a victory party at a club trump owns in palm beach, florida. mr. trump: this is an amazing process. it is very tough. if you get to the end, you can handle a lot of things including pressure. there is nothing like it. lies, disgusting reporters, horrible people. some are nice. some are nice. some really disgusting people back there. we are going to go forward and we are going to win. we' re going to win for the country and we are not stopping. we' victories. thank you very much. thank you, thank you. todd: trump mentioned marco rubio during his speech but he did not say anything about john kasich. trump supporters know republican party leaders may look to kasich as their final chance to rally behind a candidate who might be there' that' s a long way to go before the in july. todd dykes, wlwt news 5. lisa: hillary clinton feeling confident after her ohio win and is now less than 900 delegates short of clinching the democratic nomination. courtis fuller has the response from both democratic candidates. after clinton' s important win. courtis: it was a big night for hillary clinton because she saw her numbers increase to the all important 2383. of course that is the number needed to clinch the nomination. there was a confidence and a little extra pep in her step. she said there is a big difference running for president and being president. after losing michigan, this was the rebound night she needed. she didn' t ask bernie sanders to get out of the race, but there was a clear hint in her victory speech that she is pivoting beyond the primary contest and turning her attention to the general election. mrs. clinton: this may be one of of our lifetime. the next president will walk into the oval office next january, sit down at that desk, and start making decisions that will afect the lives and the livihoods of everyone into -- in this country indeed , everyone on this planet. courtis: meanwhile, listening to bernie sanders tonight, it didn' t sound like he was going anywhere anytime soon. mr. sanders: you want to vote for me, that' s great. if not, that' s ok, too. but what i do not want to see are billionaires spending unlimited sums of money buying elections, undermining the democracy that has made our country so great. courtis: for the democrats in ohio, the delegates are split proportionally based on yesterday' s vote. i' m cpourtis fuller, wlwt news 5. lisa: it wasn' t just ohio that clinton was able to put in her win column. she won all five primaries missouri could potentially be contested by senator bernie sanders, who only lost to clinton in the state by two points. randi: we have some rain and thunder and lightning. it is pretty spotty through owen county, south of owenton. this line is dying out as it is rolling through. between now and 6:00, we will do with spotty showers or storms. i got this back saying, just let me get to work and get my daughter to school ok. most of the rain will be out of here before the kids' alarm m goes off carrying government officials exploded in northern pakistan today killing at least 15 people. police say more than 30 other were wounded. the bus was bringing government employees to work when the bomb exploded. lisa: tv reality star austin lee russell -- better known by the nickname chumlee on his show "pawn stars" -- has been arrested. according to a report, las vegas police seized guns, a gallon plastic bag of marijuana, multiple doses of the anxiety medication xanax, and a small amount of methamphetamine. russell posted a $62,000 bail and was released from jail pending a may 23 court date. mark: sources tell cnn that president obama and his team have completed the vetting court candidates. now the president has to make the final decision on which candidate he wants to nominate to replace late justice antonin scalia. a decision could be announced as early as today. march madness is here once more, and we' re sure you have you brackets glued to your hips. lisa: news 5' s george vogel has an update on the ncaa games and more. george: the ncaa tournament is underway. if you have fairleigh dickinson in your final four, sorry to break the news. florida gulf coast won. in the late game, wichita state over vandy. akron and ohio state met in the n.i.t. game. that is big isaiah johnson, the ohio state winning in overtime. we found a fired up finds at the high school yesterday. they are heading to the state final four for the first time in school history. they will play thursday against akron st. vincent st. mary. there was a big rally in lynchburg last night. the mustangs are going to the final four. lynchburg playing thursday in the division iii semifinal. in goodyear, the reds and royals in the cactus league. billy hamilton, that' s what you want to see out of him. an. hamilton later scored. the game tied at 1-1. he loses his glove on the comebacker but he still gets the out. he allowed just one run as the reds beat the royals. there was a sprained taking a live look outside . we have some thunderstorm activity on our radar this morning. what a busy morning. lisa: we have the primary results in a lot of breaking news action. mark: pile it on. randi: the storms on not very we take a look at the radar. it is mainly south of the ohio river. light rain through canton and campbell pocket. that is pretty light.it was much heftier 30 minutes ago through gallatin county. it had some hail with it down through the louisville. right now some light showers through canton and campbell county. over toward highland heights and over toward alexandria. watching some heavier rain along the 75 corridor and through portions of grant county. heavier rain from kiefer to cordova and the potential for some thunder and lighting. any rumbles of thunder, eastern portions of owen county into it was a stronger system as it rolled through louisville. now weakening through downtown cincinnati. up. over towards indy, 40 mile per hour wind gusts. temperatures will be falling. we are close to70 right now. our temperatures are going to drop off pretty quickly. upper 50' s by 8:00 a.m. we should rebound to about 65 this afternoon. 6:00 a.m., areas of rain move out and the skies will clear out. the current temperature, 68, 69 degrees. back to the mid 60' s this afternoon. another windy st. patrick' highs in the upper 40' s into spring this weekend. guys? lisa: back to commitment 2016 news now. for the first time in a quarter century, former house speaker john boehner won' t head back to congress representing ohio' s eighth congressional district. mark: in a crowded field of 15 gop candidates, warren davidson comes out on top and will wlwt news 5' s karin johnson reports from butler county. karin: warren davidson of troy, ohio, declared the gop winner in this race. that is disappointing news for people who gathered here in middletown at tim derickson' s campaign headquarters. derickson was endorsed by almost all office holders in butler county. he actually came in first in the county. but district is what matters. the eighth congressional district consists of butler, preble, clark, darke, mercer and miami counties. in the district, derickson took second place, behind warren davidson by about 11,000 votes. he' s 46 years old, a resident of he was an army ranger and spent the last 15 years growing companies in southwest ohio. i spoke with him tuesday afternoon in hamilton. mr. davidson: i think, one, people are anxious to have a congressman back in the district, not just somebody that has been speaker. that was a divided thing. it was an honor for our district to have a speaker of the house, someone that served so long, but i think people are also anxious hasn' t been in washington so long, that' s more immediately coming from the experience in the district and i think that' s something i offer, kind of a different experience. the standard path is local government, state government, and on to d.c., and my background' s a little different than that. karin: bill beagle of tipp city, who was endorsed by sheriff richard jones, took third place in this race. in middletown, karin johnson, wlwt news 5. mark: both republicans and democrats face contested races for the u.s. senate in tuesday' s ohio primary. incumbent senator rob portman has been called as the winner on the republican side. political veteran ted strickland november. wlwt news 5' s tammy mutasa takes a closer look at the race. tammy: p.g. sittenfeld giving a very gracious speech tonight, saying even though it' s tough to lose this senate race, he' s learned a lot and calling for democratic unity. sittenfeld said he has reached out to the projected democratic winner, former governor ted strickland. on the republican side, incumbent senator rob portman won the republican spot over don eckhart. it was a packed watch party for sittenfeld at the cincinnati fire museum. his supporters. he says he is proud of the substantive campaign he ran and the exposure he got. but sittenfeld says he needed to have more name regocnition around the state. still, he says never stop working and never stop dreaming mr. sittenfeld: i learned a lot about the people of ohio. they have hopes and dreams and aspirations that deserve meaningful leadership. myself, including that i think there is a resilience there and i' m not someone that' s ever going to give up, so i do see this as a beginning and not an ending in anyway. he said he' ll be back to work at cincinnati' s city council tomorrow. reporting in downtown, tammy mutasa, wlwt news 5. lisa: devleoping now, the protestor who tried to jump on-stage with donald trump is expected in court this morning, now facing federal charges. thomas dimassimo says he wanted to grab the republican front-runner' s microphone, but he wasn' t planning to hurt anyone. he was charged with disorderly conduct and inducing panic. federal agents have now also charged him with illegally entering a restricted area. the misdemeanor charge carries up to a one-year prison sentence. >> cincinnati' s certified most accurate forecast. randi: early this morning we were tracking some showers and a couple of rumbles of thunder. totally gone. temperatures are about to tumble. we will fall off into the 50' s and make it back to the low 60' s this afternoon. it is going to stay very windy
