mark hayes is out this morning. it is very springlike. randi: can we start planting now , i got tweeted over the weekend. it seems like spring is here. towards the end of the week, some 30' s for lows creeping back in. warm air in a chance for showers and thunderstorms. that will be the case over the next 48 hours. you can see some clouds and patchy fog in a few spots. not everywhere. over the last hour or so, we haven' t seen much in the way of rainfall. we take a look at a wider view along the ohio river, rain showers and those are moving in our direction. the rain will start to creep on hand. right now most places almost 60 degrees to start the day. lunchtime, rain showers arrive, 63. expect temperatures around 66. we will talk about a better chance for storms tomorrow. lisa: thank you. it' s the day before the all-important ohio primary, and the last day for residents to participate in early voting. wlwt news 5' s andrew setters is leading the way with how candidates are criss-crossing staying in these final hours. -- the state in the final hours. andrew: after a busy weekend, the candidates aren' t done with ohio yet. there are more stops planned for today. it looks like ohio voters will get a chance to hear from governor john kasich, donald trump, and bernie sanders today. hillary clinton spent time in ohio over the weekend. ohio is seen as the swing state in presidential elections, and it' s a big prize in primary season, too. ohio governor john kasich has made this the make-or-break moment for his campaign. with just about 24 hours to go until the polls open up tomorrow in ohio, the campaigns are doing what they can to get out the vote and the latest polls show just how tight this race is. not only in ohio but other states as well. meanwhile, an nbc news poll shows here in ohio, john kasich is on top for republicans, 39%-33% over donald trump. according to nbc, trump has a more than 20-point edge in florida. ohio governor kasich in last place there. trump is also looking good in illinois, despite his chicago rally being essentially shut down by protesters. governor kasich is in third, . hillary clinton is leading bernie sanders in all states, including here in ohio, where she has a 20-point advantage. today you can vote in person from 8:00 until 2:00 at your board of elections in ohio. tomorrow polls are open from 6:30 in the morning until 7:30 in the evening. andrew setters, wlwt news 5. lisa: as for the democrats, battle lines are being drawn in ohio with the all-important primary just two days away. both candidates spoke during a dinner last night in columbus, trying to sway the undecided. ohio democratic leaders said they want supporters of both hillary clinton and senator sanders to feel like this is their party, and they aimed their message directly at one republican target in particular, donald trump. mrs. clinton: we can criticize and protest mr. trump all we t also show up at the polls. [applause] mr. sanders: this campaign is about ending a corrupt campaign finance system that allows billionairs to buy elections. lisa: other big names in attendance, civil rights leader jesse jackson, who says he remains neutrual and has not made an endorsement. and longtime democrat and clinton supporter jerry springer was also there. donald trump was that the savannah center for a town hall event. he was asked the question about john mccain, not being a war hero. he. >> i think it is important for a lot of veterans in ohio. i knew what you were doing. mr. trump: they are real heroes. lisa: protesters we just as enthusiastic at the trap hall. clashed. >> builds bridges, not walls. karin: two groups of people -- >> build a wall. karin: with two different visions. >> let' s fight for america. karin: both very vocal and passionate about where they stood. >> i' m totally against him and everything he stands for. karin: at one point, trump supporters set off their car headlines are lisa: good morning and welcome back on your monday. checking today' s headlines. a maryland police officer is shot and killed outside the police department building in what officials are calling an unwarranted attack. officials say prince george' s county police officer jacai colson was killed when two suspects opened fire outside the police department' s landover station. police say one of the suspects was also injured in the exchange of gunfire and is listed in stable condition. the second suspect was later arrested after fleeing the scene on foot. no word on a motive behind the shooting. breaking now, an amtrak train has derailed in southwest kansas injuring several people. the train was traveling from los angeles to chicago when it derailed just after midnight. at least five train cars are on their side. amtrak says about 128 passengers and 14 crew members were on board. dozens of vehicles were involved in a series of crashes on a north carolina highway saturday. about 20 people were hurt in wrecks on i-85/i-40. none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. viewers on facebook said the combination of sun and rain on the roads made for blinding conditions. law enforcement officials are still investigating the cause of the crashes. drivers were encouraged to avoid this area for hours as crashes occurred on both sides of the interstate. one person endorsing donald trump this morning is baseball legend pete rose. trump tweeted this picture of a signed baseball from rose. it reads "mr. trump, please make america great again." during trump' today, the man charged with killing a middletown mom is expected back in court. curtis burdette is charged with killing brittany russell last month. russell was shot in her car outside a dayton apartment. her 6-month-old baby was found unharmed in the back seat. the prosecutor has not released a motive for the shooting. family and friends passed out fliers last night, searching for justice for two men murdered on section road weeks apart. 18-year-old charles murph was shot at his house last september. his mother says a woman first knocked on the door. then about an hour later, a man knocked and shot murph in the face when he looked through the blinds. no one has been arrested for the 18-year-old' s murder. then in october, charles flagg was gunned down outside a bar in springfield township. police say two men tried to rob him when he was shot. one man was caught, but another man is still on the loose. >> it' s very, very unfortunate for our family. you're talking about somebody who didn' t really have a chance to really experience life and really an innocent victim of another senseless crime. >> it' s been real hard. it' s been really a struggle for me, and the reason people should say something is because we should not allow the person who did this to continue to still be out here on the street. murph was about to be a student at the university of cincinnati. reminder for drivers to adjust their habits after losing an hour of sleep. wlwt news 5' s kyla woods tells us about the dangers of driving kyla: this morning, many drivers may not be as alert as they travel to work and school in the the sun isn' t expected to rise until about 7:50 this morning. this change can effect people more than they may think. according to the aaa foundation for traffic safety, people who sleep six to seven hours a night are twice as likely to be involved in a crash as those sleeping eight hours or more, while people sleeping less than five hours increase their risk four to five times. the foundation also finds more than 250,000 people fall asleep at the wheel, some for a just a microsecond. some police departments have reported as much as a 10% spring ahead time change. daylight saving time also means an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon, when children, runners, cyclists and others will be out on the streets later. so make sure you make your
