News 19s Sonia Gutierrez attorney today and looked into washingtons background. She joins us now with more. Reporter thats right. We looked into his case and this is what we found. Reporter kelvin washington turned himself in this morning for failure to file tax returns. He was leased on a 15,000 pr bond. His Attorney Says washington is scheduled to appear in court in february. But he says they are planning to take action before then. And he is not ruling out a plea agreement in the case. The department of revenue says he didnt file for 2012, 2013, and 2014. That is 400,000 of income. Washington tells news 19 that right now he is selfemployed. He worked for the department of transportation from 1990 to 2012 as an engineer. If convicted he faces fines up to 10,000 or one year of that is a total of three years. They will not uphold any serious violation of the law or betrayal of the public trust. We will work to remove any incidence of wrong doing. Washington has served as councilman for 7 years. He was chairman of the counsel board from 2012 to 2013.
