outside a home in flat rock prompting two schools to go on lockdown today. it happened at 11:00 a.m. no one was hit. but officers shut down nearby hillendale elementary and flat rock middle schools just as a precaution. those with children in school say that when they heard the they felt that their kids were prepared. >> drills throughout the year. they do everything possible to keep the kids safe. and the kids are safe here at school because of the procedures that the schools have. >> larry: deputies say that they're looking for a black male who is driving a late model lincoln town car. has a vinyl top and a half design on the rear. >> darcel: a chase began in i-40 in deputies in haywood say it all began when they tried to stop billy for speeding. driving without a license and reckless driving to endanger. asheville police are on the lookout for a woman accused of police released these surveillance inches of the suspect. they say she used a cloned credit card. she's believed to be driving a black suv. if you have any idea who she is, call buncombe county crime stoppers at 255-5050. >> larry: one mountain town is looking for an ordinance that would require dogs and cats to be kept indoors when it's really cold outside. ashlea, some are saying that the current animal ordinance falls short. >> ashlea: that's right. it's similar to ordinances in many other area counties and it's very basic. it touches on things like food and water and shelter. but it doesn't mention anything about weather or extreme temperatures. so a member of the town council spoke out at a meeting saying she had concerns about some dogs being left outside. there was discussion and now the in to what it would take to create a law requiring people to keep animals inside when temperatures drop. the local animal shelter here said it would absolutely back an ordinance like that. >> we would like to see something where if it's a below a certain temperature or maybe even some kind of tether law where they can't just be stuck outside. >> ashlea: now some obstacles passing a measure like this are to determine just how cold is too cold. some have hunting dogs that keep their dogs outside all year round. there will likely be an update on this ordinance and whether they'll try and push it through and pass something like it by the end of next month at a budget meeting. around for that. >> larry: the snow has been could cause problems on the roads in the form of pot holes. all that snow and ice melt seeps under the pavement. nc requires by law to fix reported pot holes within two days. workers in the mountains have repaired 86 pot holes within 48 hours. that is a 100% success rate. >> once the snow's gone and we go through these free cycle thaws as night where it cools down and in the day it warms up. it's certainly likely we're going to see more pot holes. our guys fully expect that. >> larry: to report a pot hole, you can use the dot app or call them. you units are outfitted with cameras, printers, scanners and even vision testing equipment. they're able to deliver all the same services that a brick and mortar locations offer. it will be downtown every thursday. >> in polk county we currently have an existing mobile site here but it's on the legacy mobile units, which are the large busses. but the customers have to wait outside. and it's very costly fading. tonight, he tells us why so many memories escape him. >> everyone knew it was a dangerous thing that we were doing. >> john: the unthinkable. it's quite possible chuck has forgotten more about our space program than most of us will ever know. he was in nasa's launch control center when the challenger exploded on live tv. >> you're watching people that you knew very welcome to a horrible end. >> john: chuck worked in public affairs. nasa gave him a medal for his work. >> handling the press after the challenger. >> john: after the moment that made our hearts sink. >> this was not the but i don't know how i could have handled it without her. she keeps me young. >> john: i did ask chuck if losing memories concerns him. he says simply, it's not something he thinks about. of course we it will have a bigger effect on our forecast as we get in to the weekend. this right here is a storm coming on shore. it's going to push this bubble of warmer air out west farther east. we'll enjoy that for the weekend. this trough out east giving us a chance for more snow showers in the high country tonight. light snow effect on those higher elevations. other than that, should be very quiet. we'll see the cold and the wind. yancey, avery, northern portions of mcdowell and burke county, you're on a wind advisory. everybody will have the wind. we just won't have it as strong here in 20% chance of snow in asheville. again, at best flurries tomorrow. our chances of rain will go up by wednesday. i should say, monday. 30% chance. 50% chance of any snow again in the mountains. that's the highest chance for elevations near and along the nothing saturday and sunday. 40% chance of rain returning to the forecast by then. here's the cold front. a weak one moving quickly to the east. in the morning, we'll have snow showers and clouds. by the afternoon, it's all gone. high pressure takes over. we're looking at beautiful weather in to the weekend. around that high pressure, our winds will come from the south and southwest. saturday in to sunday, even in to monday, we'll have mild temperatures well above average. no record setting temperatures but certainly above average by several degrees. clouds will be on the increase. that will eventually spinning far enough to the east. future cast. the future satellite and radar picture of what's to come. there are the snow showers again after midnight in to the morning. best chance for any accumulation will be in the mountains. we'll all notice the wind here throughout the french broad river valley. skies will be by the clear side by the afternoon and evening. rain, not a problem. snow, a little bit of a problem. could get up to an inch in the high peaks. it's going to be less than a dusting for most. 30s over the upstate. 40s tomorrow. it's going to be a chillier day. low 40s, mars hill, asheville, waynesville. temperatures in our southern mountains. temperatures will warm even more in to the weekend. look at those 60s. loving it. saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday. and then we get colder next week. by the end of the week 30s again. temperatures in the upstate pretty mild. low 60s sunday, monday, tuesday. with the rain coming by tuesday. >> larry: now we have other a new reason to look forward to the weekend. >> darcel: there's a new bakery opened in a very familiar spot. >> larry: it's a spin off from rhubarb restaurant in pack square. the building formally housed the hugely successful french broad chocolate shop. >> to have a place in what was always one of my favorite spaces in asheville to be able to, you know, to still have that wonderful life in it and to offer something sort of very casual. >> darcel: the owner also rents the third floor at his restaurant's event venue. specialty items like sweet and savoryy muffins. >> larry: christ school basketball team has won six games in a row now. the one reason why the greenies are playing their best basketball game of the season. next in this week's game changer. in iowa. >> stan: the christ school basketball team starting to find its identity as we wrap up january. first year head coach scott willard. luke notestine caught up with this week's game changer to learn why the greenies are playing so well. >> i think we're coming together as a coaching staff. as a team, i think they know what to expect of me. >> luke: the greenies are shape so we could wear teams down a little bit. >> it makes it more exciting. >> luke: christ school has played a remarkably good schedule especially this season. against anybody on the east coast. we have played tough competition and we took some bruises early on. >> luke: it helped shape the greenies goals for the rest of the season. the next game for christ school will be tonight. and friday night against oak hill academy. i'm luke notestine. >> stan: western carolina is going to play eastern tennessee state at bristol motor speedway. cats and bucs play in the 17th. they're expecting an ncaa record for that. it's still an exciting time for both clubs. they should have something from today's official announcement at 11. their last trip there as a big south member. kevin with a 3 to trim the lead to two. then dogs down two. dillon smith for the tie. it's no good. gets the air ball and puts it in at the buzzer. elijah wilson was just too tough. he had a big night with 23 points.
